The Most Hopeless Moment of the Series

Post by Kroni_Hunter » Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:40 am

So what do you think it is? For me, it was when Goku was getting the snot kicked out of him by 50% Frieza. Then the Genki Dama failed and Frieza proceeds to kill Pic and Krillin. In the few seconds before Goku goes SSJ, I think that was the single most hopeless instance in the series.

The most hopeless moment I can remember was when Goku first fought King Piccolo. Up until that point I thought he was invincible. It was really surprising to see him get beaten. Especially by someone so old. Then Roshi died, Choutzu died, Krillin was dead, Piccolo's youth was restored - then he killed Shenron. My jaw dropped, I was like, "What the fuck are they going to do now?"

After that I figured that they would always find something to get themselves out of their wacky predicaments and I was never really surprised. But that first time really caught me off guard.

Vegeta going cowardly in the first Brolley movie. It takes him the majority of the movie to finally get his act together whilst his son, and a young kid are getting the pummeling of thier lives.

This was just a pretty hopeless moment for me, It was sort of irritating to the point of me screaming at the Television.

Pretty much falls among these lines for me in the three series'...

Dragon Ball - Piccolo Daimao taking over Earth

Kuririn is dead, Roshi is dead, Chaozu is dead, Shenlong and the Dragon Balls are no more, Goku is assumed to have been killed and Tenshinhan has very little hope of actually defeating Daimao, let alone being able to take on Drum during their fight. This felt like an incredibly hopeless scenario as the heroes were pretty much done for and the idea of using the Dragon Balls to bring them back went out the window due to Daimao having killed Shenlong.

Dragon Ball Z - Trunks' time

Talk about almost completely hopeless. Goku dies from a heart disease, the Artificial Humans awaken and kill off nearly the entire group, save for Gohan and Roshi. With Piccolo's death, the Dragon Balls are also gone. The thought of going to new Namek for the Dragon Balls is never thought of due to Goku being dead. Years go on and the Earth's population has been reduced to being less than half of what it originally was. Gohan eventually trains Trunks but soon dies against the Artificial Humans. There is no one left to fight them, except for Trunks. He soon learns that even he is incapable of taking the two on and has to resort to going into the past to either fix the past or bring Goku with him to stop the two.

Dragon Ball GT - The fight with Yi Xing Long

Gogeta's Fusion time wears off. As Goku and Vegeta attempt to fuse again, Goku reverts back to his original child form due to not having enough energy to maintain the Super Saiyan 4 form. Vegeta encounters the same problem as well. Goku is eventually hit hard by an attack meant for Vegeta, which leads everyone (including the viewers) to believe he has died. Gohan, Goten and Trunks jump in to aid Vegeta, only to all fall. Not even Oob, who recently merged with Majin Boo, can do a thing to Yi Xing Long. Earth is being destroyed by the minus energy created by Yi Xing Long. Everyone continues to try, but only fails and are nearly killed, especially Vegeta who's should is impaled by Yi Xing Long's Dragon Thunder attack. It's then when Vegeta hits the ground, looks into the crater below him, and laughs, realizing that Yi Xing Long has officially just lost.

Pretty much any moment you can think of in the Buu Saga.

Seriously, if it wasn't a shounen, you really could believe the good guys would've lost.

When Goku is fighting Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga. Everyone is dead minus Krillin, Gohan, and Yajirobe, and once Vegeta goes Oozaru, and breaks Goku's legs. Goku's laying there on the ground in agony, and he blasts Vegeta in the eye. This line isn't intact in the dub (not sure about the Jap version), but in the manga Goku says "Just call it something to remember me by. I can't fight anymore, you can do what you want to me." And Vegeta proceeds to pick up Goku and begin crushing all of the bones in his body while Goku just takes it, screaming in pain, all the while Vegeta is talking trash saying things like "This is what you get for what you did to me".

Yeah, Goku, you piece of shit. This is what you get for standing up for your friends and trying to save the world, you're gonna get tortured until you die, then this guy's gonna kill everyone you know and sell your planet. Krillin and Gohan even come back, but Vegeta easily stops them from interfering. This is easily the most helpless situation (IMO), until Yajirobe steps in. But who was honestly expecting that? I sure as hell wasn't.

When Cell is powering up his "final" Kamehameha things seemed really hopeless. Gohan has been crippled and there weren't any senzu beans left, Trunks is dead, Goku is dead, Vegeta just got owned by Cell, and even Piccolo curses the fact that there is truly nothing they can do to stop Cell. Not only that but Gohan had apparently lost his will to fight and accepted that he had failed and the planet was doomed.

I just think about the moments after Freeza is "killed" by Goku, and Goku is looking for a way off of the planet. Up until the next episode, of course, we assume he's died, but those moments when the planet is about to explode and he is desperate to find a way out, I was tense, wondering whether or not he'd be able to make it before the planet exploded.

All those times were kind of bad, Piccollo Daimao killing Shenron and all that, but when picking an actual pinch situation I would go for Freeza transforming against Gohan, Kuririn and Vegeta, I really did think they were fucked, especially Kuririn, fuck knows how any of them managed to survive, but in DB where there's a will there's a way.

Hmm... I would say the Ginyu Force battle is one of the most hopeless moments. Because, when you think about it. Piccolo, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Chaozu are all still dead. Krillin and Vegeta are down and out, and Gohan's neck is broken. If Goku had arrived just a few minutes later, everyone probably would have been dead.

When Vegeta starts crying at being beaten by Freeza, and there's that narration over it, and he gets smacked to the ground...

I really didn't know if Goku would get there in time.

Definitely the moment Piccolo discovers the depths of Buu's regeneration technique. I remember myself thinking "how the fuck could they ever get outta this one??" I seriously wondered how such a being could ever be destroyed... the spirit bomb was kind of a bummer if you ask me. It's not a different order of technique, it isn't even a new one... I hoped that they would find a creative way of stopping Buu.

Perhaps blowing him into a black hole would help, or into the heart of a sun. Or while they were inside him to discover the workings of his body.
It's all GOOD

Okay, we get it - you don't like Gohan. Can you stop beating it into the ground now? Because it's getting old.

Anyway, I'd have to say when Goku is stuck on Planet Namek. His spaceship's too far, Frieza's spaceship is busted, and he's just completely fucked.

It's annoying after the 10 billionth time, plus the fact that Gohan going SSJ2 is the reason I got into the DBZ.

Definitely when Kuririn, Roshi, Chaozu, Shenlong, and many humans were killed by Piccolo Daimao, PLUS Goku was too weak to do anything about it.

That was more hopeless than the Freeza Saga when Kuririn and Piccolo died, because in the same episode Goku turned Super Saiyajin.

As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with Rocketman, even though that I am a Gohan fanboy.

Gohan wasn't in any place near to be able to handle the hero task by himself.
Until the very end of the battle against Cell he still was highly dependent on his father.
He clearly showed that even if his father was gone, he was unable to defend Earth, even though he was the strongest fighter there.

Hell, Goten or Trunks would have done a better job, like when their fusion ended (because of pure stupidity) and they were left to fight Buu in their weak SSJ forms together with Piccolo.
At least they were going to try to fight, whilst Gohan, being older than them, gave up in his battle against Cell.
Gohan had lost his father, and Goten and Trunks had lost everyone but Piccolo, at least as far as they knew.
No more time for Daizex. Goodbye folks!

DEFINITELY the Vegeta/Goku fight for me.

Daimao killed Shenlong? Well Nappa killed Piccolo, which in turn killed Kami, which also in turn killed Shenlong. No reincarnation there either, and in fact no God to bring the Dragon Balls back.

Who was alive? Kuririn, Gohan, and Yajirobe.

Vegeta was crushing Goku. Even if he wasn't a giant monkey with insane strength, he could kill Goku while barely paying attention to the task.

Of all the villians, Vegeta is the only one that was beaten by PURE CHANCE, because there was absolutely no hope of defeating him normally. That's why that's the most hopeless moment in all of Dragon Ball.
