Loved the new OP — wasn't wild about the ED. The animation for both was absolutely gorgeous, though.

Also: was it just me, or did Shigeru Chiba sound somewhat more gruff?

Yeah, it wasn't so bad once I got used to it though.

Did Bulma's voice sound wrong to anybody else? Loved the new opening, but the ending seemed bland. Maybe it's just the monitor I'm watching on, but the colors looked washed-out to me. I hope fansubbers leave all of the DB-related commercials intact. Not sure how I feel about the Bardock stuff at the beginning. It takes away some of the mystery from Freeza. And poor baby Goku! How's he supposed to father a child without genitals? Maybe Gohan is adopted in Kai...

I won't be watching Kai streaming anymore; I'd rather wait for a better-looking capture. Regardless, it was a fun experience.

That's what I was thinking too.

Plus the fact that the first scene featuring Bardock was set up. It's obvious they're foreshadowing. So I wonder if this will cover ALL of the Z-Era. Maybe it'll depend on the ratings, who knows?
We'll probably get new a new OP and ED for Androids and Buu. This is probably just to bunch one third of the series together.

Thanks Kei- the opening's so damn gorgeous to watch ^___^ It sounds much better than it did in that live vid, much more Dragonbally.

Well if it DOES cover that far we're almost guaranteed new OP's and ED's.

Was I the only one to notice that the character shots during the ED were a lot like the ones from GT where Goku is staring up at the Earth?

Oh yeah I should mention some things about the seiyuu performances

The new Muten Roshi voice is good. I wasn't too blown away by it though. It made me kinda miss the original seiyuu.

Chiba seems like he forgot how to voice Radditz since he sounded totally different than I last remembered it.

Furukawa....Piccolo was kinda different sounding too. I can't tell what it was about it though.

Tanaka makes Kuririn sound more like Luffy now than Kuririn.

I miss Nozawa's old Gohan voice. This new voice she's giving him does sound cute still but it's not a charming to me as the first one.

*crosses fingers for Horikawa to not underperform like how he did in Sparking Meteor*
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I predict once we get to that point, Goku using Kaio-Ken will become Super Saiyan, and Goku VS Vegeta will be Goku VS Freeza.

Also, my exposure to the Japanese version is limited with me owning probably less than 2% of the series in ANY language, but Nozawa really shoves the "crybaby" thing in your face. At least a lot more than Nadolny ever did, IIRC.

I loved it. The new OP was gorgeous, and I surprisingly liked Dragon Soul a lot. The ED was great, but I gotta watch it a few more times to get a better feel for Yeah! Break! Care Break! Thought the eyecatchers were pretty cool too. The re-recoding dialog was sweet, and I'm glad I wasn't instantly repulsed by Kame-sennin (didn't think I'd like his new voice). But what I really liked was the new BGM; Radditz's theme was awesome and I love the next episode preview tune a lot.

Can't wait to see it subbed, to get a better understanding, and see what the changes (if any) were.

Impressions (no gushing from me):

The new themes were pretty damn sweet. I particularly like Dragon Soul and the instrumental version of it.

The voices were good for the most part. Masako Nozawa is still amazing, I don't know how she does it at her age. Shigeru Chiba was definitely the weakest entry with his Raditz performance. Particularly at the very beginning, extremely forced performance here. I also missed the farmer's original reaction to the space ship, "eeehhh... eeeeeeehhhhhhh... EEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" It was very funny in DBZ.

The music was either really awesome, or really disappointing. Some songs such as when Raditz was emerging from the space pod, and later arriving at the Kame House were fantastic. However, some of the light-hearted songs were kind of lame, and (for example) the song used when Gohan was in the river felt like tacked-on stock music.

From what I can tell, the animation looked nice, but there were some things I would have liked to see cleaned up or re-drawn a little better. One particular shot of the farmer's face comes to mind, it just looks aweful and seems to have been left as-is here.

Gohan filler? C'mon guys...not only that, but it was kinda, I dunno, just there. We are first introduced to Gohan lying on a log looking at a bird. Then he's in the river being chased by Goku. It was just very immediate and strange.

The episode ending with Krillin going through the house was pretty funny, but I would've liked one of those custom "ending scene" things that they used to do. If they cut the DB recap down to one minute, or just left it out completely, they could have easily ended this episode where DBZ episode 2 ends, and had a proper ending sequence.

Overall, it's ok, but meh...

I'm really looking forward to doing some side by side vocal comparisons once we get a RAW out.

I've got to say, it's really funny how now fans of the Japanese are going through the same comparison and which is better thing that Dub fans have been going through. Namely with Sabat's Vegeta.

Yeah, the picture quality wasn't perfect with my TVAnts program. But it did the trick! I had no lagging or pausing whatsoever. And I was able to easily see how much they cleaned up the episode. It looked very clean and fresh. It sounded even better.

I really hope we can get an official CD release for the new BGM.

The first time I had to change my pants was when I saw Goku and Vegeta fighting in the opening. It was intense!
