Seems logical. They already mentioned Planet Vegeta in the first Movie, so the sequel will likely be Vegeta. Then with the 2'nd Sequel, Freeza.
But dear goodness, could you imagine an animated spin-off of this movie?! I mean, they made ones for Transformers and Spiderman.
*Shudders*...Funny thing is, we'd all watch it anyway and complain.

So very true. XD

Though I'd try to MST3K my way through said animated series, laughter's healthier.
I never finished my mini-review-thoughts on the adapted characters on my youtube page because every time I recorded my speech/soliloquy turned into a rant about what they've done to Goku. ^^;;;
On hiatus.

Once I get to watch the Movie I'll likely post up a Review (Rant) on YouTube myself. Rather than go after the plot as a whole I'd like to do it character by character. That's what matters the most to me.

This is exactly where my expectations are now, especially after seeing those new clips.
Like the 1994 version of Street Fighter, which seems to have a striking number of parallels to this film.
Hey, they're making Street Fighter into a movie! Wait, why is Ryu a conman? That seems a little unnecessary...couldn't they just make him a traveling martial artist?

"Its an adaptation, you can't expect it to be exactly the same as the game."

...yeah but he's hardly anything like the original character now. Why call it Street Fighter if it barely resembles the source material?

"Its about a group of people who use the martial arts to try and stop a tyrannical overlord from world domination. That's faithful enough."

...huh?

"At least Vega looks cool! Hey, Raul Julia was a fantastic casting choice! Look at his costume, its just like the game!"

...what? What happened to applying "real-world logic"? These guys need to make up their minds!

"And look, Ryu has a backpack slung over his shoulder in one scene. That's definitely a clever homage to the games!"

*Head explodes*
Quick! Change the channel! :P

You guys are acting like Goku is being affected by this adaptation... like Ben Ramsey said, if you don't like the movie then go home and turn on the anime, they aren't going around burning every single copy of the anime's DVDs or anything. It's a retelling in a different medium. What works in one medium doesn't work in the other, yadda yadda.

And they aren't completely screwing up Goku's character, that is just an opinion. What they are doing is gradually making him more Goku-like as the movie progresses (everything about the movie becomes more like dragonball as it goes on).

It's their attempt to explain the story to non-dball fans. The story is so long in the anime that you'd need to watch a hundred episodes to know what this movie is based on. They can't do that so they condense it.

Whether or not they've been successful is up to you to decide. Watch the movie in a theater, then judge.

If it matters (we won't know for a while), I do know due to fan backlash the sequel should be more faithful, and one character may be added.

Fox is trying to take better care of their superhero movies now that all their movies flopped in 2008. They're going to reboot Daredevil, make even more X-Men films, and try Silver Surfer. Will they be good? I don't know, but I'm not a fan of any of those so I don't care.

But I think the problem is Tom Rothman, who should be fired.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Looking at the general reception of the footage so far, I can see this getting rebooted in the next few years. But I'd say it would need to make at least $200 million worldwide, and I'd say that much is possible. I just don't see it making enough for a sequel. It just seems very farfetched to me.

Pretty much everything you've said is perfectly fine, with the exception of the above. It's just another case of people analyzing what is available to them, you not liking said analysis, and (albeit more politely than previously) asking them to hold off any further analysis until the final product is out.

What's out there is out there, and people are more than free to critique what is there (and what is implied, left out, etc.). You say it's up to "us" to decide, and while I really hope that everyone will indeed give it a fair shake once it finally comes out, please don't try to dissuade people from commenting on pre-release stuff.

How do they explain the original storyline by making up something completely new? Unless Kami for some reason made Goku go down to Earth for some high school classes in the midst of the 23rd Budokai training, I don't think Goku and high school are related in the least.

How would Piccolo know Goku's saiyajin name is Kakarrotto if he's been trapped long before Goku was even born?
Ah. Perhaps he was a friend of the family.

Lol.

If the "Junior Novel" is accurate enough, there's a halfway-decent explanation of how and/or why Piccolo knows the name "Kakarrot" (which is, happy-to-Mike, how it was written in the book).

That doesn't mean there aren't a bagillion other plotholes, but at least that story point made sense to me.

I think people are dissapointed in that they wanted a more or less Live Action copy, not an adaptation.
Still, even if you like adaptations, you may not like how they have filmed the movies, done the action scenes ect. and then you can't watch the anime to fulfill that. Catch my drift?

Myself (yeah, here goes) I like adaptations, but I don't like the action scenes I have seen so far. They remind me of any kung-fu/fighting movie out there.
The movements in the clips are not "Dragonball-ish" as I see them.
If they wanted to make such a movie, I think that they are better off with doing an adaptation of the "Monkey King".
The cast can each play a character from there, and the ape-monster makes mor sense, and they can even throw in futuristic stuff in there and call it "The Legend of the Monkey King 2000" or "The Legend of the Monkey King, EVOLUTION!!!".
Dragonball is already an "evolution" of the Legend of the Monkey king.
They are just surfing on a big franchise there.
I don't think that you can make an evolution series of an evolution series.
Catch my drift?

He doesn't really look any different. Just a little paler green. I was actually wondering if old Daimao was really in the movie before this, but even if I'd seen him before, I wouldn't have been able to tell him apart from young Daimao. :P

I'm more interested in the clearness of Mai's cleavage.

That's not a bad Piccolo, though, and the presence of his ship is one of the things about the movie I genuinely like.

I really like how they kept Mai's bangs. I love that kind of haircut on women.

I always thought Mai was hot... er pretty... She wore a trench coat which you couldn't see her body, but I assume it was acceptable. Evolution Mai is smokin' though.

For no reason I made three avatars. Two are of stupid faces that made me laugh and the third is of old Piccolo. I don't know what the Hell is wrong with me!

Erm, during Oozaru Goku's rampage in early Dragonball, you could see her in her sleepwear. And when he blew everything up, you could see her breasts through her dress.
I know, you can't not call me pervert when I pay attention to those details.

Judging by their treatment of Baraka, oops, I mean, Deadpool in the Wolverine movie I'd say they need to try even harder still.

If that is in fact Deadpool, which I have heard it might not be and it might be some other Weapon XI character or something, I have to say that is the worst adaptation appearance ever! If people really want to see a fuck up far worse than anything in evolution, they need to look at those pics.
