Don't you just hate it when people think DB is for kids...

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

With the Fist of the North Star thing, another example of cultural difference. Kinda like how Michelangelo kicking Foot Soldier ass and taking names was no big deal in the States but edited in European countries. (Apparently, they had issues about nunchucks over there).

Don't forget they were known as the "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" instead.

To this day, the UK theme song sounds more natural to me than the US one.

Just listend to it. Sounds like the word "hero" is badly inserted in it. And is it me, or does anyone else find it funny that it had no problem with showing lethal weapons like swords, sais, and Shredder's blades, but it kept cutting whenever nunchucks which aren't as deadly were shown?

That may be, but it sounds right to me because I grew up with it.

And for those of us in the US, it sounds really akward. xD

Oh, I can imagine. That's my point, really. It's quite funny when you think about it.

Not to be a dick guys but I'm surprised this is still an issue.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Dragon Ball rate +13 (I think)
and I first seen the arabic dub when I was a kid like all my friends and the arabic dub rate is +3 coz they removed every singel thing in the show and made the characters do the hit or the move 10000 time so they can get the lost time from the cutting

so all my friends (we are about 16) thinks that DBZ is a kids show and no one can blame them, and to be honest they always make fun of me when they remember that I'm still a fan until now.
 :?
but yeah I gess DBZ time is over

That Elfen Lied post reminded me that some guys from Adult Swim wanted to air that series, but then decided against it because standards would have had to alter it heavily. Even for AS, so much be really something.

Like what I said in the "Black Brick" review. Venus gone bad ever sense the Pokemon era in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I think it was descriped as "tearing it to shreds" in order to air it on AS.

Speaking of Adult Swim, how would you gaiz react to Dragon Ball or DBZ being aired uncut on Adult Swim? I'm guessing it would only further this stupid arguement about who it's meant for, right?

Blood and guts I can deal with.. But Elfen Leid is the only anime that ever made me cringe, specifically because all the dismemberment is happening to females. I love watching demons and even humans get ripped to shreds, but when it's a female, all bets are off.. Guess I'm just weird

I would love for DBZ to be airing on TV again, ESPECIALLY uncut. That would be great. It would still be a kids show, but more people in the older audience of Adult Swim (assuming it would be aired on AS, as that's most likely) would appreciate it, and it may draw in more fans who never cared for the cut down and edited version.

DBZ isn't adult enough for Adult Swim. Also granted the guys who run it are pushing anime away because they don't like it competing with their shows made of random idiocy.
