It's true. Ever heard of the "one more stroke of the paintbrush could ruin the painting" saying?Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Mess with something that's good, and you'll have a greater chance that it'll end up ruined in the end.Velasa wrote:Stop trying to revitalize it? oO
Dude. We're a Dragonball community. We love Dragonball. Why would we possibly not want it to come back again?

Exactly. Just let the memories we have with it be enough. If they start to keep pushing it and pushing it down our throats with all the millions of releases and re-vitalizing and all that, it'll just make me, personally, sick of it. I have a nostalgia for it, and it's not the show itself, it's the feeling I had back then. Running home to record the old Ocean dub episodes so I could have my collection. My parents getting me the Japanese versions Final Bout and DBZ Legends for no reason other than they knew I was a huge fan and saw it in Manhattan somewhere. All the friends that loved it so much and we'd speculate about it, and we'd make BS up about what happens in later episodes and all that. That is what I love about Dragon Ball. It's not the show itself, it's the memories. The more releases they have and all that stuff, it just makes it feel more like "just a show".
Except this is an alteration to a copy of the original paintng. The original still exists "unspoiled."Zenkai Power wrote:It's true. As someone who's been writing fanfiction on this series for the last decade, I'll resoectfully disagree. There are things that could go badly, but there's a lot of oppertunity for good at the same time. Hell, GT's pretty much cosidered a failure but it doesn't ruin the original. And while I'm conflicted on this Kai issue- the original's still all there for us if it fails. Kai won't bring new material or ideas, but it will breathe some degree of new life onto the community.
.... What I would really love would be some Parallel Works. Shit I'd love that. Short sweet randoms and viginettes that touh on the bizarre and the awesome alike for a couple minutes each.
EDIT- Greatness, hon. Every one of us here so many years after the last release is tied to memories like that. We could all give stories- I could go on for a few pages about whatthe show's meant to me since I was a kid just gettin exposed to all this stuff. And there's no way we're gonna loose those memories just because we get a special or a manga-tighter version of the show or- I have to admit- a live action movie. For me at least? None of that and nothing else could even pry this fandom out of my cold dead fingers.

YES! This. Right above here.
I'd like to see each member of the main cast get their own.
On hiatus.
Come on guys, it's not like they're going back in time and erasing the original from history. In fact, as Kendamu said, it's still available in it's original format. Even if Dragon Ball Kai turns out to be less than impressive, it doesn't hurt the show at all.
If you were to let something like this ruin your personal enjoyment of the show, then that's your problem.

I couldn't care less about the grain. What I am referring to is the fact that they are re-recording everything and cutting and pasting footage. I really hope that they are able to completely eliminate the grain and make it look like the actual cel photography. I am not adverse to change; I would love to see the series re-animated with modern technology.Kendamu wrote:Good thing they're not ruining Dragonball Z, then. You can still get it on DVD in it's 4:3 grain-tastic format in Japanese.

This is what convinces me that this is only a good thing.

Is somebody forcing you to watch Dragon Ball Kai? And how could it possibly ruin Dragon Ball Z, anyway? You'd have to be crazy to think that the original anime had better pacing than the manga.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Mess with something that's good, and you'll have a greater chance that it'll end up ruined in the end.

Let's pretend I didn't mention grain. The real point of my post still stands: You can still get Dragonball Z on DVD.Yi Xing Long wrote:I couldn't care less about the grain. Not throughout the whole thing(Freeza's fight with Goku), but the manga doesn't have the monopoly on good pacing either. I prefer Gohan's training with Piccolo in the anime, because it simply gives you more reason to care about and understand Gohan throughout it. There are times where the longer span of an event makes it work better.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Is somebody forcing you to watch Dragon Ball Kai? And how could it possibly ruin Dragon Ball Z, anyway? I'm not feeling "forced" to watch it, but as something this big in the fandom, I'm going to. I'm curious, but somewhat anxious. I'm a much bigger advocate of filler than most people.
And alright then, guys. Nobody's allowed to dislike the live-action movie anymore.
Why is the live action movie necessarily BAD, when this isn't?
Granted, the original will still exist. But this is completely different than a separate project, really. They're going back to "correct" the show, to "modernize" it for a new audience that couldn't possibly appreciate the old show.
I'm not saying the old one's not around, or that they're gonna run in and replace my DVDs with Dragon Ball Kai DVDs in the night. But I think I *am* allowed to have a anxious, somewhat negatively worrisome opinion about how it'll turn out. I *want* it to be good, but worry that it might not.

Okay. Ever heard of George Lucas and Star Wars Special Editions? haha...snaku wrote:Except this is an alteration to a copy of the original paintng. Personally, I know it isn't going to ruin the old show. But is it even necessary is my point. I'm still excited, I'll still watch it, etc.
1) The original special edition was awesome. 2) The original cinema version is now available on DVD. If anything, the fans want the original special edition on DVD, rather than the over tweaked new version. If the original special edition was available on DVD at all, no one would be complaining; its the lack of the choice that gets us.Zenkai Power wrote:Okay. With Dragon Ball you have that choice, at least in Japan. Even if Dragon Ball Kai bombs, it's no big deal. It would be a shame, I'd like it to turn out well. But we don't really lose anything.

Isn't it some shitty transcode from the old Laserdisc version? Non-anamorphic widescreen and all? Not to go off topic here, just saying.Bussani wrote:The original cinema version is now available on DVD.
With DragonBall (In Japan, at least), there's no cause for concern. Everyone can have the original version in amazing quality, unless Toei decides to make the DragonBox singles OOP (which I seriously doubt they'll do).

Yes, it is so awesome having Han and Hutt repeat the SAME EXACT SCENE as Han and Greedo five seconds earlier. =pBussani wrote: 1) The original special edition was awesome. 2) The original cinema version is now available on DVD. Yes. It's better than the Special Edition. Better than my original VHS tapes. But it's an afterthought.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Isn't it some shitty transcode from the old Laserdisc version? ANd yeah, they have it in Japan. For $30 a single. Face it: the singles aren't meant to be a means to get the whole series. Who here would get new singles rather than buy used Dragon Boxes?
