I was actually first collecting the Season 1 and 2 VHS tapes while they were airing. Then bought the uncut tapes of the first three movies (with Tree of Might coming before World's Strongest, oddly enough).

When DVD came around, my first purchase was World's Strongest. And it was the very first releases as it came in a boxy shell cover, with a CD jewel case holding the disc itself and a list of chapters. If I can find it in one of my boxes, I'll dig around for it and grab a pic. I bought the other two movies soon after.

Then when the FUNi sets came out, I was still in between with VHS as my only DVD player at the time was the computer at my dad's house. So I went through FUNi's VHS sets until the introduction of #17 and #18. That's when I swapped to DVD and got this:

The last DB related VHS tapes I ever got were Mystical Adventure and the promotional tape Burger King sent out for free involving the driver's license episode and the training for the arrival of the Artificial Humans (although it was edited).

Ah first DVD, it was sometime in '01, I got Freeza - Super Saiyan Goku.
That's still one of my favorites, even though I can't find it, and I got Season 3.

I paid $70 for a used copy of the Pioneer "Saiyan Conflict" collection at Sam Goody. If memory serves correctly, that was in 2003. I stayed up that entire night to watch it in one sitting, a very fond memory.

The first VHS I got was an (edited?) FUNi dub of when Vegeta first turned Super Saiyan. I had never seen those episodes before (I was only up to Furiza) and I nearly crapped myself when he transformed.

This is the very first DVD I purchased, and the second DragonBall media I purchased. It was the first time I had seen Uncut Dragonball(Besides 30 second clips online that were crappy quality) in original Japanese. That, and it was the last episodes of GT! I had never seen GT before and had only read summaries of it online at places like Dragonball Unlimited. (Cell and Furiza come back from Hell! That's freaking awesome!...what a dissapointment.)

Anywhoo, loved it. Got me into the original Japanese because I loved DAN DAN with a passion.

Is that the one where the first tape contained the first four episodes of the series in marathon play?

That was a great tape!

First VHS ever was Arrival. It even had the offer (which I gladly took up) for the free Goku figure that took forever to arrive. Dead Zone was among the first three DVDs I received for Christmas 2000 with my first DVD player; it was the cardboard sleeve with jewel case edition, for the record. First DVD purchase made by me: Ginyu, Double Cross. It was such a horrible DVD, looking back on it.

I don't remember what my first DVD was, but my first VHS was Curse of The Blood Rubies. It was a new release then. Now I feel old...

Oh, man! I remember those! My brother and I got a couple. Good times. I remember his first Dragon Ball DVD, but I'll let him post it if he sees fit.

First Fansub VHS: DBZ episodes 95-106 (two tapes), 1996(?)
Ah, fansub tapes... how I don't miss them at all. Though, I did love the Japanese commercials. The eye drop ones were great, as were all of the ones for the Pringles-esque chips (if you've seen them, you know why). Maybe I do miss them...

I'm one of those weirdos that got into the series through the video games, but because I wanted to buy the series in order, I decided to wait until every episode was out on DVD. As such, I didn't buy any DVDs of the series until the last Z movie came out in America, at which point I started buying the movies. This isn't my first DB DVD though. When Budokai 2 came out I bought the strategy guide for it (I was eleven, wasn't smart enough to just use the internet), which came with a DVD that had an episode of GT on it and some trailers for other FUNimation shows. It was the episode where Goku fights Freeza and Cell in hell. I might still have it somewhere, not sure.

Yes, and I quite agree. It's still the first item I let people who say they want to get into DB borrow.

I can't think of any better way to get into the uncut series than seeing Vegeta skewered on a huge spike. :P

Well, I can think of a few better ways, but it's still pretty good!

Yes, indeed. :D

But how about watching DAN DAN for the first time and seeing Kid Goku burst out of that lake in his birthday suit. I'd never seen animated nudity before, and it was something. However, I still remember how poorly it was drawn. His dragonballs were nothing but a small circle with a "u" in the middle.

Well, they kind of HAVE to be poorly drawn, any more detail could have landed Toei in a spot of bother...

You sound kinda disappointed...

Well, the first VHS tape I got was The Worlds Strongest Dubbed Uncut Pioneer version. Followed by the last two tapes of the Saiyan Conflict. This was back in 98 I think.

Nah, I was just pointing that out. But then again, it does make sense that a little more detail would have gotten some bad press.

The first (and only) Dragon Ball DVD I own is the original FUNimation/Pioneer release of The Tree of Might. I think I bought it sometime in 2000.

Dragonball Z: Bojack Unbound.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

The first Dragon Ball DVD I ever bought was the first Ultimate Uncut volume. Yes, I was a fan of the series before that, albeit a dub fan watching it on TV. However I wasn't interested in purchasing the series until they started releasing it from the beginning.

Though with all the money I wasted on singles after that, I should have just waited a little longer for the season sets.

My very first DBZ DVD was the original Pioneer Dead Zone DVD, with cardboard sleeve and jewel case. I bought it at Camelot Music (it wasnt FYE or FYI or whatever it is) in December of 99. That movie was 40 bucks I think, but it was worth it.

The first DBZ DVD I got was the Bardock special. Love that thing and still have it.
