Oh, shit, I should probably say something about the live action movie to make this post relevant.

Well, the truth is, I'm starting to open up to the possibility of this being good, now that I've abandoned any hope of it being any kind of a faithful adaptation. Of course it seems like any time I get any enthusiasm for this, something pops up that makes me wonder why they did such a thing. The title of the movie comes to mind as doing this for me in a big way.

I don't give a shit about this movie. I will of course as a fan of the source material give the film a chance, but I am not going in with preconceived notions it will suck or that it will be good. Sweet, sincere apathy.

No, Bardock will be a woman, because of that Hollywood nowadays requires useful heroines.
It will be revealed, that the great King Vegeta had a lovechild with Bardock, a low class citizen of the planet Vegeta.
This was of course not socially accepted, and was hidden from the Saiya-jins.
So in this way, Goku and Vegeta are half-brothers, giving way for them being rivals and funny lines like "if you only were half the brother" and the answer "I am half the brother!".
Freeza kills King Vegeta prior to trying to wipe out the Saiya-jins, and Bardock goes for a killing spree to have her vengeance against the man who killed her man.
Freeza's ship is of course very alike the Enterprise from Star Trek.

Names that will be given the characters:

King Vegeta: Vegeta III, the King, Dad
Freeza: Freeza the tyrant, Lord Freeza, Freeza Johnson
Bardock: Bardocka Philips
