Well, I suppose my opinion is rather biased after the cruddy adapted stuff Blue Water did on the opening and first ending. With how accurate the lyrics are and how I think the singing tone is even closely similar to Field of View's, awesome is the word I'm going with. I didn't think the singing was so flat as to ruin the experience, as said, this Justin sounds like he nailed a similar-enough tone to keep the spirit of the song. Now that you bring it up though, there is a MIDI type feel to the music which I'd caught on to in Vic's opening, which (similar to my question on the last bit of footage in the second opening) makes me wonder why FUNi didn't just license instrumental versions from the CD releases.
MagicBox wrote:Yeah, it looks pretty bad. It looks the same on the Japanese version of the old singles too. FUNi probably got it from there. Personally, even though it looks like crap, I'm still surprised FUNi actually noticed that the opening changed slightly.
Huh, though they didn't have a textless version of the second opening on any of the original singles, right? So they must've gotten it from the Japanese version of one of the openings and painted out the Kanji.

Actually, WANDS did the 4th ending theme, though I'm sure you probably already knew that. :P

Hell, Toei didn't even give us Dragon Box owners creditless versions of the second, third or fourth endings. :\

Trust me, the work on the fourth ending is at least passable, for he pronuces all the words correctly unlike with Shissou (Ouran's ED). IMO, it is the worst out of the five dubbed because it doesn't have much to make it stand out (the singing like you said).

My order of good to bad:
1 - Dan Dan
2 - Blue Velvet
3 - Don't you see
4 - You're Not Alone
5 - Machine Gun

Looking forward to mixing Blue Velvet with the original backing track because the singer does a really good job of sounding similar to/like the original :)

So are there going to be creditless versions of endings 2-4 and opening 2 on the second season set or will it be the first opening and ending again?

Huh. New endings aren't bad, but I've got to say, I was pretty disappointed overall with how they turned out. They seem a lot more empty than their Japanese counterparts; and, while the singing is pretty spot-on, the instrumentals are extremely poor and leave much to be desired.

For anyone willing to make those hybrid versions (Tsukento? :)), I'd love to hear how these particular dubs turn out. Maybe it'll be instantly redeeming. :D

Considering the editing that was discovered that FUNi had to do for their credits, it doesn't seem likely there will be creditless versions.

Dragon Box owners didn't get creditless versions of those, either.

Just watched these endings. Machine Gun was good, Blue Velvet not so good. The instrumentals for Blue were good, sadly the singing was just jarring. Was it Stephanie Nadolny singing, I really couldn't tell. You are Not Alone and Don't you see were better.

I prefer the other three songs. They were actually pretty good. And Kudos to FUNImation on creating their own credit-less outro's.

It is a shame there was not credit-less outros for Blue or Machine Gun on the Dragon Box. But, eh, at least we got the music to them in stereo.

Wait. What exactly does Korin say in the dubbed ending?

I can't make it out.

Is that a pleasant odor? I smell fish... (Uh, god damnit FUNimation...) Normally I don't mind their line edits, but...

I was actually really disappointed in Blue Velvet, that song lost all of it's charm in translation.

I find "'I'M GOKU.' 'HE'S GOKU.'" a bit more "ugh" deserving. Do Goku and Popo actually say that in the original dub scene? It's so redundant.

It's too bad these will never get full versions, but I can't wait until someone decides to rip Blue Velvet's audio. And I agree with most about Machine Gun's singer sounding off a bit.

I know, I actually just laughed at that. I was thinking, what was the point of repeating what Goku said.

Maybe they couldn't think of anything, which is weird, as FUNi's writers are brimming with talent.

I could imagine him as Bart Simpson, for some reason... "Don't give birth to a cow dude, Eat the shorts I am wearing."

There's just more and more evidence for why we don't watch the dub 'round here...

It was very cool to have Dan Dan in the dub, good way to end the series.

I just watched the ending, and while it's nice to have DAN DAN, it's another typical case of the dub never shutting the fuck up, it completely killed the nostalgic bitter-sweet feeling I normally get from that ending.

That said, it's a hell of a lot better than the original dub track.

GT's fourth ending is my favorite and I was let down by the singing. Blue Velvet was disappointing as well, the music was off. These ending just didn't have the "WOW" factor that Dan Dan and the first two endings did. I guess I set my expectations too high after hearing the first set's songs...

I knew there was something off about the fourth ending... Thanks for pointing that out, it was bugging me! But was that really necessary? Why not just use the Japanese video for the ending!?

Because foreign characters will scar the children for life.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
