DBZ FUNimation Blu-rays being worked on?
Wait, they're COMPLAINING? lolwut!
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
One of the funniest things I've read this year so far.SSJ Helldog wrote: You can't crop a film master from the top and bottom. They made a new print from the originals. It might even be entirely digital.
Yes... 'predicted' 'coughs and chokes'Son Wukong wrote:Hehe, if it's true then Mike did a helluva prediction on the podcast. I myself don't/would't think they'd be bringing it out on Blu-ray this year or even announce that they are working on it.

IIRC, they actually only scanned the middle of the frame, so while the film is still 4:3 of course, their digital masters are widescreen-only. Rescanning is very, very expensive, and most likely will not happen until there’s actual incentive to do so—Blu-ray is the future, ya know… and these nine-year-old kids can’t tell the difference.Brad Redfield wrote:They cropped their HD masters that were created for the season sets, not the actual film masters. Its entirely possible for them to do a full screen release.
EDIT: Third time isn't the charm.

Despite that I'm still holding out for it because I'm worried the moment I buy Dragon Boxes or R2s FUNi will announce they've acquired the rights to DBox footage and I'll have wasted my money. I'd honestly be happy with just uncropped footage that isn't "remastered" though.MajinVejitaXV wrote:YesChuquita wrote:Is it too much to hope for that they'd have the DBox footage this time?

I'm so close to owning the entire series in 4:3 (everything but the gap between the UUE's and the Ginyu discs), I know I will have to pick up the Dragonbox singles, but the Australian dollar is so pissweak right now that unless there's an awesome sale (like on the DB singles) I really can't justify that price on a handful of episodes.Taku128 wrote:I'd honestly be happy with just uncropped footage that isn't "remastered" though.

They're never going to get the DBOX, because you're average DB fan doesn't care. That's what happens when you have big popularity.
Seriously, they could digitally add a bunch of bananas in the center of the screen and people would still buy their sets.

Hmm, funny you should mention that. I recently went back to my old photobucket account (I lost the password about a year ago and decided to get a new one now). And I found this...Hm...at least if it hits Blu-ray, people will stop hiding behind the "lawl is bad downscale" excuse for the "Vegeta Bukkake Syndrome (VBS)."

Back on topic:
Even though I'm nearing my completion of my Season Set collection, I wouldn't be mad if Funi put out a far BETTER set.
I'd wait for them, just like I waited for $20 per set on the Season Sets before I started buying them(since that's the the point where cost matches the benefit for me).
My minimum requirements for a Dragon Ball video are:
-Uncut and uncensored
-Original Japanese audio
-Competent subtitles
-Japanese title cards
-"Watchable", picture quality-wise. I don't think there's a single Dragon Ball DVD in existence that does not match or exceed my definition of the world I'm not picky in this regard.
-Cost has to not be stupid. I'm looking at you, original MSRP of Funi's singles.
