Perhaps, but I guess in the end it's at the bottom of my list of cares regarding this movie.Daijuken wrote:But if they did that, then it would drown out the fun of DB. I actually laughed at Roshi when he put his hands on her ass. That was pretty funny. I really liked the scene where Goku meets Bulma. It wasn't exactly like the manga but it was still cool. He even called the Dragon Ball "Sushinchuu ". I can already tell that Roshi, Piccolo, and Bulma are gonna be the best characters in the movie. Chatwin is still a bit dull to me. Oh and that UK commercial was cool too. Looks like they've included beam struggles and battle aura too. If I wasn't excited before I am now.

I was more pleased by Yamucha's personality having been to some degree keptBura wrote:The clips also left a good impression on me. I was very happy to hear Capsule Corporation and see Bulma using her sexy tactics on Yamcha... I also liked it that Roshi touched Bulma's behind and that she made an angry comment about it.
Chatku hasn't convinced me yet though...
So it's out in Japan now, eh?Son Wukong wrote:World Premiere Photos
EDIT: It also appears there were live streams of the event that has now ended but there is still a short Japanese promo-trailer-thingy here.

I guess I liked the way she interacted with the other characters. For some reason I like sarcastic characters and that's how she came off to me. Out of all the clips I've seen so far Bulma, Roshi, and Piccolo stand out the most. Chatwin just isn't selling it (although for some reason I find his delivery funny when he's like "I don't know what you're talking about...") haven't seen anything from Mai, Chi-Chi is sure to annoy everyone, and I haven't seen anything with Yamcha yet.Gozar wrote:Roshi and Piccolo I see. But Bulma? How come? What makes you like her?

Watching the clips more, I'm disliking most of the acting even more so. It goes beyond simple over the top. Even in the normal speaking seens, the acting just isn't very good. Except for Marsters, I think his acting is actually very good.
She's far too out of character to me. Piccolo and Kame-sennin seem to be fairly well in character. I already had a feeling Piccolo would be pretty spot on. But I really thought they'd leave out Kame-sennin's perverted-ness. I'm happy to see I was wrong there.Chrono Trigger wrote:I guess I liked the way she interacted with the other characters. How exactly out of character? Do you mean as far as her overall motivation in the story (wanting to be famous) or is she just too dry and sarcastic? I also agree about Roshi and his perverted ways. It was cool that they threw in the magazine and ass grab. On another note I can't believe how hard people are being about this movie. It honestly doesn't look that bad. It's not even close to Chun-Li's levels of terrible or Super Mario Bros. At the least the movie will be entertaining.Gozar wrote:She's far too out of character to me. She's not as loud (Note, I am not using "Bitchy" as you'll see thrown over YouTube). Bulma's much more out there and loud. From what I've seen, she's not Bulma'ish.Chrono Trigger wrote:How exactly out of character? I have to agree about the acting comment, except I liked Yamucha too.Gozar wrote:Watching the clips more, I'm disliking most of the acting even more so. It goes beyond simple over the top. I found a website that claimed to have it, but it was a scam.
Yahoo!, MSN to Stream Japanese Premiere
The MSN and Yahoo! Japan websites are providing live footage of the events surrounding the world premiere of James Wong and 20th Century Fox's live-action Dragonball: Evolution film at the Nippon Budōkan event hall on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Japan time (4:30 a.m. EDT). Coverage from MSN can be viewed here and Yahoo! Japan's coverage can be viewed here. At least the MSN live footage stream is viewable from outside Japan; select the different "Cam" icons on the bottom to toggle between the red carpet views and the internal views.

I can't wait to see how these parts turn out:

Looks like two fighters are gonna collide in the first one, a beam struggle in the second, and Goku powering up in the last one.

None of the characters seem "spot on" to me, but some are closer than others.
A few of the more painful aspects of these clips are the "airbending", Chatku in general, Bulma having a "minor in tactical weaponry"(must.. resist.. Agent.. joke..), and just generally seeming too angry, and Roshi's mood swings and disturbing bout of laughter, which was pulled off with awful acting. Yun-fat's very obviously taken his Bulletproof Monk character and tried to stretch it even further and it's so not working.
Piccolo seems a bit too hands-on and something of a walking deus ex machina. Daimao spawned demons to take care of the dirty work, and this Piccolo being able to paralyze people, crush houses and dry lake beds with a twitch of his finger seems a bit lazy in the plot department.
And it's all wrapped in a gritty kind of setting which makes any attempt at levity and eccentric behavior seem really out of place.
