Anybody else think that if DBK is successful, and gets massive ratings, that when they reach the end of the Buu saga...they'll just keep going? As in a totally new story arc?

Even if Toei wants to, I highly doubt it because Akira Toriyama probably won't even allow it, after seeing GT :/

I believe Toriyama liked GT.

Toriyama won't give a shit. Seriously, the guy is the ultimate apathetic. He was probably half awake/driving/taking a massive dump while writing most of the manga.

*Toriyama is taking his shit*

I love how this forum crosses the line from "Oh Toriyama you silly apathetic forgetful old man." to "TORIYAMA LITERALLY JUST SHITS OUT MANGA!"

It's almost magical.

I wasn't saying he was a bad writer or anything like that, but that people seem to have this notion Dragon Ball is as precious to him as it is to us, when that is far from reality.

You see the Cell Games as this coming-of-age epic where Goku's legacy will live on through Gohan; the torch has been passed and Gohan has transformed from this whiny brat to a true hero, like his father.

Toriyama sees it as some stuff he drew.

I don't think there will be a new series afterward, but I think new movies would be a possibility.

Re-done DB?

Not sure if there is enough TO re-do for GT, but they might if it seems profitable.

To me, it looks as they think it'll be enough to redo Z, sine they throw in DB stuff into Kai, but I guess that also could be done for people not into Dragonball to easier have the background story.

Wow, what a difference 24 hours makes! Let me see how many comments and queries I can address....

Pain asks...
So are these re-used Bardock scenes from the special, or what??
From what I've seen, yes, they are.

sangofe:
Are they censoring violence as well?
Doesn't look like it so far.

Hmm...guess there really ain't as much to address. As for everything else. wait and see. I'm finding out this stuff little by little myself as production goes on...

Any new music besides opening themes?
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

So long as he doesn't have to draw it all himself, Mr Toriyama really doesn't seem to care what they do.

Will they do it? Will we end up with a Dragon Ball AF? Who knows. You might say, "no, after all this time it just wouldn't happen," but I've seen that proven wrong a lot. We never thought season 3 of Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki would be made, but 10 years later, there it was. That and a brand new Guyver series. And 2 new seasons of Slayers. And 3 new seasons and a movie of Mysterious Cities of Gold. And let's not forget they already made a new version of Dr Slump back in the late 90s or whenever it was.

I'm just not surprised by anything any more.

Wasted Wisher:
Do you know anything about the issue of it being cropped?
Will it be mostly cropped for scenes where it doesn't look bad, and scenes that look bad with cropping will have redone art/animation?
Or will everything be cropped...?

Do you know anything about the opening and ending songs?
Have you worked on/discovered anything past episode 1?

Don't know anything about the intro and ending song yet, or anything past episode 1.
All of the scenes that were being worked on so far are not being cropped...in fact, quite the reverse, they're being extended. The old format of the original footage is too small to fit the standard frame sizes used for anime nowadays. So all the artwork has to be extended outwards to fit the new frame sizes; this includes both the animation itself and the background art.

That's a huge undertaking.

In addtion to a great leak by our best source Wasted Wisher, I have a scan from V Jump.

Image

This says that they will cut most of fillers and BGM will totally be re-recorded.

Edit:
Another page I haven't scanned yet says that they will carry Manga version of 2008 Special on V Jump. It's not drawn by Akira Toriyama.

Holy properly adapted material, Batman!

I can't wait. Man, this sounds like an incredibly epic undertaking, I can't believe they're actually doing it. Almost seems like a shame they're not reanimating it, but then again... I'll take this any day of the week.
