Who knows? Chi-Chi's the one who invited him; If she knows how to push his buttons any, she might have promised lots of food, too.

"What friends?" he replies. "I don't fit into any group."
"You're special, Goku," Gohan explains.
"Sometimes... they push me so far I want to explode. I could tear them apart with one hand."
I'm sure this Naruto movie will do great.

I've got to say...I have no faith in any accuracy to the original from this movie. So the only thing I'm really looking forward to seeing now is the fight scenes. I'm curious if they'll look really cool or just corny. I'm hoping cool obviously.

Cool, a script review. Much appreciated.
He daydreams at one point about being in a meadow full of juicy strawberries and Chi-Chi is there and they are happy together.

Since 87Eleven is involved, I don't think you have to worry much about the fights. But we'll see.

Okay, it doesn't sound THAT bad, really, but where is the real Goku? He sure as hell isn't in that quote up there.

And the Dragonballs have Chinese names, don't call them by their romanized Japanese approximations, dammit. Sorry, pet peeve.

My thoughts exactly.

Honestly, the real Goku is more like Luffy than the more emotionally-tortured shounen heroes like Ichigo and Naruto.

I'd go so far as to say Goku and Luffy are like non-related cousins.

Surely there'd be at least one or two other people at school who'd like Goku enough to hang out and form a motley crew with him. I realize the high school world is ridiculously small and thus even the tiniest things are magnified to superficial levels that are completely laughable from a college student's perspective, but I can't imagine Goku being hit with the scarlet letter.

Well, I can, but with how strong the guy is, surely he'd fit in with the jocks; at least until the others started hitting on girls and Goku'd be all confused and maybe attempt to flirt not really knowing what or why he'd be doing it and thus lead to awkward moments that wouldn't be spoken of again.

*Is rambling* >_<

*Waits for Part 2 to appear*.

My one complaint I believe--and this is solely based on my trying hard not to view this as a Dragonball film--is but based on that I'm viewing this as a Dragonball film: I dislike the part about his complaining about having friends, however IN CONTEXT it would make sense that he'd be jealous of seeing people around him at school having friends.

*Kaboom opens his mouth to say something positive and happy about my admittance*

At least we don't have what was previously rumored, that Goku would belong to a group of unpopular kids like Weaver.

That is true.

I agree. :D

I'd like to see Goku getting along with folks, but high schools just aren't very kind to folks like him. He doesn't fit in with the jocks, because jocks in movies are jerks, and Goku doesn't seem to be a jerk (at least, he doesn't intend to be). Goku's a misfit, so he gets along best with other misfits.

That's very true. Being a bit of a loner is better than being clumped into some "unpopular kids" clique.

Y'ask me, so far Movie-Goku's coming across in school fairly similar to how Gohan did; just not as smart.

That little piece of dialouge doesn't bug me at all up until "I can tear them apart with one hand." Hm...Ditching his grandfather for some ass talking about how he would like to rip apart his peers. Maybe this Goku DIDN'T hit his head.

Yeah, but Gohan at least kind of semi-melded into Videl's mini-clique of her, Erasa, an Sharpner.

(Even though Sharpner was kind of against Gohan because he'd be potentially a rival.)

I dunno, either way it sounds awful painful of a thing to put Goku through.

Come back three hours after the DVD released, I'll have a scene of the Karate Kid uploaded with Chatwin digitally pasted in beating the crap out of Johnny.

No, really.

Eh, Gohan got along fairly well after he had demonstrated his powers in the baseball class. Well, until Toei decided to make Sharpner into a massive dick, at least, but that hardly counts (plus filler-Sharpner was funny, and he never did anything worthy of notice in the manga anyway). The kind of "Wah, I don't have friends" crap Chatku is spouting here would never ever find it's way into Gohan's mouth.

In context, it breaks his character even more. Goku is the way he is because he lived alone in the mountains most of his childhood, having never seen another human being before Bulma.

Chatku, on the other hand, went through the grades necessary to get to a senior class, (edit: and for that matter, was raised fully to adulthood with a parent figure in his life) so why is he still socially retarded? Like it's been said here before, Goku is personable. If the context is that Goku was raised around people in a classroom, I don't know why he'd be an 'outcast'.
If he didn't go through the grades, then it doesn't make sense he'd be in the class at all.
Ah, the problems one runs into when a character is taken completely out of context...

"With great power comes great responsibility".....

That will probably be the main moral of the story in the film.
I can certainly see that, and the conversation between Goku and Gohan about Goku's not fitting in is essentially the same talk Jonathan Kent gives to Clark in Superman (1978). As long as they're Americanizing Dragon Ball, I suppose an additional parallel between Goku and Superman is cool.

I'd need a better detailed version of Chatku's backstory concerning school to diagnose how he got to this point.

Was there one incident that caused him to be avoided like the plague (like there being a class trip to a port city where Goku eats a gigantic amount of fish and thus freaks everyone out) or was it a lot of small bumps leading up to this ("Ooh, his hair defies physics, he's weird." "He's got a tail, he's weird." "That guy can lift cars and tanks and submarines, he's weird.") Not to mentinon the pat-pat. I can see Goku getting d-listed for attempting the pat-pat in school.

Giving someone the full-on stink-eye and sending them into the corners of academic hell is something you see far more often in middle schools than high schools.

People are generally nicer in high school than they are in middle.

I'm not quite sure what to think of that; if what Jappo's telling us is true, then Goku's not very smart.

Honestly, nothing in this part of the script has bothered me. I can see that the characters and setting isn't the same as the manga, but I wasn't really expecting them to be. So long as the film is entertaining I'll be pleased, and seeing ki mentioned right away was pretty cool in my opinion.

Edit: It also makes some sense that Chi-chi would know about it, considering who her father is.

Also, what makes anyone socially retarded? There isn't always a clean explanation. You'd think the fact that he's a super strong alien or whatever would be enough to make him at least feel like he doesn't belong. It might not be that everyone else excludes him, but that he excludes himself.

And if his life is mostly training with Gohan, there probably isn't anyone at school that he shares interests with.
