It made $10.1 (rounded) million last/opening weekend. This weekend it made $3.6 million. That accounts for the reported 62.8% (66%? Where'd you get that?) drop. Keep in mind, this doesn't include showings during the week (which would comprise the additional $2.8 million), but...damn. That's a really bad drop.JAPPO wrote:http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... onball.htm
Wait, it's at $16,500,000 in its second week? How is that a 66% drop?

In the original, Nurse Joy spoke about how animals will attack anything invading their territory until they drive them away, even if it results in death. Mewtwo pushed his clones on to fight the originals to prove they deserved to exist and that clones were not inferior to the originals.B wrote:It's been awhile since I popped in Movie 1, but weren't the Pokemon just senselessly fighting, and that's wrong by Ash's/Satoshi's opinion as battles are different because it's for sport? There seemed to be no point in the clone battles, they were just doing it because Mewtwo told them to.
Satoshi didn't want anyone dying to begin with and wanted them all to stop.
Meanwhile, in the dub, Nurse Joy speaks about how "Pokemon shouldn't fight...not like this", which basically disregards the fact that Pokemon are treated as animals in their world and that they DO fight like that in the wild. Ash, on the other hand, just sees all of this as senseless fighting while some really bad tune comes up about how they shouldn't be fighting.
Sorry to jump off topic, but I had to clear that bit up.

Yes. It's a figure of speech.Olivier Hague wrote:Well, Wikipedia, like MisterFlashdude said. And yes, that's what I thought you meant by "they"...Pain wrote:When I said "they", I meant the Dragonball Wikia. And he had posted a link to the review that the wikia used.
You do realize "they" are not a committee or anything like that, yes?

Well, if it means anything, Watchmen had similarly terrible drop from 55.6 million to 17.5 million or something like that.MajinVejitaXV wrote:It made $10.1 (rounded) million last/opening weekend. Well movies will obviously do their best when first released. You can't expect a movie to make 50 million every week.

So you're saying that I put extreme thought into that comment and left a whole mystery behind it? I know who mentioned the review. I just referred to that contributor to Wikipedia(Which I mistook for somebody posting information on Wikia) as "they". Nothing special.Olivier Hague wrote:It was apparently a bit more than that, as you said "They'd obviously choose that one."Pain wrote:Yes. How is it "obvious" when you don't even know who mentioned that review in the article?

If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
I am really disturbed by how passionately against this film most people are. I was just surfing the IMDB and it seems that there is a large group of fans that are petitioning people on IMDB, and other Message boards to come to IMDB and vote 1, even if they haven't seen the film! And apparently it's working. They are attempting to get it to be the lowest rated movie on IMDB.
Why you say? Not because the movie is "bad" but just because it isn't Dragonball. Almost every review on there is beyond biased to the extreme. It is really a sad state of affairs.
Sure, the movie isn't great. I'll admit that. but it certainly doesn't deserve the treatment it is getting, and the fact that people are turning on James Marsters, calling him a liar and sell out is even more ridiculous. I had no idea DB fans were this brutal, and I feel slightly irked that I am apart of a fandom that can be so relentlessly cruel. (Daizex excluded, most of you guys are cool)
Now, as I said, the movie certainly isn't great, but it's far from the worst movie I have ever seen. On the whole scale of things, it fall in the middle. Not great, not terrible, just mediocre and somewhat disappointing(I find it hard to be completely disappointed because I knew what I was getting ahead of time). On IMDB's scale, it should probably land at around a 5, but because of this hater outrage, it will probably end up below The Magic Begins, what a sad state of affairs indeed.

The topic was how much the gross receipts had declined. I'm not sure why you're posting final totals, especially from two movies from many years ago (including Hulk, which was called a financial disaster by Avi Arad, the producer). You're not accounting for inflation either, which makes the point a bit moot aside from being out of left field.JAPPO wrote:Well if you look at other films
Welcome to the internet. It's a horrible movie, but it's not the worst of all time. Thing is, especially in internet fan communities, you're bound to have a powerful lack of intelligence. DragonBall is no exception.omegacwa wrote:I am really disturbed by how passionately against this film most people are.

I've seen how immature the fandom is through following the movie, and I too feel ashamed to be a part of it sometimes.omegacwa wrote:I am really disturbed by how passionately against this film most people are. It's like a bunch of 20 year olds who never stopped being whiny 9-year-old brats. It's definitely worse than most fandoms I've seen.
But there's nothing we can do but ignore it. They outnumber the mature fans by a lot.

I agree. I expect the hardcore fans to be upset, but I wait to see what the casual fans and non fans' reactions, but those have been just as badMajinVejitaXV wrote:The topic was how much the gross receipts had declined.
