So what exactly was the DFS?

As the title would imply, exactly what was the Disc Fusion System for the BT3/Sparking Meteor! games? I bought the Wii version, and thus, could not use that. I've also never actually knew what it did either. So, what was it, how did you do it, and what did you get out of it?

It basically unlocks a new "arcade"-type mode. (As least that's what I recall.)

I forget what it's called, but it looks like the Arcade mode in Mortal Kombat, where you move up the pillars.
