Eh, if you say so...
I'm sure in the coming weeks someone will find a more eloquent way of expressing how awful the movie is.
Maybe it's distasteful to make lewd references to cupping balls in his review. Maybe it was quite appropriate.
Regardless of whether or not you liked his choice of words, it's a review from an experienced source familiar with the subject matter and an opinion worth noting for anyone who's looking for reviews to take note of.

I suggest everyone see "The brown bunny" or "Manos: Hands of Fate" so you know what an actually awful film is. I am getting really tired of people throwing around words like awful, terrible, worst movie ever, when they clearly don't know what they are talking about. I know that it's just an opinion, but those opinions are wrong.
The difference between something like Manos, and DBE is: millions of dollars, professional cast & crew, and a major Hollywood production. I think it's fair to be a little more harsh towards a bad painting from a professional artist, than towards a crappy finger painting done by a 5-year-old.omegacwa wrote:I suggest everyone see "The brown bunny" or "Manos: Hands of Fate" so you know what an actually awful film is. Since I do not have a mind of my own I am glad that they are around to provide me with reviews so I can know how to feel about the movie.MisterFlashdude wrote:...In other news, DBE's wikipedia page finally decided there was a review worth citing, and it's pretty harsh.

I'll skip over your issues with other's opinions and the subsequent lecture on the value of appreciating perspectives other than your own and move on to the second jab.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Since I do not have a mind of my own I am glad that they are around to provide me with reviews so I can know how to feel about the movie.Seriously, that review is really, I mean really “opinionated”.
What the hell else is a review supposed to be? If it wasn't opinionated it'd just be a description, not a review... The whole point of it is to get someone's opinion. Seriously, if things like other points of view and reviews upset you, the last place you should be is in a discussion thread for the movie on a forum...
Edit: I'll preemptively clarify that the reason I posted that review, which happens to have a similarly negative opinion to mine, is because that's the first and only legitimate review cited on the wiki page and thought it was worth mentioning.

I will answer with the following quote that gets to the heart of the issue.MisterFlashdude wrote:I'll skip over your issues with other's opinions and the subsequent lecture on the value of appreciating perspectives other than your own and move on to the second jab.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Since I do not have a mind of my own I am glad that they are around to provide me with reviews so I can know how to feel about the movie.Seriously, that review is really, I mean really “opinionated”.

The so-called reviews that have been floating around have used terms that do not fit the movie. I would call that hardly professional but extreme exaggeration.omegacwa wrote:I suggest everyone see "The brown bunny" or "Manos: Hands of Fate" so you know what an actually awful film is. I disagree.
Bad acting, nonsensical/rushed plot, unimpressive effects and just a bad attempt at bringing Dragonball to life. I think it deserves every "bad", "awful" and "terrible" it gets.
Just because you can cite something worse doesn't make Dragonball any less bad. When you take the amount of money and the year it's made into account, it's awful.
If it were 15 years ago, this would be Super Mario Bros. A big budget Hollywood attempt to cash in on a popular franchise by throwing more money than effort at it.
It may be great by 1960 standards, sitting next to "Manos", but now...
Bad. Awful. Terrible.
Though, "worst movie ever" is just useless exaggeration.
Hindsight edit: Y'kno, it occurs to me we're debating on whether this movie is mediocre or awful and that just seems sad to me. Here's my white flag. Goodnight.

I don't see how when a movie is made should make it any less a victim of criticism when compared to newer films. Some of the greatest films were made back then. Special effects shouldn't effect a rating unless they are truly horrible, which DB:E's certainly aren't.MisterFlashdude wrote:I disagree.

Also I found this clip and it reminded me of DB a lot.

Why are they done like it's a High School TV Dramey?!
Okay, saw it. I would like to note that I think I have been completely unbiased with this movie, and have never really been swayed one way or another for it until now after seeing it, which I believe is evident in my posts throughout this topic. Beware of spoilers.
SUPER AWESOME REVIEW OF TECHNICOLOR DREAMS
-The movie is bad. Laughably bad. I cannot stop chuckling.
-The acting is really campy, which in a way, helped me enjoy the film. When it was trying to be funny, it was funny. Whn it wasn't trying to be funny, it was STILL funny.
-Like people have been saying, the pacing is pretty bad. You go straight from one thing to the next, with no sense of taking it all in on your part. It's not that it's hard to follow, but it's a little frustrating. Also, as a result of the pacing, there are loose ends left untouched. Who is Siffu Norris? What is Mai doing with Piccolo? How did Piccolo escape? How does Chi-Chi know about ki? Where the fuck did Yamcha come from?
-Everything up until, what I can only assume was the movie's adaptation of the Strongest Under the Heavens Tournament is absolutely hilarious, thanks to the campy acting and pacing. The fact that almost no one is in character is hardly on your mind, you're just going "oh how stupid!"
-Goku is nowhere near as emo and dejected as the trailers have shown him to be. He is more of a cocky horny teenager than anything, which while not the Goku we know, is a bit better than a crybaby. Although, you have to ask yourself if he should've been a little more sad because of his grandfather dying. The REAL Goku would probably take the death in stride, but Chatku probably should've been less upbeat, as he is portrayed as a completely different person. The fact he IS acting like the original Goku doesn't really fit here.
-Once we get to the tournament, the rest of the movie is a snorefest. It's no longer being campy and it's just too hard to take everything seriously.
-The SFX were fine, I don't know what some of you were talking about.
-Yamcha is the worst thing about this movie, so thank your deity of choice he doesn't have very many lines. He's so fucking annoying. At least while the others weren't very much in character, their "new" personas weren't unlikeable idiots like this d-bag.
-Action scenes are weaksauce. The girlfights should've given me more skin(just my preference, I know, this is Dragon Ball) and Goku VS Piccolo... was literally a fucking slapfight. Oozaru seemed pointless as well. The best fight was at Chi-Chi's party, if not for the hilarity of watching Geeko smack down some pricks. Probably the most "Goku" part of Chatwin's performance; he was having fun while easily taking out some thugs.
-The "test of seven" speech seemed so out of place, and it wasn't brought up earlier in the film. Why the hell is Goku shouting this?
-The ending sucked. Slo-mo fighting between Goku and Chi-Chi, then cut to credits.
For giving me some solid laughs, but overall failing in what it was actually supposed to do, I give it a 1.5/5. I sincerely hope we get sequels, as this had so much potential, looking at it from the way Piccolo is handled.

"JUST AN ORDINARY KID!" makes me want to kick a cat.
In relation to the advertisements; is YouTube's audio being weird for anyone here too?
I tried to watch the ads and I can't hear the volume. Same goes for ANY YouTube video I watch.
Speakers are working fine (audio on all other websites work) and my mp3's play normally. YouTube worked fine a couple hours ago and I haven't tweaked any audio settings since then.
EDIT: Nevermind, YouTube magically fixed itself or something. o_O
