Haven't "collectibles" have become a more-or-less worthless market? There's no real money to be made, right? Unless we're talking stuff like a Hank Aaron mint condition rookie card (I think the best I have is a Barry Bonds rookie card)...

The reason I keep things like DBZ figures in their packaging is... well... I'm not seriously going to play with them (in the sort of bang-zoom-crash-yeeeeaaah! way I did when I was five), and so keeping them in their packaging allows me to do things like potentially prop them up in a nice linear display at some point in the future. The packaging provides some extra nice color, and showcases a sort of "time capsule" aspect to it (especially in the case of things like Irwin re-releases of the Japanese Super Battle Collection figures, which had already been out for something like a decade prior). It's nice to compare the packaging across time and countries.

I may not "enjoy" them in the same way I would if I was a little kid, but there's some "enjoyment" to be had in sitting back in a chair and panning your gaze around a room to see them all. I don't have anything like this yet, but the place we're bidding on has a nice finished basement that would work well... ^_~

Loose figures (and "toys" that came in minimal packaging) are indeed "out" of this original packaging and set up in little cubbies. I may not play with them, but sometimes the cats do :P.

Figures look pretty cool, I'll have to see them in person before I decide wether or not they're purchase worthy though.

I do have a couple issues with them:

1) They don't look very posable (I've been spoiled by the awesome articulation of "Marvel Legends" figures).

2) The build a figures should be bigger in my opinion. I mean come on, Porunga's head is almost the same size as Goku's :? . I'm not expecting them to be gigantic fully in scale things, but they could at least be twice as big as the regular figures (again, spoiled by Marvel Legends :P ).

Yeah, you'd have to be some sort of completely immature dope to do stuff like that... Right...

I think we've forfeited any semblance of maturity the minute we decided to post in a forum soley dedicated to a children's comic and its cartoon adaptation.

You'd be surprised. Marvel Legends figures like Deadpool and Juggernaut often make 5 times their original worth on eBay. They were sold for $8 originally and end up going for $40 or more.

It's much better to pose them though outside of the packets. Figures don't actually ever look as good in packing - the "clear" plastic actually muddied and dullens their appearance considerably.

I mean, would you leave a statue in it's packaging because you can't "Play" with it? Probably not. The great thing about action figures is that you get to alter their poses too, so you don't have to always have the same display.

"Maturity" is fucking stupid anyway. What people call maturity is just conservative social values masquerading as life wisdom.

I mean look at the kind of things people consider immature, people with different hair colours, students that protest things, people with interests like toy collecting that lie outside of the mainstream. "Maturity" is a tool to turn everyone into the same grey Suit.

Unfortunately I mostly lost the ability to "Play" with my toys, but if I want to in my own house, I'm damn well do it.

Some of my figures have "yellowed" over time because of there exposure to the air, dust and whatever else that flies around.

That's pretty easy to fix, I think. You leave it in some kind of solution, can't remember what.

Don't worry you're not alone, though in my case its >usually< Transformers, I stil ldo silly little mini events with my toys every now and then.

My last major one involved Serpentor attacking GI Joe headquarters to free Cobra Commander because he owed him a buck fifty, which was unfortuantly gone since Duke stole it from Cobra Commander and spent it in the pepsi vending machine, and it all ended with a pepsi Optimus Prime breaking up the fight for a "fanta" style dance/song.

So uh yeah, I still play with my toys too. xD

I think that there's a bit of a misconception, that if your keeping your figures in the packaging, the only possibly reason is to preserves some arbitrary market value... I admit, there are one or two things in my collection where this is the case, but for the most part - I truly adore packaging. My father was in advertising, and I myself am an artist, and one of the most striking things about a lot of Dragonball toys - especially the older Japanese toys is the incredible packing designs. This old Korean figure is a perfect example:

I don't really 'play' with my figures either, but I do display them. And as I always say 'Display is a form of play'

There's far to much shame in the toy collecting world - everyone always trying to give some explanation as to why they still enjoy something clearly made for people not yet old enough to cross the street by themselves.... Personally, I'm not into begrudging other collectors their way of 'playing' with their figures. Whether your making videos about them, displaying them, keeping them in their packaging, or using them to reenact the show/your own private sexual fantasies (j/k: P) is still all still a form of play, and I think a necessary way for some adults to express themselves these days.

All the best,
Oldphan

You mean it's not normal to play with toys in the bath until the age of 14? :(

But no, I don't play with them anymore...

Generally, if I'm able to, I will keep the packaging somewhere, and keep it nice in case I want to store them later on.

Screw keeping them in the packaging, I rip that shit out! :P

I mostly collect toys for display although once in awhile I'll use them for reference when I'm drawing or something.

As for Bandai's new stuff: I bought a Freeza that was on clearance at Wal-Mart and wasn't too impressed. I think the best thing about these figures is that they're almost to scale with the Hybrid figures.

Well said, well said. I feel bad for people who have to go out of their way to act mature like they're trying to convince themselves rather than others and who can't enjoy the simple things in life.

I'm not a big collector, but I do grab certain things that seem cool. Sometimes I open them and leave them on display, other times I just display them in their boxes. And I play with them now and then too. :P

Well, the closest to playing with toys that I have done recently, which was probably like, 8-10 years ago was make a stop motion DBZ video, where I used the Super Battle Collection figures. It involved Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and Trunks turning SSJ and then fighting Cell. After Cell was defeated he went to hell where I had a bunch of old spawn and resident evil figures.

Hmm, I found these on Ebay. They are like an American\updated version of the "Super Battle Collection"...

Image

But why so much?

Vegeta: http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-DRAGONBALL-Z-S ... 240%3A1318

Goku: http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-DRAGONBALL-Z-G ... 634.c0.m14

I hope they make more for this line.
