Perhaps as a solution, Mike and co. could put up a brief translation of the segments they play in Japanese. Much like the pages for "Meri's Top 5 _____," they would act as a supplement for those listening.SSJ2bardock wrote:Sandwich man said it better than I did, this has nothing to do with wanting to hear the FUNimation dialogue (well for me it doesn't anyways), it's just me wanting to..... ya know, know what they're saying.

This would solve our little problem, relatively painlessly too, right? It works for me anyway. I just want to know the translation of what they're saying, otherwise listening to it is pointless. If I can read along, it's all good.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Perhaps as a solution, Mike and co. could put up a brief translation of the segments they play in Japanese. I agree, that would help those of us that are Japanese illiterate and it would be relatively low effort for you guys.ImmortalSandwich wrote:This would solve our little problem, relatively painlessly too, right? How about for those scenes that I'm taking from R2s and don't have a translation for?
I don't necessarily have a terrible time with a rough idea of what they're saying, but I can't exactly type it out for you.
Another long story short, I have a really had time understanding how having a random sound sample here and there is seemingly such a detriment to anyone. I just thought it might be fun to have them in
. Instead, the discussion seems to be less about the content of the episode, and more about how it's put together. I can certainly learn my lesson...! It's a ton of work to locate them and edit them in, so if the overall consensus is that they're not wanted (even if I'm mostly reading it as "I like the FUNimation dub, not the Japanese version!"), I'll simply not do them.

Couldn't you just, like, ask someone with the orange brick sets to PM you the Steve Simmons subtitles from, say, "the scene in episode 200 where Vegeta acts cocky" and then just toss them up in order of broadcast on the old podcast on a good old fashioned HTML page (or in the podcast topics original post).
Sure, it's a pain in the ass either way but if you want to do something, but feel every other alternative isn't worth the effort...

Aw, just do it how you like and say nuts to everyone else.Another long story short, I have a really had time understanding how having a random sound sample here and there is seemingly such a detriment to anyone. As for the content of the episode, I found it very interesting. I'd actually come up with a question for the podcast about Chichi and Goku's relationship (which I've emailed in now), so it's a shame I didn't think of it before you asked for questions in the IRC channel.
Edit: Sprite Satan's alternative is pretty doable. There would probably be someone in the channel who'd be able to check the bricks for you.

VegettoEX you said yourself that emphasis will be placed on the Japanese version because it's the universal one people can relate to or whatever. You should stick to your guns. People just gotta respect that. Not doing the clips anymore will take away from the episode.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Time to hook the electrodes up to Julian again, then ;pVegettoEX wrote:How about for those scenes that I'm taking from R2s and don't have a translation for?I don't necessarily have a terrible time with a rough idea of what they're saying, but I can't exactly type it out for you.
I don't see a problem with it either, then again I'm the guy who isn't fluent and imported the whole series anyway (leading most to call me insane). I simply thought of that as a "middle-ground" solution to what seemed to bug a couple of people (though Bussani said it first, I just didn't catch his post a minute or so before mine).Another long story short, I have a really had time understanding how having a random sound sample here and there is seemingly such a detriment to anyone. Personally, I think the little clips add a bit of atmosphere to the show and shouldn't be ejected just because of something this minor

You're taking this all the wrong way. I normally enjoy your sound clips, and I really think it adds something to the show, most of the time. And I don't think anyone is saying "I don't like the Japanese version, so post the English one!", I certainly am not anyway, because I respect the Japanese script a lot more than the English one.VegettoEX wrote:How about for those scenes that I'm taking from R2s and don't have a translation for?I don't necessarily have a terrible time with a rough idea of what they're saying, but I can't exactly type it out for you.

All I'm saying is, since this is a show we have to listen to, I would enjoy to be able to understand what I'm listening to. It's a combination of the amount of sound clips you used in this one, and the fact that I didn't understand any of it that drove me to say anything about it anyway.
Seriously, don't take it personally. We all love the podcast, and this one covered a fun subject, and I rather enjoyed it. The only problem worth mentioning was not understanding all the dialogue between the characters, instead I hear people speaking Japanese, and you say a couple sentences summing up what they were saying. But I still didn't get to understand all that great dialogue. But this really isn't a big deal. It won't stop me from listening to the podcast regularly, and it's not like you do this excessively.
Being able to read along would be great, but if you can't do it, oh well.

I believe it was also a tiny failure not to mention the female frog who fell in love with Ginyu after his failed final body change.
Seriously though... I've been trying to think of other examples where animals or random, non-recurring characters show love... anyone got some examples?
Also, when I think of DB and love, I definitely think primarily of the anime episode during the break before the cell games where they show the flashback of Goku and Chi-chi walking in the woods with the stroller. What about you guys?

And for me, I think about the scene they mentioned on the podcast when Goku wakes up from his heart disease and him and Chi Chi share a pretty romantic moment. Brings a tear to my eye =']
Also, I love the scene where Chi Chi talks about her first date with Goku, rather dreamily, explaining that they did nothing but fight all day. IIRC, she says that's how she fell in love with Goku. Through fighting. Pretty funny when you think about it

Did that have the flashback to the filler of them as kids? I can't remember it perfectly, but they were by a lake I think and Goku somehow initiated the fighting.ImmortalSandwich wrote:Also, I love the scene where Chi Chi talks about her first date with Goku, rather dreamily, explaining that they did nothing but fight all day. I think I remember the dub version of that scene being so very wrong. In the flashback, wasn't Chi Chi made out to be a gigantic slut? She said something like, "Its the boy's job to make the girl do what he wants" or some such shit. I just remember going, "Wow. That's...pretty fucked up."ImmortalSandwich wrote:Also, I love the scene where Chi Chi talks about her first date with Goku, rather dreamily, explaining that they did nothing but fight all day. Crap.... I can't think of it off the top of my head. I'm sure it was after he changed back out of Bulma's body, meaning it was either during the Freeza fight, or after everyone on Namek had been transported to Earth.ImmortalSandwich wrote:

MajinVejitaXV and Bussani: Yeah you're both right. I don't remember if they were by a lake or not, but I remember a big tree, that I think Goku was leaning up against while they were chatting. Chi Chi said something along the lines of "The boy's supposed to make the girl happy" and "They do the most enjoyable thing", and she sorta blushes. To me, it sounds like she's referring to something sexual, but Goku reacts in a very predictable way, saying "The most enjoyable thing huh?!" Then he throws a punch at her, and they start fighting. It's a hilarious scene, I really love it. I'd like to see more of Chi Chi and Goku's relationship in this aspect, since it's very entertaining to watch =P
