I read the beginning of the summery. If they're true, then, wow! I think I really will enjoy this movie as Dragon Ball.

I read some of those junior novel spoilers, and some sounds cool, other stuff, well, whatever.

But what I dislike the most is the whole "Namekians are evil space pirates who shape shift". That's about as wrong as it gets, and that garbage was in that leaked script. I really hope that doesn't appear in the final film.

I just read the junior novel spoilers and I really like the movies take on the Nameks. Maybe we Saiyan fans will finally get the noble Saiyans in the sequels that everyone else dislikes.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

What?! You sound selfish! What about the Namekians(Well at least those sissies get to seem bad ass in the film)?!

Roshi pushes his hand toward the fire.

FIRE

In the flames, images appear. Surreal, free form - like an hallucination. The images dance, never settling enough to form anything more than an impression.

ROSHI
The Nameks are an alien race who discovered Earth during a most unfortunate alignment of our planets. Led by Lord Piccolo and his right hand, Oozaru the Destroyer, their goal was to conquer the Earth through extermination.

Goku stares into the fire. He sees glimpses of what he has experienced when he touched a Dragon Ball. The red eyes, razor sharp fangs of the demon.

ROSHI
Seven mystics banded together to fight the invaders. It was only through the courage of the ancient masters that Earth survived. They sacrificed their lives to cast the Ma Fu Ba, a powerful curse that imprisoned Lord Piccolo into an encircling urn. Before their deaths, they created the Dragon Balls. So that their power, in the form of Shen Long the Dragon God, may be used against a future enemy.

FIRE

The faces and hands of the masters as they cast the curse. Energy releasing from their palms. A young Lord Piccolo is caught in a vortex of energy and is sucked down into a prayer urn.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Forgive the confusion, but this original oozaru in live action Roshi's tale, is it supposed to have been live action Goku or some other saiyajin? Because if this supposedly happened 2000 years ago then it couldn't be him.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's another Saiyan. Goku apparently gets shown as a baby being found by Gohan, and he's only 18 years old.

Makes one wonder what kind of roles these 'movieverse' versions of the races are going to play in the sequels.

The Namekians come to Earth to kill everyone and take over the planet... so they're the Saiyans? :?

It's not Goku, it can be any Saiyan.

***MAJOR SPOILERS***

The saiyans are different in the movie. Instead of being able to turn back into a human after they become an Oozaru, they can NOT turn back in the movie because it is their true self. The exception is Goku due to other reasons.

I'm liking how they're creating their own DragonBall mythos, here. I wonder what kind of roles the movieverse versions of the Namekians and Saiyans will play in the sequels.

The problem I have is, when does "creating their own mythos" turn into flat out creating their own series? I mean, seriously. Goku is an amalgam of protagonists from The WB's lineup, Nameks have gone from peaceful beings to being warring conquerors, Bulma is Lara Croft...take away the names, and what really makes this DragonBall as opposed to some original action film?

If that's really all, then...wow. Besides, they're Promethium Orbs, remember? ;)

If that's their default form in this movieverse...

Are you saying that in a proverbial "What if" sequel, Vegeta would look like an oozaru all the time?! :(

The story about a strong, kind-hearted but fight-loving, somewhat gluttonous, goofy and naive martial artist boy who transforms into a large man-ape and is later revealed to have alien origins, a flirtatious, ambitious, and assertive beautiful girl who's a scientific genius, a tough but sympathetic desert bandit punk, and a wise and lecherous old martial arts master who was the teacher of the protagonist's late grandfather, all banding together to seek out a set of seven mystical orbs with stars in them that when gathered together will summon a powerful dragon capable of granting a wish, so that a powerful, somewhat-demonic, green, antennae'd, alien overlord doesn't get them first and use their power to ultimately subjugate and/or destroy the world.

That's quite 'DragonBall.' Show that with different names and a different title, and people will say, "What a ripoff of DragonBall." A few things have been condensed, switched around, or adapted, but there's still plenty, both in terms of story and visuals, to capture the feel and sense of mystical adventure and action that DragonBall had. It's coming to us in a new medium, with a new take on it. No, it's not just like the Dragonbible manga, and I don't know why some folks still expect it to be. There's no law against taking some creative license.
MajinVejitaXV wrote:Besides, they're Promethium Orbs, remember?
Only to Bulma, until Goku tells her what they're really called. If you're going to make cracks, at least try to keep ALL the facts straight...

Was this really necessary? I thought DaizEX was the last sanctum on the internet where one could avoid comments like this.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see what Mr. Wong does with Vegeta. Him ending up having control as an Oozaru, yet becoming capable of turning back to his humanoid self like Goku, could be a major plot point. Heck, it might even segue into Super Saiyan somehow. A little creativity, and this could work really well.
