Honestly, I don't have a problem with it being called a kids show (maybe if it's called a little kid's show I would be a bit bothered). The only thing that bothers me is when shows like YYH are considered "teen" shows when they're obviously targeting the same audience as DB.

Tom has been hit with every inaminate object known to man, dude. The only thing keeping Tom and Jerry from being a fullbown adutl cartoon is realism. Tom's cut up nito little pieces. In real life, there would be blood everywhere after each cut. He's been hit in the head WITH AN IRON. WITH AN ANVIL. HE'S A CAT. CAT'S ARE SMALL, IT DOESN'T TAKE A LOT TO HURT A FUCKING CAT, MAN.

as for Looney Tunes, Pepé Le Pew cartoons are basically dumbed-down rape footage.

Dragon Ball is a kids show. America's standards classify it as for older children, but it's a kids show.

People thinking it's a kids show is fine. But people who think I shouldn't watch it because its a kids show, I don't like that, not that I get too worked up about it or anything.

Sorry guys, I obviously thought wrong.

I had thought that because of the bood, swearing, perverted roshi moments and other bits and pieces that dragonball was in a way, made for adults.

I had thought it was like The Simpsons... in a way. With the simpsons, the show was origionally intended for adults, but its become such a huge hit, the majority of its fans are kids.

I thought this was the same with DragonBall.

Dragon Ball IS an adult's show Lewis, but it's also a kid's show. People of all ages (well maybe not 3 year olds

) can enjoy the show.

I didn't mean demographics. If you want to get hardcore with that, this is what Dragon Ball is:

Japan- Kid's show
USA- Kid's show (The edited version)
USA- Teen's show (The uncut version)

Thing is, Japan really has different standards for what is acceptable for what demographic. There really is no way around that but to accept it. On top of that, what was acceptable then may not be as acceptable now, or vice-versa.

Dragonball really did start off as a kiddie anime, and even then it had violence and naughtiness that would have made it rated for teens in the US.

As Dragonball's audience grew up, so did the manga and anime. By the time the anime became "Z", it was most definitely aimed for at least a teen audience, what with the more serious mood and more action.

In America, it also depends on the parents preference in what their children watch.
We all know that DB/DBZ was made for kids in Japan but in America many (not all) parents are more cautious of what their kids watch so hence the show is more intended for teens in America.
I'm a mom of two, one 6 yr. old and one 8 yr. old and they both love DB and DBZ (uncut version). They love the comedy and fighting; and I enjoy the story line.

But I wasn't raised by prudish parents so therefore I'm no prude.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents out there.

I agree. Although I'd be more likely to put in the same category as Batman:TAS (albeit Dragonball is a little more childish than that), rather than the likes of Scooby Doo or whatever...That's not to say I don't like Scooby Doo!

Well it IS a kids show. It's aimed at young boys. But I do hate it when people think that ONLY kids can enjoy it. A good deal of Shonen stories easily defy their age demographic. Just like Fruits Basket is very well known for defying it's gender demographic. The problem is, I see some people on YouTube and whatnot who don't really watch Anime and just remember DBZ from their childhood. Unlike the Anime Fan Base, many Americans still think that unless it's on Fox's Sunday Night Line up that only little kids can enjoy animation.

Anyway, just to run it into the ground, DragonBall was made for young boys. However, it has material that people of all ages can enjoy, much like some comics and cartoons in America (X-Men, Spider-Man, Gargoyles, Tiny Toon Adventures/Animaniacs/Freakazoid, etc.). There's nothing wrong with liking a program just because it was made for kids.

Now, if you go somewhere and spend time talking to kids about the show, then there's obviously something wrong with you.

Ha, yeah. The "there's a nine year old born every day" remark. The actual boxes (for the older singles, not the newer sets) themselves I believe said 13 and older though. Dunno what the newer ones say.

The DB sets always came with a 13+ sticker on them.

The new sets just have a TV-PG rating in a tiny box on the back.

Doesn't bother me one bit that it's a kids show. I mean, it does get a bit AWKWARD at times, yet it's all good. No need to deny somthing that is now a fact well known by most and if not all. This movie that is coming out only makes my point ever stronger that it is indeed written and produced for a age range of 9-15 year olds. Feel free to rage at this, even though I don't believe it for a second. I just happened to be in the barrio. Chao.
