I watched that this evening. There's no way DBE can be worse than that. I mean it looks horrible, and the junior novel was bad, but it simply can't be worse than MKA.Bussani wrote:Not that I'm denying that Dragon Ball Evolution is bad (still haven't seen it), but Mortal Kombat Annihilation? I've seen Chun-Li, and seen enough of DragonBall Evolution to compare the two.Victator Supreme wrote:I seriously doubt that.JAPPO wrote:No... Legend of Chun Li is much worse.

Irreversible would have possibly made you physically ill. =PJAPPO wrote:Physically ill? No movie has ever made me "physically ill" and believe me I've seen far, FAR worse than DB:E.
Do you watch a lot of films?
Garbage Pail Kids is a movie far worse than DB:E, so is Battlefield Earth, and the CG shitfest that is Dominator, but I digress.
I'm not ready for this.
The movie was being unintentionally funny very clearly throughout good parts of the movie. I admit, I laughed at the humor they WERE trying to portray, but their serious moments really played up the humor factor. Don't sit there and tell me the first scene where "Rule" plays and "Geeko" is being bullied was actually planned to be humorous.JAPPO wrote:How exactly is this an insult? The movie had very intentional comedic moments and cheesiness.B wrote:I agree, best comedy of 2009, hands down.UMMX wrote:Okay I just watch Dragonball Evolution and it was good movie, that's it folks.
You think your laughing at it, but your not.
I really don't care if it's a kids' movie or not, it's a bad film. But chin up! The staggering amount of bad movies in the history of cinema is so large, DBE is really just another name on that list. It's not so horrible to the point it stands out from any other bad movie, if that makes pro-movie fans any happier. Making excuses like "it's for kids" does not justify the problems with the film. I've reserved harsh judgment until I saw it, and I have, and it was shit. =/

The "it's for kids" excuse is an umbrella term I find, that simply means "we made this movie aimed at children because they will be making us a profit, thus, we have put out a half-hearted effort and the movie will be remembered anyway for obvious reasons". I'd like to see this movie just so I can think to myself what I could have done to make it better.
So far I'm only annoyed by the "air-bending" shit.

Oh, It's you again, to turn my words around.Olivier Hague wrote:Er... I wouldn't expect a "serious movie for adults".omegacwa wrote:Well, it certainly is pretty good for a stupid Americanized kid's movie version of Dragonball.
But as a serious Dragonball movie for adults it isn't good. To bad everyone thinks it's the latter when it really is the former.
But "pretty good for a stupid Americanized kid's movie version"? That simply does not sound good at all to me. Or you could say "as far as shit goes, this turd is actually not that bad".
Look, all I am saying is that If i saw this as a kid I would have loved it, and that's the whole point of the movie. The movie is aimed at kids who have seen little or none of the original anime. Honestly this movie could end up being a catalyst for a whole new generation of fans to get into the anime, I know that might be wishful thinking but you get where I am coming from.
Most of the negative reviews are coming from soured fanboys who are giving the movie a 1 just because. Sure the movie isn't great, I won't say bad cause I don't agree. It's a decent KIDS action flick. I mean, it is PG for Christ sake, it's not like they are trying to kid anyone. It's being advertised towards kids, on kids networks. We are the ones kidding ourselves.

It not Trust me on that!!!! Dragonball Evolution is not the worst movie out there.
I would say that Dragonball Evolution is up there with first MK movie , and also place with Street Fighter Movie, and last but not least DOA.
This takes me back early 97. I remember those days

^^ I don't think aiming a movie at kids gives the creators a freepass to fuck it up and make it unfaithful.
What I'm about to say I've said on various forums before (I'm usually known as simply Tenshinhan, but that one was taken here already
)
I don't think everybody voting 1 is automatically a hater who didn't even see it. I'm not a hater, I have seen it, I used to be a supporter, but if I'd have to vote now I'd rate it 1/10 as well.
That I rate it a 1 doesn't mean that I think it's the worst movie I've EVER seen, but it's certainly among them. I'll go as far and say The Legend of Chun Li was better. Yes it was a bad movie, but at least I was entertained. DBE just made me wanna cry.
The DragonBall Universe is something that has been bringing me great joy for a number of years now, and seeing what FOX did with it just hurts my feelings. As a DragonBall fan, I'm insulted and I wouldn't hesitate to give this movie a minus 10 score, if that were possible.
Judging it as a stand alone movie, I vote 1/10 because it is a movie with weak acting and it has an even weaker story where nothing is explained. Add to that the mediocre special effects, the terrible pacing (100 minutes won't change that by a long shot), the fact that the ending looks terribly rushed and the last battle is the most anticlimactic fight EVER.
Also, on the comparison to The Magic Begins that I read here earlier;
Having seen both The Magic Begins and DBE (it pains me that) I actually have to say that the actors in Magic Begins - despite the name changes and different looks - portray their anime counter parts WAY better than the "A Cast" did for DBE.
Also, the story is a lot more faithful to DragonBall than DBE. Granted the special effects in TMB were terrible, even for their time, but keep in mind that it was a low budget film while DBE had a 100 mil budget and those effects aren't exactly great either seeing what can be done nowadays and in my opinion that's is inexcusable. A big budget DragonBall Movie should be something that - at least special effects wise - sets the bar for other movies to come and not something to point at and laugh, like what's pretty much the case now. Keep in mind that I'm in no way a hater - I've been supporting the movie all the way until I actually saw it and was disgusted by what I saw - so you can't say I'm exaggarating or senselessly bashing the film.
I'd rather have the "ridiculous looking, but faithful" movie than the "ridiculous looking and not even faithful" movie. The first one would at the very least be supported by the (majority of) the fans while the latter one at the very best will be supported by a vast minority.

I think the first Mortal Kombat is better than Evolution. It has better fight scenes (Hell the Reptile fight alone is better than anything in Evolution), it's funny when it's supposed to be, the plot flows along a moderate pace, and it's just generally much more entertaining than Evolution. It also sticks closer to the source material. If the filmmakers approached Dragon Ball the same way Mortal Kombat was approached Evolution wouldn't be getting the extreme amount of hate it gets today. Mortal Kombat is the best "Video Game" movie ever. The only other good one is probably the first Tomb Raider. All the rest suck.

The first Mortal Kombat was great, I don't care what anyone says. I saw it in the cinema when it came out (I was about 10 years old at the time) and I liked it ever since. The MK videogames never really had a consistent storyline, being a videogame series and all, so the movie actually improved upon that.
The special effects were decent and the characters actually looked and acted like their videogame counterparts. Off course it was cheesy, but that's not by definition a bad thing. I liked it back then and I still enjoy it when I ocassionally watch it now. The second movie is where they fucked up...

The first Mortal Kombat movie was based on a videogame about a tournement. The plot and characters of the games were so thin that anything they did with it could only make it better.Tenshinhan-san wrote:The first Mortal Kombat was great, I don't care what anyone says. Dragon Ball is a fully fleshed story. And even fans who try to claim that they are not will attempt to be partial can't for the simple reason that things were removed or changed. It's something that we can't avoid doing no matter how hard we tried. We can not criticized this movie without bringing out the differences.
I also wish that they made movies like they did in the past where half the movie would be fighting scenes instead of people worrying able character development. (I am going to buy Fist of Legend, laterz)
