Worst character designs in the series.

Post by Velasa » Tue Mar 03, 2009 4:22 am

It struck me recently that while we have some great looking characters in Dragonball, there are some trainwrecks as well. And the disasters are more fun to talk about. So post a pic of your personal worst and tell us why!

I have to go for this guy myself.

The color pallet's a good start. Then there's the accessories, and the hat, and the fact that he's two feet tall waltzing along with a viking and a hick and it all goes downhill from there.

Bio-Broly, for one. No explanation required.

Spice, Garlic Jr's henchman, looks like a bad fusion between SSJ Goku and Zarbon. I guess that one is just more annoying than bad artwork.

EDIT- ok, why isn't this working.
It's the code on the end. Take out the ?v=0 and it'll work.

Yeah, his design is...interesting. That's the polite way of putting it.

I kinda like the hat though.

Vegeta in GT, period. From taking away his trademark hair, to SSJ4 with purple boots and gloves (and color changing eyes). Poor bastard.

And the fact that his bodysuit barely covers his ass doesn't help. I was just watching that part again.

Dr Wheelo. I mean, how was he meant to fit a car sized brain into Goku's body?

As for canon characters, I'd have to say I dislike Fat Buu's design. Don't get me wrong, he is amongst my favourite characters, but he just didn't really fit with the serious tone of later DB.

I don't think the Buu saga was that serious, really. Fat Buu was weird and unexpected, but personally I liked that.

Oh, I know one; Mecha Freeza. He's the head of this huge empire, and that's the best his scientists could come up with? It looks like they just glued random parts to him! Especially the cut-up egg cartons on his head.

When I was like 12, I thought he was one of the coolest looking characters. :D

I still reckon he's pretty nifty.

Yeah, after the mega serious escapade that was the Android Saga, Toriyama wanted a more comedic tone for the series with Great Saiyaman, but then it turned more action oriented with the tournament. The series was still never as serious as it was before.

It was still more serious than say, Dragon Ball.

And mecha Frieza looks awesome, but its a pity they didn't include built in weapons of some kind...

In my opinion, the worst character designs are ABO AND CADO. IMO, they are so plain and simple with barely any details... it *kinda* annoyed me in the special.

Case and point Slug. Do we really need another Namekian....Really?
I can forget Vegeta's GT hair cut and mustache, thought I like his Super Saiyajin 4 design.

I hate Dodoria. Just a big ugly pink blob with spikes. He's not even interesting as a bad guy.

I think it only looks big because of the refraction of the glass.

Oh God, I forgot how much I loathed that mutant Krang on steroids in body armour. :x

I would have to go with Fat Buu, Fat Janenba, Bobidi, and Bibidi.

I cannot believe some here hate Vegeta’s GT design, I thought that was his best design and yes, I hate the mustache as well. It always reminds me of Freddy Mercury.

The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Bardock, Tulluce and Goten's come the fuck on how many Goku clones do you need?

I think Toei were going off Tullece’s line in Movie #3 about most low-levels looking relatively the same.
