I agree with you Scarz. I only wish Chatku's acting was a bit better than Hayden Christensen's.

Oh Em Gee, I just watched the "Shen Long Summoning" again. That's just painful. Chatku has the presence of a cardboard cutout. It seriously reminds me of the scene from the "Ginyu Saga" where Kuririn tries to summon Porunga.

Yeah, I was talking to a friend of mine about that. We basically agreed that it seems to be the English equivalent of Porunga's summoning incantation.

I also can't imagine Goku saying the word "compel." It's just not Goku-ish. Neither is calling Roshi by the name "Muten Roshi." Where's the lovable "Old Timer" name he uses on the turtle hermit?

Hell, the whole Shenlong scene was backwards.

The incantation was long and Shenlong's appearance was short. It's supposed to be the other way around. But then again, my guess is that they were basically running low on their budget by this point of the film. Shenlong didn't talk, he was drastically small, his entire body was gold and he didn't even make his eyes glow to signify he granted the wish. It looked more like he ran away when Goku made his wish.

Oh, I forgot to mention that evil characters change sides all the time in DBZ. Seriously, Piccolo, Vegeta, Fat Buu. Vegeta and Fat Buu both slaughtered countless people, blew up cities, murdered NUMEROUS GRANDFATHERS, and tried to take over the world, and yet became good guys, so suck it!
Yes, I should 'suck it' for having such an amatuerish opinion of the series. How shallow of me to take a mature approach to evaluating the film and assume things like continuity as a reward for fans.

Heh man, I was responding to someone else's post, not to mention I am clearly joking.

Also, I don't see the big deal about making the two characters one, and no one has yet to give me a decent counter argument other then "Daimao was evil".
The manga/anime cleary says Junior and Demon King Piccolo are seperate beings.

And while Jr. is a reincarnation of Daimao, it still doesn't mean they're one in the same.

Otherwise we would have to say that Oob is the original Boo.

Huh, I swear IMDB said something about Chris Sabat being the voice of Shen Long in the movie, but he doesn't speak at all in that clip.

Then again, IMDB is never really right before movies come out.

It was a fake. One of the other staff members of FUNi had said in their blog they hadn't heard anything from Chris about such a thing. Shoulda been obvious with his position on just sitting back and watching how it handles since he and FUNi have nothing to do with it, whether it fails or does well.

Does IMDB ever get anything right? Even if it does, the amount it gets wrong makes it hard to reference them for anything.

I will say I did feel some emotion at the very beginning of the clip when they are just looking at Roshi dead. I imagined the real Goku in such a situation and it brought a tear to my eye. My eyes quickly dried up with the out of character and poorly acted summoning and wish.

First of all thanks omae no kaasan for the in depth review!

The rest of this post contains spoilers and moderate language. Viewer discretion is advised. I've always hated that. Shouldn't viewers always use discretion? Anyways on to the show!

It appears that this movie is every bit as faithful as I'd thought it would be. I'm terribly disappointed in this film. I watched the two minute summoning of Shenlong video posted earlier in the thread and all the other scenes that have cropped up in the last couple weeks. I'm almost at a total loss. What the hell was that? "DRAGON the test of seven has been fulfilled! I compel you come forth and grand my wish!" The test of seven?! What the fuck? What in the world is the test of seven?! Collecting the Dragonballs? Knitting seven perfect sweaters? Answering several trivia questions from seven small snakes? That is totally infuriating. Why couldn't they just say Dragon come out and grant my wish? Instead they have to make it into some sort of sacred ritual or test needlessly complicating things all around. Ugh. I hate poor adaptations.

I've said it once and I'll say it again this movie is exactly the same as Super Mario Brothers the movie and Street Fighter the movie, an abysmal attempt at adapting a cool concept and failing miserably every step of the way.

And about the whole Piccolo Daimaou and Ma Jr. thing. They aren't the same guy no matter how you come at it. The first thing that Ma Jr. says after being born, if memory serves, is that he will get vengeance for his father. The father being Piccolo Daimaou.

Whew. Feels good to let it all out.

AAAAAAAHHHHH

Seriously, that is just gross. The way they summon him in the actual series is normally a bit over the top, but this is just ridiculously lame. It's not cool at all, so I'm wondering if they want to be ridiculously cheesy.

This scene was terrible, no question. I don't have high hopes for the movie (though I still want to see it) and it's not even because of the changes they made from the manga; it's just because it looks bad so far. I held off this long to say this because I didn't want to be a person who rants about a movie from only pictures and rumors, but yeah. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. Still excited to see it though, just because it's Dragon Ball related (inb4 everyone says 'barely', har har, very witty).

But uh...I think the 'test of seven' thing is pretty obvious (considering the whole movie is about it), even if it does come off as lame. And collecting all 7 dragon balls always was meant to be a test, wasn't it? That's the whole point in there being 7 of them.

I don't know why everyone is so upset because of the Shenlong scene.
Really, what did you expect when they didn't even get the Kamehameha move right, although it is probably the best known move from the whole manga?

I personally don't hold ANY high expectations for this movie, so I am not disappointed by any scene...
And who knows, maybe I will like this movie or at least I'll have enough to laugh about :)

Urgh... seriously, ugh.

I had a feeling this movie was going to be bad, but kept hope around until it came out.

These clips and descriptions are absolutely TERRIBLE.

I'm going to see it with my roomate still, just to laugh at it, but God.

Yeah, and what's your point?

People are completely ignoring the fact that I am talking about the movieverse. In this Dragonball Movieverse I believe it would be perfectly acceptable to make Daimao and Jr. the same person. Is it that confusing to you people? That is all I am saying. Should they have had him spit up the egg or whatever, yeah of course they should have, but with the ground work and precedent they have placed forth, the concept of Daimao and Jr. just being one character is fine, especially considering they are probably just rushing to make a movie about Vegeta/Super Saiyans, cause that what it appears the mass audience want's anyway. We really don't need another film with Piccolo as the villain(Unless he is a villain at the start but then becomes good to fight the Saiyans, yuh know, like the anime). I am fine with Daimao becoming Good Piccolo, especially if Kami is never brought in. Makes sense to me.

The clips I have seen look poor to say the least. Chatwin makes Hayden Christensen seem worthy of an oscar. I guess the one good thing about it, is how truly terrible it appears to be.
Is DBE the novelty film of 2009?
