Didn’t I address that like, immediately after the part you quoted?

I’m guessing you didn’t hear about the Wal-Mart incident, then? Though neither of these things have anything to do with Broli…

He actually had dialogue to him and some plot points.
The idea behind him in that movie was interesting.

The others movies though I could live without.
Movie 10 Brolli was all "WAAAAAAAUGH KAKARROTTO!!" whereas Movie 11 Brolli was just "WAAAAAAAAAAUGH!".
I agree.

I'm not so much into the Hulk thing... so I may not be his biggest fan, but he was cool in movie 8 - I think he looks best in base form. Movie 11 just ruined him.
Just Saiyan...

I don't like Broli because Tullece was a far better Saiya-jin villain.

When I think of Broli I think of wasted potential, a good concept with poor execution, despite having a pretty well fleshed out backstory for a movie villain, it doesn't prevent him from being boring and ultimately uncompelling as a character.

Just pretend that it was Dragon World's version of Black Friday. Then it'll look completely accurate.

I actually wouldn't have minded three Tullece movies.

From our point-of-view it would've been great, but for Japanese fans it probably would've gotten old quickly since later on Goku had come to accept and have some pride in his Saiyan heritage, where Tullece was the, "What if Goku were evil," kind of character.

Nay, then we'd be complaining about how there were too many Tullece movies.

I don't think so. I don't mind that Broly has three movies, by itself. In fact, despite the hate it gets, his third film is my favorite of the set. What I don't like is that he is the "boring movie villain", AND we have to deal with that for three movies.

I mostly enjoy the first four Z movies. I like them a lot. It's from 5 onwards that I start to really dislike the movies.

What is really different between them all other than the art styles?
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

I kind of dislike all movie-only Saiyajin... I just don't particularly like them for some reason... I do love Tarble, though. :D

Well, I'm pretty sure Acid_Reign pretty much summed up everything for why it's understandable that people would like Broli, but I figured I'd give my two cents:

[quote="Ducard"]In addition to the whole Hulk thing, Broly strikes me as a DBZ version of 90's Venom/Eddie Brock. You have a large unstoppable monster with a grin and blank eyes, unrelentlessly pursuing smaller foes. Design-wise he carries much of the same appeal as Venom. It's... kind of a 90's thing./quote]
After reading up on Venom's story as well as how they carried his character out in Spectacular Spider-Man (the TV show) and Ultimate Spider-Man, I really do agree with this. Like Broli, he had an interesting backstory, but I wouldn't call it spectacular or anything (pun so intended). Back when American comics were all the rage, it seemed like I couldn't turn a corner without seeing someone with the black suit spider t-shirt. At the time, I was completely unaware of Spider-Man's whole black suit thing and immediately just connected it with Venom. Why? I dunno, maybe there's just something about hulking masses that makes the kiddies swoon. Or maybe it is just a nineties thing in general.

It was definitely a '90s thing. Remember when Robin was a hulking mass?

I just came to the shocking realization that Broly is basically Super Sayajin Nappa. Look:

- Both are dumb, even for Sayajins. Although that kind of goes without saying.

- They both are durable, therefore.....

- ..... Both take all attacks head-on, not even attempting to dodge or block. This sounds okay on paper, however.....

- .... This is ultimately their weakness. Broly gets "killed" twice because of his inability to dodged or even really block the Bros. Kamehameha and "Super Energy Goku's" punch. Nappa is harder to explain, but he to is similar to Broly in this manner. If Vegeta didn't tell him to duck the Keinzan, Nappa would've died. Likewise, if Gohan didn't act like a pansy, the Piccolo-Kurrin-Gohan blast would've severely messed him.

- Both beat the crap out of the Z Warriors, until something involving Goku truly stops them (Goku's Kaioken and "Super Energy Goku's" punch)

- Both need a figure of guidance in the form of a another, much, much more intelligent Sayajins, Paragus and Vegeta. True, Paragus was the weak one, while Vegeta was the strong one, but they are both pretty similar, because they establish the setting. If Pargus didn't make "New Vegeta," Broly wouldn't find Goku, and if Vegeta didn't come to Earth, Nappa wouldn't have killed nearly all of the Z Warriors.

- Both are muscle-bound hulks. Although, again, that kind of goes without saying.

- Both have no patience, like, at all.

- Both love to just brutally fight and kill, more so than Vegeta (who is basically the only example I can use here).

- Gohan gets his ass saved by Piccolo.

- On a similar note, Gohan proves to be about as useful as whipped cream in both of these fights.

- The fight in both cases, is a 5 (excluding Chatzou and Yamcha in Nappa's case) on 1.

- The main focus seems to be Goku; I.E in the Nappa fight it was "CAN GOKU MAKE IT IN TIME?" while the other scenario is "CAN GOKU BEAT BROLY?"

- The powers are pretty balanced (Tien, Kurrin, Gohan and Piccolo are all about equal, with Piccolo taking the lead and with Vegeta, Trunks, Gohan, Piccolo and Goku being pretty equal, with Goku taking the lead)

That's a pretty big amount of similarities. What do you say?

And that just makes TeamFourStar's Halloween Special that much more amusing; what with Nappa's "costume".

Exactly. That scene was awesome. TeamFourStar rocks!

But that's kind of off-topic. Then again, so is Nappa-Broly comparison, but I think this is a crucial point people need to understand.

Isn't it mainly the casual American fan that have fangasms over Broly? I mean, those Broly AMV's on YT and those annoying "Broly>>>>>>SSJ2" nonsense are just from people in the US...cause he's so hArDcOrE, and his powa is maximum!!

Then why did Toei produce 2 more Broly films?

I think that that is due to Toei's focusing on a minority fan group. The inclusion of Broly as one of the prize figures for buying the Dragon Box The Movies individual discs is kind of proof of their lack of an more broad and general awareness and knowledge, in my opinion.

So yeah, it does pretty much prove that the US is not the only country that has hardcore Broly fans, but I think it is bigger proof that Toei doesn't always look left and right, just straight ahead.
