Your reaction was positive or negative? Personally, I think it sounds awesome.

I'm getting the feeling that a "Director's Cut" of the film would be a lot better. Sounds rushed, but in a way as if a lot of stuff was cut out.

Personally, I think it sounds awesome.
If that's the kind of 'twist' that does it for you, by all means, be excited. I remember being excited as a kid when Skeletor showed up after the credits of the Heman movie and we all know what a cornerstone of film-making that was.

The film had a chance to start over with a clean slate in the next one or at least attempt to create a film that had a closer semblance to the Z storyline fans are familiar with. This decision not only ruined that opportunity but actually sent whatever next installment awaits, several steps back.

Again, I'm not looking at this as Greg the DB Fan, I'm looking it as a fan of film who, oh yeah, happens to like Dragon Ball.
Sounds rushed
Very. It's in an attempt to introduce as many characters as possible, which I'm not sure why they did because that kind of thing should only be reserved for series fans. But the film obviously wasn't made to appeal to many series fans because of the choice to give DB a story with a theme beyond getting stronger, showing bravery and friendship.

As I said in the review, I simply have no idea who this film was intended for.

But, my tastes in film are obviously not universally shared.

There are people who actually like the vomitted ink on paper that is One Piece Movie 8 so...

For some reason I just laughed.

A twist like that is just so absurd I literally lol'd and had people asking why I was laughing.
I'm not happy with it by any means, but I find it funny. (Even though that's totally not the reaction the director was going for.)

Ahh....soup. XD

If this movie doesn't get a sequel, this would make for a terribly awkward cliffhanger.
On hiatus.

Wow, that ruins the idea of a sequel staying close to z.

omae no kaasan -- Thanks a ton for the review. I guess it's everything most of us feared. I'm most disappointed to hear that Piccolo was a let down. He was always what I thought would be the small silver lining in the movie. Let me as you...How was Muten Roshi over all? From the clips I've seen so far I thought he was half decent. Another question...Gun to your head, which character was portrayed the most faithfully?

Why? Piccolo could easily become a good guy and just skip over the Ma junior arc and just have Daimao and Ma Junior be the same person. I don't see the big deal at all.

Also the soundtrack was very enjoyable save for maybe one track. It felt like a cross between the X-men 3 and Spiderman 3 soundtracks.

I know, not the best movies in there respective series's, but that doesn't mean they didn't have good soundtracks.

Actually, I don't think it matters. For all we know they could just incorporate elements from the Sayan saga into the next potential movie. Petty much anything is possible. I can see them just having Gohan in the next movie fighting along side his father.

Easily? He just spent a whole movie blowing up towns, killing Grandfathers, and trying to take over the world.

And all it took was Gohan to change Piccolo's ways.

Seriously, though, this sounds pretty god awful. It's pretty much as I imagined it to be.

Also, I'm surprised there hasn't been a shitstorm over JAPPO's comment about the movie OST being better than the Japanese soundtrack.

How was Muten Roshi over all?
He was just fine. Chow Yun-Fat seems to have enjoyed playing his role AND he had the good fortune of having a character written that is somewhat faithful to the original.

However, I felt that Joon was doing the most to make his character closest to the source with respect to acting, the problem lies within how the writer(s) handled his character. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Gun to my head, overall Roshi was the most accurate because of the combination of how his character was written and his own acting skills. I felt that Joon worked the best to do with what little he had though which surprised me. I expected to write him off from the start.
Why? Piccolo could easily become a good guy and just skip over the Ma junior arc and just have Daimao and Ma Junior be the same person.
Yeah they could do that....oooooooooooooor they could have shown his spawn as a sign that, "Hey guys, give us one movie to establish the characters in a sloppy way, let us make some cash so we can get support for another one and give you guys the DB film you've been dreaming of."

This violates that from the get-go and shows us they'll be giving us more of the same.

Look.

Those of you rushing to the defense of the film.

There's nothing wrong with defending it. I myself wanted to remain relatively pure going into the experience which is why I avoided most of the finer pieces of news regarding plot developments. But there comes a time when you have to thrown down the guantlet and say,

"How they handled this series sucked."

That stinger was that moment.

I would highly suggest NONE of you take my word for it.

See the movie for yourself. Develop your own opinions, but the time for hemming and hawing is over for me.

Also, I am not rushing to defend the film. I don't see how Daimao becoming good and just replacing Piccolo Jr. is at all a problem. I mean I haven't seen the movie, but this makes sense to me.

It's because Daimao =/= Ma Jr.

Daimao was the pure evil side of Kami. Ma Jr. was a spawn made in the image of Daimao to carry out his wishes.

Fuck you, you were warned. I don't understand that ending at all, ONK. Piccolo is under a bed sheet waiting to be fed soup? Piccolo Jr. is waiting to be fed soup? This is a problem because Namekians don't eat? I don't undrstand what was going on in that scene as you described. Cannot even picture it in my head. Who the fuck is getting soup?

Um, they are the same. Unless we watched/read different things. Piccolo Jr. is basically the clone/reincarnation of Daimao. Daimao might have seemed more evil, but I think it is mainly because he really had no one to stand in his way. Once Goku defeated him, and Piccolo Jr. was born, he already knew of Goku, and sought revenge on him instead of just reaking havoc because he knew Goku would come for him. Piccolo was still evil until Raditz.

I'm not surprised that they skipped over Piccolo reincarnating himself. Actually I thought that was a given.

Oh yeah, is Kaiou mentioned at all in the film?

Maybe a human caring for him will show the error of his ways. He will become semi good, only wanting revenge on Goku, but then Raditz or whatever causes him to team with Goku. Makes sense to me.

Oh and one rantish thing if you'll allow it.

Ki has become some kind of amorphous fucking Lifestream bullshit, not the hard-edged throbbing raw power source we saw in the series.

B, in response to your question.

spoiler

I said spoiler.

It's just Piccolo Daimaou. He's just lying there under snuggy bedsheets being cared for by a woman whose village he destroyed. I'm waiting for a screen capture to become a meme it's so absurd.
