"Burst Limit" or "Infinite World"?

Post by MajinKing » Sun Feb 08, 2009 2:53 pm

I have to say that I am very disappointed in Burst Limit, especially since it is the first Next Gen Dragonball game. Basically, it was just Budokai 01 but with improved graphics and repetitive cutscenes. Then they have the urge to leave you this feature after you pass the storymode... they let you view cutscenes they decided not to put in the game. Those cutscenes looked awesome as heck. That to me was a bit of a slap on the you know what.

Now let's talk about Infinite World. It has Budokai three's graphics. I will tell you right now that this game was awesome! There were a lot of cool new things, such as being able to collect the dragonballs on foot and a few mini games. The cut scenes are hella awesome; they made the cut scenes like how they did in the first Budokai. The fighting gameplay is pretty good. I can't help but think that if Burst Limit had all this it woud be even better.

I like Infinite World beter, but which one do you choose?

First, I believe there's a similar topic to this already, and secondly... I absolutely can't stand Infinitive World, but love to play 2 player mode in Burst Limit.

I don't consider Infinite World to be a Dragonball game. It's more like a cry for more money by Atari or whoever the hell came up with the idea for this "thing". I'd play Burst Limit over that shit-load, any day.

Burst Limit was very enjoyable. There were just enough characters to have a decent sized roster and keep each character unique. The combat system was one of the best I've seen in a Dragonball game. Infinite World was garbage. My friends call it the half-assed expansion pack for B3. All it is is a cash-in for Atari... poorly put together, rushed and marketed as the last PS2 DBZ game so people would go omg!

Burst Limit was small, but well put together, well constructed and very enjoyable... one of the best DBZ games I've played.

It's hard to say... I've played a little bit of Burst Limit, and I won't be able to give a good opinion on Infinite World until I get it for myself in a short while. But neither seemed to me like automatically "better" than the other. Burst Limit was little more than a next-gen experiment with pretty visuals, and Infinite World was the opposite; one last good game for the current gen.

Speaking of Infinite World... where's the sudden hate for it coming from? Is everyone just glancing at Gamespot's rating for it and regurgitating that, or have we truly forgotten the fun new stuff it brought to the table? New characters, new gameplay modes, sexy cutscenes, improved capsule system, etc... The only actual disadvantage I can think of compared to B3 is that IW didn't have beam struggles.

I actually own Infinite World (curse me) and I enjoyed it, at first. But after a while, it got very repetitive and boring. It just got worse and worse. It was like the GT effect: Only getting worse from the beginning.

I will freely admit part of the reason I do not like Infinite World too much is because I suck at fighting games and IW's "Very Easy" is not very easy.

Honestly, I just enjoy Burst Limit, regardless of difficulty, because I feel more like I'm playing a simulation of the animé, rather than a simulation of the Dragon World, which is what I feel I get with the Sparking! series.

I like the "long" ultimate attacks of the Budokai series, for example. I like BL's drama pieces, as long as I make sure I'm not going to see the same ones over and over.

Even if I were a fighting game god, I'd think I'd feel much the same because I'd likely pick almost any other fighting game for "serious" gaming anyway.

My friend bought the game and brought it to my house. We spent the whole night playing the story mode from beginning to end. Believe me when I say I've never laughed harder then I did at the poorly edited lip sync. Also the lack of beam struggles was a HUGE turn off. One thing my friend and I love to is when a new DBZ game comes out and we play vs for the first time, we both select either Goku or Vegeta, back up as far as possible and engage in an epic beam struggle! It's silly but we have been doing it since Budokai 3. So that was a big disappointment to me.

I bought both games (IW before BL) and I was sorely displeased with how downgraded IW was to Budokai 3 in some aspects. The difficulty was mind-numbingly insane and I ended up selling off the game within three days of having it.

Burst Limit felt better to handle and go with, despite the smaller character roster. The Drama Pieces are rather stupidly annoying to get at times, especially to activate when you do have them, but the game can actually be fun to play and handles better.

Only problem I had with BL outside of that was finding anyone to actually play against. Other night I had only three people to play against, with only two actually fighting me (third just sat in a lobby creation room idling). And unfortunately...I got owned by one helluva Ginyu fighter who tricked me into beating his ass until he switch bodies. *face palm*

They're both kinda "meh"... but at least Burst Limit isn't some last minute cash-grabbing before a console dies.

Infinite World didn't suck or anything, it was a reasonably solid game, but it wasn't really worth buying if you had Tenkaichi 3 in my opinion.
In a nutshell: Likes the sub and the dub and barely ever posts.

Did you mean Budokai 3? Because BT3 and IW are quite different games.

Infinite World was a decent addition to the Budokai series IMO. Although Burst Limit offered some nice eye candy, it's all based on personal preference if people like the gameplay style(with obnoxious slow movement when going up to your opponent or backing away, they need to fix that if there's a sequel) that BL uses.

Personally, I like Infinite World better because not only does it do the whole series again, it adds some new characters and lets you use death moves mid-combo instead of you having to do specific button combinations to use them, making your unique combos less limiting and even lets newbies wanting to get into "cancels" learn them much more easily than in B3(with the help of a combo/move list to boot). The only issue I have with IW is that stupid fatigue system and the spammable upgraded hyper mode(although it's easy to avoid anyways but still, it can be annoying at times). Also I was really happy how the went back to the P and K style fighting instead of BL's.

So basically IW took the risk of going a few steps back(lack of beams struggles, added that fatigue system, 3 or so characters removed, etc.) but took even more steps forward(death moves being able to be used in any combo, added quite a handful of characters, nice cutscenes, easier learning curve for people who want to actually learn to do combos/do combo cancels, aura dashing, and so forth).

I played Burst Limit far more. But that isn't saying much. With most DB games, I buy them more for collection purposes than anything else.

Now I feel like an idiot for PMing you about how to do that guard-stance (press X and L1 together, though make sure X is pressed first). In regard to the topic, while I haven't really gotten a chance to give Burst Limit a go (and probably never will on a Ps3 of my own, since I don't plan on getting one), I really enjoy Infinite World for many of the reasons Sora and Kaboom pointed out. Also wrote a sorta-review on it. After not playing it for a long while, I got back on to it (having to start from scratch in my memory card) and unlocked everything. Infinite World doesn't have a complex capsule-unlocking system, you pretty much just have to beat everything in the story mode and then you can buy everything. And while the difficultly level can be rather psychotic, I've found the game is rather quite easy once you learn how to frequent the Aura Bursts and rely more on teleport-pinballing your opponent.

So in the end, yeah, I'm probably gonna suggest Infinite World over Burst Limit.

What I don't like most on Burst Limit, It's the music, which look like Yamamoto is out of ideas after series of OST's he made for games....
I think the Infinite World is awesome, I enjoyed this game from the begining to the end but what I missing here are more cutscenes and story explanations in dragon missions, because this degraded this game only to fan who seen the whole 3 series of Dragon Ball and I don't understand why are unlocked only locations when you are battle with Goku and after you win the last fight in GT saga, there are unlocked new locations in each saga with other warriors...... and one last point, they can change the image of Goku, when he was going as figure trough the sagas

Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

While I would say Burst Limit is better overall (the online has kept it alive for me), I wouldn't say Infinite World is a bad game by any means. It's an improvement on the Budokai 3 system, so I really don't know why so many people are hating on it recently. I admit, when you complete the game 100% (all capsules), it does get a little stale, but what do you expect really? I have friends who come round and still play it with me.. perhaps Infinite World sucks to those with a lack of a social life? :P

Infinite World has Adult Gohan and Videl.

A fun game with my favorites. That's all I can ask for.
