Dragonball Ep 1-13 DVDs

Post by Boomer2k4 » Wed Nov 17, 2004 7:20 pm

Hi Guys, first posting

Just thought I'd ask whether the Funimation version of these DVDs has been released in the States yet.

Due to a combination of complete flukes (an accidental multi-regional DVD player and random DVD-finding surfing to Aussie-ville) I have managed to acquire a region 4 version of the first 13 eps uncut and with Fuinimation dubbing (With japanese dub and eng sub etc...like on any other Funi DVD)

I understand that the first 13 eps were delayed due to a similar problem which has plagued the first 60-odd DBZ episodes but I can't imagine it would be released in Australia before America or the UK, but the evidence was there at the time, no luck with Amazon/Play or anyone over here but the Aussies had it spot on (and it was still cheaper ordering from there than buying the Pioneer/whatever-they're called-now version here even counting import tax if it got caught!!!)

Hope you can shed some light on this matter and I apologise if it has been answered before (only looked at the first page of forum and at what's been said on the website including the "Newbie's Guide")

Better end rambling now :D

Thanks

Andrew

Sub licensing issues with Trimark prevent them from releasing the first arc in the states. I think.

The UK has no DBZ releases (apart from 3 crappy movie dubs)
Where's the beef?

Thanks

Tell me about the lack of DBZ releases...having to get them from 12,000 miles away with foreign region-coding isn't really the best.

Ah well as long as I bulk order (tend to order 2 DB arcs with a larger arc if it's come out like Kenshin) it's generally worth it.

Still a pain though :(

You know, I haven't heard anything about the license for these episodes in at least two years. Going by convention reports, it doesn't seem to get mentioned or asked about at FUNimation panels. It's rather weird that there's been no news at all, even with all the talk about the Pioneer/Geneon license ending, and Madman's release. :?

I'm going to try emailing FUNimation about it, as well as the first two movies. If anyone else wants to do the same, go for it, and maybe we can show there's enough interest.

All I can tell you is the following I've taken directly from the DVD itself

The Funimation license is dated 2004 (so fairly recent) but that's the same for all the DB DVDs

It IS a Madman version (and AV Channel). Confusing with Global DVD trade the way it is why Madman and AV would be allowed to release it in Australia and sales in the US would be blocked.

Multi-regional DVD players are not that hard to come by, hell even Region X for the PS2 will do in a pinch, so seems like an awful lot of bother when people can just wait an extra couple of days (they only took 3-7 days when arriving from Australia to the UK) and get perfectly fine (if region 4) versions.

The only problem being that Australia is somewhat behind the States sometimes for DVD releases (Although this time it's got the jump) but hey it keeps my credit card from exploding in my face so that makes me a little happier.

Just a thought
