I always figured JKwok44 was "first gen"... technically, I guess he'd be something like 1.5 gen. The bottom of his site says that the page was created January 17, 1997 (a full year before me). Not quite sure when all the true first-gen sites started, but I'm fairly sure many were before that (or there-abouts).
As for "Usagi North," a basic Google search tells me they were around during the Curtis Hoffman years translating stuff... no idea who they are, specifically, though... I actually hadn't heard of them, before. Maybe Daimao knows... ?

I just know they are/were a translating outfit. I don't even know if they were fansubbers or not. It was a long time ago, and I was never into the fansubbing scene as such (watching my stuff raw like I do, er, did).
I'm not even sure if "Usagi North" wasn't just someone's nick, for that matter. Wish I could help more.

Yeah, I came across some DBZ movie 10 script he/she/they did, but there's no indication of whether or not they actually subtitled it, or anything... possibly just provided translations to other groups.

Ok, because correct me if I am wrong or not, but is that not who was sourced by Curtis on TSOtE? I always wondered who/what that was because if I owe people like Curtis my life, then that individual/group...
And by the way, Wuken`s page was super-duper but I just wish he would have completed that damn trivia contest.
My favorite site was probably Kaioshins`. What an amazing site that was and for so many reasons. I have so many happy memories of using the `Internet` to see what was happening not just with DB but in his life. I remember a newspaper clipping of him going to see the Star Wars remake

Yeah, that's what he called it! I keep just calling it "SuperPope," since that's what it turned into.... but yeah, Kaioshin's. I remember the dub episode guide he was starting up, and only got.. like.. 4 episodes into
. I remember that newspaper clipping, too!
Wow, no-one will know what the Hell we're talking about.

Yes, I remember his dub guide as well. In fact, that`s the first time I noticed there were...differences... So for better or for worse, David created me.
I also won one of his auctions....which was bad-ass... but my parents were pissed because it was online and on the way back from the movie Face/Off (shock from audience) we had a huge argument.
Ah Dragon Ball, bringer of today`s manga, destroyer of worlds.

I always considered Dr. Gero's Laboratory first gen. If I can remember spending hours reading through / downloading stuff on the site as a young, enthusiastic fanboy... it's usually first-gen

I believe Usagi North was either part of or heavily affiliated with the fansubbing group Anime Crisis, way back in the day around 1996 or so. Way back before the DBZ fansub scene really exploded and tapes were much rarer and the majority wasn't available subbed yet, Las Vegas based group Anime Crisis promised the internet that they would soon release the majority of the Buu saga and that they were taking preorders for the in about 10-15 tapes at around $6 or $7 each. People were only allowed to order the entire series at once, promised they'd recieve it all as soon as it was finished. Supposedly about 100 people or so made the huge "preorder". After many delays, excuses of being sick and/or relatives being sick and possibly dying, the group mostly disappeared from the net without a trace. People were angry for awhile, but none of them were quite ninja enough to do something about it. Eventually everyone just forgot and moved on. Only a couple movies subtitled by the group directly ever actually leaked out onto the net. No one's really sure whether or not the group actually subtitled all the episodes or not.
THE END.
And no, I have no idea what caused all that bad bad drama between all the site owners way back in the past
I think being angry was just the cool thing to do back then.

Mike and I thought of another old site in the car today: Saiyan Pride! Looking back on that title, it sounds a title for a newbie site or something. But I still have old print outs (yes, print outs. I was so obsessed, I printed out pages from websites!!) from Ed Gordon's site back in the day.
I should try to find those print outs so I can at least figure out a date for that site's existance.

Do you mean SzR, or a different site? ...And furthermore, is the current "SaiyanZ Rage" the same site as it was in years past? That's always bugged me... it used to seem so professional, but these days it feels like it's run by a bunch o' n00bs.Meri wrote:Mike and I thought of another old site in the car today: Saiyan Z Rage!
EDIT: Now it seems it's gone offline. *shrug* Eh... probably for the best, anyway...

Not that site. Ed Gorgen's Saiyan Pride (or was it Saiyan's Pride?). Either way.. "The Girlfriend" is wrong
.
As for that other site... I've heard people mention it, but I don't think I've ever even visited it. What the Hell is it? Sounds like a name I bitched about in that website editorial I wrote...

Saiyanz Rage is supposed to be some kind of important NEWZ site, though most of the news that comes from them seems to be either made up, based on rumors that started on forums, or something that was already reported somewhere better. I think it used to be a bit more credible a few years ago, and run by someone else. But now, definitely noobish, like Julian said.
There are so many newbie sites with those names that I have NO clue what you're all talking about.

THANK YOU! Michigan eh? Have you ever studied at JCMU?
