Totally just throwing this out there; would it be crazy to make an assumption that this little project will simply act as a template for a possible total re-animated version of the series in the near future?

You know, Funimation seems to have been moving away from DVD singles with 3-4 episodes each on them and going toward box releases. Maybe we can get this whole thing in 4 releases?

That's what I thought. ^^

I might be the pessimistic kind, but I'd say the opposite. The fact they're actually remastering and re-editing the existing series tells me there's no hope for any remake in the foreseeable future.
Or it would be quite the costly and time-consuming draft. A draft that might even steal a bit of the remake's thunder.

Or just one big fat set, with some sort of spiffy label smacked on it alongside the 'Dragonball Z' logo. It'd help to avoid confusion amongst fans making purchases I suppose.

HD Dragonball ... no filler ... widescreen ... this will be awesome.

I would love it if it was re-animated, but alas, we can't have everything we wanted. It would be amazing to have it animated like that IQ Mirror Mistake 7 segment.

Nevertheless, I am more than looking forward to it.

EDIT: Imagine how FUNi are going to market this. "REALLY THIS TIME WE'RE COMPLETELY SERIOUS! THE WAY IT REALLY WAS MEANT TO BE EXPERIENCED. WE'RE NOT MAKING THIS UP. IN WIDESCREEN BUT NO CROPPING LIKE WE DID. SUCKS TO THOSE WHO BOUGHT OUR ORANGE BRICKS."

Dragonball Z the way it was SUPPOSED to be experienced, but this time EVEN MORE.

Season 1 includes the first 3 episodes in 1080p but compressed to DVD-quality for only $39.99.

Blu-ray coming in 2012.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Oh son of a...I just realized something.

This means ANOTHER damn release of the series!

And wait...hopefully this doesn't mean the driver's license episode is gone. :(

Well, the "no filler" part is just speculation at this point.
We only know that it will be re-edited with an emphasis on action, and there's a 2ch rumor about the whole series being condensed into around 100 episodes.

Also... Well, I don't think the article actually says anything about the series being in HD and widescreen. It's a HD remastering.
But yeah, it does seem likely. I guess.

Well, I think we all know what I have to say about this...

This gives the anime producers another chance to get their act in gear and release a complete BGM soundtrack!

There. I got it out of my system.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Not sure what the OP and ED is like on the DVDs but the double episodes are still numbered as two episodes.
You also should keep in mind that whenever Shippudden airs a double episode one week, they take the following week off, so it's basically like getting one episode a week early.

As for the actual topic at hand... woah. Considering that they're condensing the episodes, are we to assume that the little changes being made to the footage are being done so there won't be too big of a difference when the animation style changes? I'm still pretty fuzzy as to what exactly is being done, but from what I get, it sounds pretty cool.

I can just imagine the narrator going through some kind of mini montage of what went on besides training during the gap before the Androids showed up.

EDIT: Ack, completely forgot this! Assuming that they're going through the entire series, do you think they'll be making a new animation to match with the kanzenban ending? It's a bit of a stretch, but I figured I'd at least bring that up.

Not really, I've seen all of about 15 episodes of the original Dragonball, and that movie is definitely one of - if the the - best DB/Z movies in my opinion.

Wow, this is amazing. And I thought it couldn't get any better(new DBZ stuff) after the new special.

Worst part is, I would have to get a HD set-up if it was the only way to see this.
They would lose a lot of customers that way. It will most likely be on both DVD and Blu ray.

Wow! I don't have much to say, as everyone else has summed up...

It sounds great, and I hope it turns out to be a success to audiences.

For a group that didn't even finish releasing the Ultimate Uncut discs, I'm pretty sure that they don't care if they have to release it again as "t3h r34l DBZ! No really, we mean it this time!"

For the love of christ, don't bring that back up, again! I'll never get over that!

Wow, so I'm totally not reading all 8 pages here. Anyone want to sum up what the current expectations are for this release? It certainly seems promising based on the OP, but what exactly is going to happen here? Is the art literally being re-drawn, or is it just going to be zoomed in on for "HD" resolutions or something like that? Will there be any cropping as a result of the difference in aspect ratio? Details, please!

Check out today's news on the homepage. There's a nice listing of everything that we know so far. It's also up on Kanzentai.

Cheers! I should really check the main page more...

I'm really, really looking forward to the revamped openings and endings more than anything else. The opening in the newest special was amazing enough--imagine the originals redone in that style? I'm all giddy just thinking about it! :D

Awesome, awesome news. ^_^
