I’m not sure. According to her Wikipedia page, she started out as a singer and moved on to acting, but to date she’s really only done a little of both. She did two records back in ’07 and a small handful of TV/Movies, the only role of which I’ve actually seen being the daughter in Mystic River, but it wasn’t that big. Makes me wonder if DBE will bring her more into the public eye.jda95 wrote:I had heard. Is she mainly a singer or actor?

After watching the trailer again, I'm really seeing how distinctive the movie looks.
I see it possibly becoming a cult classic in a decade or so.

It was written for all. Kids, Teens and Adults alike. Remember Adults in Japan also like anime.Acid_Reign wrote:I’m sorry but that’s just wrong; you’re looking at it from a culturally-biased standpoint. “Perversion” is taken more lightly in Japan than it is in the US. Dragon Ball was always intended for children. If adults can enjoy it, that’s their prerogative, but they certainly weren’t the target demographic.Fushar wrote:See my point?. Maybe in the USA it was targeted for kids, but not in the original series.

I think this is a misconception. There are adults in Japan who like anime. Anyone can like anime. But it's aimed at a younger audience and making it a big part of your life after a certain age is still seen as strange or childish a lot of the time.Fushar wrote:Remember Adults in Japan also like anime.

Exactly. There’s a reason the word “otaku” exists in Japanese culture.Bussani wrote:I think this is a misconception. There are adults in Japan who like anime. Anyone can like anime. I have to call a small part of this out. All anime isn't aimed at a younger audience. For every anime out there like "Dragonball" or "Naruto" there's an anime like "Monster" or "Gantz". Anime is just like any other form of entertainment. Anime certainly isn't an adults only club just as it isn't only made solely for the entertainment of children.Bussani wrote:I think this is a misconception. There are adults in Japan who like anime. You also have to remember that an "otaku" is a complete shut in that compulsively watches nothing but anime, and spends any other time they have amassing more anime. I think that these people are considered freaks by any culture.Acid_Reign wrote:Exactly. There’s a reason the word “otaku” exists in Japanese culture.

Yes. But anime is placed into different genres based on the demographic (but they often still get plenty of viewers from outside it). Monster and Gantz are both Seinen (targeted towards adult men) shows.mrkaizoku wrote:I have to call a small part of this out. All anime isn't aimed at a younger audience. Or rather, the definition of "suitable for kids".Bussani wrote:Dragon Ball was written for kids. The definition of 'kids' is just a little different in Japan.
Sorry, Fushar, but Dragon Ball definitely is a manga/show for kids.
You can be an otaku without being a hikikomori, and there are all sorts of otaku who care for vastly different things, not just animation.mrkaizoku wrote:You also have to remember that an "otaku" is a complete shut in that compulsively watches nothing but anime, and spends any other time they have amassing more anime.
I'd say adult manga readers are far less ostracized than adult anime watchers.jda95 wrote:anime is placed into different genres based on the demographic (but they often still get plenty of viewers from outside it). Monster and Gantz are both Seinen (targeted towards adult men) shows.
(which is probably one of the reasons why there's a lot less "seinen anime" than seinen manga)
Gantz is a crazy action sci-fi manga that worships Son Goku and Kenshiro and glamorizes guts and gore. As good a manga as it is and as 'adult' as the themes may be, and as many adults actually enjoy it, it's still primarily for kids and horny violence-loving teenage school boys.mrkaizoku wrote:I have to call a small part of this out. Absolutely not. "Gantz" is published in this magazine. Young Jump is a Seinen weekly magazine. "Gantz" definitely isn't primarily for kids. Also, if it were intended for children it would most likely contain Furigana. "Gantz" only contains Furigana on people's names and the occasional obscure Kanji.Bussani wrote:Gantz is a crazy action sci-fi manga that worships Son Goku and Kenshiro and glamorizes guts and gore. "Dragonball" on the other hand is made for young boys. Hence it being published in Shonen Jump magazine.
