Though it will never happen, I suppose a recast of Yamcha or Vegeta is appropriate, as they had a tendency to sound too much alike.

However, if they were to ever actually recast those roles, it will obviously be Yamcha to get a new VA.

I don't hear that...Yamcha's very smooth and sufer like while Vegeta's pure rasp most of the time.

Well, it's mostly in the early FUNimation dub. I believe Sabat pretty much differentiated both roles by the Cell Games.

But watch the Trunks epsiodes and don't tell me Vegeta doesn't sound like Yamcha when he calls Tenshinhan a "LOOOOOSER!!"

Yeah, I have to say that the two voices are pretty well-differentiated and always have been to my ears. I don't like the voices, but at least the cast doesn't sound at all similar to me.

I'm just glad Sabat lost Yamcha's surfer dude accent. I really hope they redub this show and well but if season 1 and 2 has taught me anything they'll use the same fudged up script, get rid of some lame jokes (yet invent some in the process) and be done with it. I really think it's a fat chance they'll keep the music. Something tells me they'd think it would be a safer bet to just add some ol' redundant bullshit techno rock.

Maybe...I mean they basically just used the Transcripts from the Ocean Dub...But maybe if it were a completely new series they might treat it with the same respect they treat all their other series. Hell, they gave DragonBall a good treatment.

They gave Dragonball a relatively good treatment, which isn't saying much.

Original Music, good release style, & the scripts were pretty acurate.

You really don't have to look far to see Funimation sticking in their own jokes into the series. Especially with Roshi's serious moments. They'll get the gist of what Roshi said, certainly, but they'll also push in a joke to ruin the TONE of the scene. And it doesn't help that while Roshi's english VA can do the comedy bits fairly well, he seems completely incapable of pulling off seriousness. He just still sounds goofy when he does the "serious" moments, because he has a "cartoon old man" voice.

And ugh, English Bulma's VA just makes me want to rip my hair out.

I will give them MAJOR props for the DVD releases and the music. But it just made the product FAR better than Z....not a good product.

I disagree entirely. I think Roshi does great in both comedy and serious moments. I don't think he sounds goofy in his serious tone at all.

Everytime I hear his English voice, I get a severe hunger for KFC.

Just sayin'.

He dropped the country accent by the time they started dubbing Dragon Ball. At least to where I didn't notice it, but I'm surrounded by a bunch of country accents where I live so I might be used to it.

It's also how long it took in that old Arrival VHS, which I remember as being a lot closer to the manga than the original (dub aside). :P

Reading through this thread has reminded me just how out of the loop I am. In one place we have a re-release of DB and somthing new (Dragonball Kai? what's that?) and a movie (which is no surprise to me as I knew about this for a while). I am hoping that this won't be a dissapointment. Maybe if I can find this for less $$ (or free) it'll be worth a shot. ON a unrelated note I did see Watchmen and I loved it btw. Good bit of filmmaking on that one. Too bad I'll be in a chemical induced coma when I see the Dragonball one. Might need to not even know my own name before going into the theater. Eat a lot of popcorn too. Good series stuff coming up and that's all folks.

Try reading the front page. There is a website attached to these forums. :o

Dragon Ball Kai is the name of this new re-release of Dragon Ball Z(they're skipping over pre-Z, opting to summarize it at the start of episode 1). Lots of stuff in the thread, most of the important stuff is collected on the main page.

Thank you for pointing that out. And now for my overshadowed comment

Let's hope Norio Wakamoto won't screw his 1st form Cell performance like he did the with the Sparking series because it was AWFULL. I enjoyed the voice samples from Podcast 64, but in Sparking series he sounded like he forgot how to do it with his "yawny/sleepy" voice instead of the "lizerdy" noises.

I strongly disagree. Yes there's some Funimation-ized things in the Dub. But for the most part it stays accurate. I happen to enjoy Roshi's serious moments in the Dub, I think Mike McFarland is a great actor. Yes his Roshi has a goofy voice, but hey, Masako Nozawa doesn't exactly have the most threatening voice for a muscular adult male. But her acting shine through. I enjoy hearing serious lines coming from McFarland, that goofy sounding old man stopping for a moment and being serious just gets me sometimes.

And what's wrong with Tiffany Volmer as Bulma? I've never understood why people jump on her Bulma so much.
