The Emperor was a member of the Galactic Senate from Naboo. Whether the "Supreme Chancellor" is actually him or just a youngish clone has yet to be seen, however.

Who are we talking about? Palpatine? Darth Sidious? Dooku? Vallorum or whatever?
The Sith are that old. Not the individual members, I'm more talking about the organization itself. Exar Kun and all that. Chewbacca, about 200 at the time of A New Hope, couldn't be the original Sith lord, if that's the preposterous idea you're proposing.

The interesting thing about Sidious is that the movies so far have not credited who played him, though it's pretty obvious. For the guys who don't know what I'm talking about, I won't spoil it for you.
