Vegeta's age?
Vegeta's age?
Going off the Bardock special, he's got a few years on Goku. Anime characters are always pushing it with ages, so they day Planet Vegeta was destroyed, he could've been anywhere between 6 or 12, looking at his size.
Any confirmation on this? The year he was born given in the timeline anywhere?

He's five years older than Goku, and since Goku is a newborn in the Bardock Special, he'd be five.
Even though he looks about 12.

Really? I always thought that Gohan looked his age, especially compared to his father (but I guess that's in reverse).omegacwa wrote:Well, Gohan was also 5 on Namek and looked 12. Toriyama obviously doesn't cater to realism as a 5 year old would never be able to fight with adults. The Tori-bot wrote:He's five years older than Goku, and since Goku is a newborn in the Bardock Special, he'd be five.

At first I was reading those like they were supposed to be stressed but then the post just ended up reading like Griffith voiced it.Rocketman wrote:Why the italics?Dr. Casey wrote:Technically, you could consider Vegeta's first appearance to be 28, whenever it shows him and Nappa flying through space in those space pods, and says it will be one year until the Saiyajins arrive.

But then you have to take into account the hyperbolic time chamber and time spent in other world.
Vegeta spent two full years in the chamber. The first time Goku used it, it was only for a few months. And the the second time it was a little less than a year, don't have the exact numbers but I'll estimate around a year to a year and two months. So that would put him about another year ahead of Goku, making him about 6 years older.
Goku spends a year in other world, and then seven more after his fight with cell. Vegeta spends less than a day in otherworld after Frieza kills him and then less than a day again in the Buu saga. Technically this doesn't affect amount of time either character has existed, but it would actually make Goku's body between 1 and 2 years younger than Vegeta's!

Actually if:
Vegeta is initially 5 years older than Goku.
Goku spends 1 year in otherworld, and does not age so:
Vegeta is now 6 years older.
Goku spends 1 year in time chamber, now setting it back to 5 year difference.
Vegeta spends 2 years in time chamber, now setting him to 7 years older.
Goku dies and spends 7 years in other world, so he does not age again:
So Vegeta is now 14 years older than Goku.
So at the final tally of Z, not counting GT when Goku becomes a kid, Vegeta is 14 years older than Goku.

That doesn't count, espicially as Saiyans who slowly age. They're still five years apart, Son's just got a younger body.omegacwa wrote:Actually if:

Wait, why doesn't the room of space and time count as aging?
And what would the fact that they slowly age have to do with how old they are? Because they look young for 50-year-olds at the end of Z doesn't mean they're not 50, right?
"50" is a number I pulled out of my ass.
EDIT: I think I misinterpreted what you meant by "younger body." It explains Heaven, but not the RoSaT.

yeah, I counted it backwards.
Vegeta's body is 6 years older after Goku's year in otherworld.
Vegeta gains another year on Goku in the ROST so his body is 7 years older.
Then Goku goes to otherworld for 7 years making his body 14 years older. But only 6 years older in terms of existence.

I like to think that since Saiyans are young for a lot longer and live a lot longer than humans, it takes them longer to mature. Look at Goku for example, when he is 12 he looks about 6. When he is 16, he looks about 10. It's the only explanation I can think of to explain Goku's quite young appearance in Dragonball. This however, does not explain little Vegeta, as he looks older than his supposed age of 5 years old in the Bardock special.

My theory is that the maturity of Saiyans is very inconsistent and varies between each member. This is the only reason that I think makes sense, as Vegeta would have had a fast growth rate, and Goku would've had a slow one, until after the Piccolo Daimao arc, where he had a fast growth rate.Satan-Sama wrote:I like to think that since Saiyans are young for a lot longer and live a lot longer than humans, it takes them longer to mature.
