it's a manga drawn by an artist who knows Toriyama and is able to draw like him. This person drew a manga based on the Special.
Well, I don't like it. I think they all look odd. But hey, if you guys like it then whatever. Personally I think Mr.Announcer could have done a way better job on this.

Toriyama says that Ooishi understands DragonBall very well, and that she knows about 1000 times more about DragonBall than he does, him having forgotten most of DB’s story and all. He thinks that due to her manga skills, this adaptation is better than the original short. He also says that since he’s probably not going to draw any more DB manga himself, this is the only place you’ll see anything new.

Ooishi says that she’s loved DragonBall since she was a child, and getting to draw it herself was like a dream. Being able to show Toriyama her storyboards and get his advice made her due her very best drawing this manga.
As always, that's pretty accurate translation.
Someone hypnotize Toriyama to make him want to draw new DB manga :(

I think his urge not to is too strong. Like how you can't hypnotize someone to kill themselves.

Hypnotizing's stronger than you believe! But erhm, back to the topic. I just viewed this manga, and I have to agree, the characters look off, especially Piccolo.

Use WinRAR to open .RAR files, you can get it for free at www.download.com

Well I can't read Japanese, but the pictures look great. I actually like this artwork better than the special itself, because it looks a lot more accurate to the original style, though it still looks new and fresh. The special was a bit too shiny for my taste (The SSJ hair especially..), and it didn't really look like DB.. This is great though, thanks Kei17

Thanks a bunch, kei17! I'm confused by the cover, though. The staples in the front/back cover make it look like this is a stand-alone book, but I thought it was published in one of those big manga compilation magazines. Was it just inserted in the magazine?

Very nice! Thanks a ton for that, Kei!

I must say that the mangaka does a good job [not perfect, but good] of replicating Toriyama's style with the exception of the female characters. Those are very noticeably "off". Not only that, but Table just looks odd. Great manga altogether, can;t wait for part 2!

I wonder if I handed this off to a certain subbing group I particularly like, they would scanlate it...

Gonna try it.

Their rules for requesting new material to sub/scanlate:

1: good quality RAWs of the entire series.(which shouldn't be a problem. Kei will most likely put the second half up when it comes out.)
2: A translator already interested.(Herms? Kei? I could ask one of their regulars as well.)
3: Willingness on the requestee's part to QC.(Quality control, though I have no idea how I am supposed to do that.)

Once I get #3 squared away, I will actually ask.

As for the manga itself, it looks very nice. Tenshinhan looks awful in my opinion, as his normal eyes look fucked up, but since he is in the background the whole time, I can live with it. Trunks's hair looks noticeably different, but in a good way. Everyone else looks the same to me, really.

It looks quite good, considering it is not drawn by Toriyama.

Lunch has her hair bow, wich she lacks in the anime version. And she has finally found Tenshinhan. #18's line about sensing ki is also gone.

Why don't we make a "daizex-subbing" group?
The "raw" doesn't really need cleaning that bad... It looks like it's some very white paper and kei scanned it good.
So should be doable..
(Pretty easy for me to suggest because I don't speak japanese, but...)

"Subbing" is a wrong term to use when it comes to scanlating manga. It is a term used when putting subtitles on video. There's already a kind of "daizex subbing group", btw. It didn't work out too great, but we finished the Nippon Ijin Taisho special. It got released under the Kanzentai tag.

I know, But "subbing" was used in the post above mine.

Many thanks, kei! Ooishi did a great job of adapting Toriyama's style to her own, and I love the Ooishi-Bot.

I almost wish that last page would be the end of the special manga adaptation. Goten & Trunks dealing with the "absurdly strong" Abo & Cade with one punch would be hilarious, and it has that early DB gag manga feel.

But I'm glad part two is coming; more new DB for me. :D

*Tee-hee-hee* Tenshinhan, Chaotzu, and Lunch! (Well kinda, I had to squint to find her)

Thanks kei17.

Who says a translation isn't being worked on internally...?
