Favourite Set Pieces

Post by Sprite Satan » Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:01 pm

Another vaguely laid out and pointless topic from your King Hyena.

Throughout Dragon Ball, Z and the Grand Tour (Grand Tour! Grand Tour! Dragon Ball Geeeeeee T!!) there's been lots and lots of battles and, especially, in the animé, a lot of it can blend together into that "arms and legs flailing wildly in the vague direction of the other character" thing.

But what portions, set pieces, in other words, of these battles looked good, caught your attention or whatever?

Here's some of mine.

* Chichi's initial flurry of offence on Son Goku at the 23rd Tenkaichi Tournament.
* Goku's "Warp Kamehame Ha" at the Cell Games.
* For some reason, Mister Satan dodging Spopovitch's attacks in flashback at the 24th Tenkaichi Tournament.

Share and share alike.

Of course, there's the beam struggle between Goku and Vegeta in their battle in the Saiya-jin arc. That was a gorgeous scene.

I also thought the battle between Goku and Tenshinhan had some cool set pieces to it. Tenshinhan's flurry of blows on Goku while he's pinned to the wall, the scenes when their suspended in the air, the dodging in the battle, etc. It was a very well thought out battle to say the least.

-Trunks and Goten VS Abo and Kado while they were in the air.
-Gotenks' assault on Super Buu in the ROSAT while Buu just stands there and takes it.
-The entirety of Goku VS Cell in the anime.
-The beginning of Goku VS Majin Vegeta, where they basically play a game of "who can fight the longest while holding a handstand?"
-Goku VS Krillin at the 23rd TB. Allz of it.
-Majin Vegeta dodging the huge pink "atom bomb"-esque blasts from Majin Buu. Also, when he gets tied up and Buu begins boxing his face.

There are a lot of good segways that lead into "punch kick speed lines."

I liked Gohan fighting 2nd form Freeza kinda. It was a mirror of how Goku reacted to Krillin‘s death. Mostly when he throws that HUGE blast at Freeza.

What really stood out for me was Jackie Chun's Electrifying Surprise Attack on Goku at the 21st Budokai, and then Goku turning into an Oozaru. Epic.

There's one scene during Goku vs Majin Vegeta with some freakin' awesome choreography. None of that zip-lines hooey, it's almost like a dance.

It's the part that ends with them both falling and smirking at each other, if y'all remember it.

That's maybe my favorite scene in the series, actually.

Oh man, I love that part. It's almost the sole reason I want Season Eight.

Let's see...

In episode 4 of DBZ when Goku and Piccolo charged Raditz.

Reacoome's eraser gun.

When Goku Dodges Both Jheese and Butta.

When Vegeta's assault Against the wounded Captain Ginyu.

The sonic boom filled filler of Piccolo vs Freeza.

Freeza dodging piccolo, Gohan and Kuririn. With no effort.

Much of Goku vs Freeza.

When SSJ Goku beats Freeza around like a ping pong ball on Namek.

When Goku and Cell are zipping around the ring and the sky.

When Vegetto stops all of super Gohan Buu's Attacks. With his arms crossed...

Also, just after being turned back from a Jawbreaker, that scene where Gohan Buu powers up, charges and gets owned by Vegetto.

I'm going to have to point to the more up close and brutal moments while Piccolo and #17 were beating the everloving tar out of each other. You could really feel the impact of some of those hits.

Come to think of it, Cell taking down #17 had some painful looking blows as well.

SSJ2 Goku vs Kid Buu's filler ep(with some parts during the fight that happened during the real SSJ3 Goku vs Kid Buu battle from the manga). No generic zippy lines mashing against each other nor interrupting dialogue inbetween the battle. It was fantastic and well animated.
