I'm mostly happy with this because it is a great opportunity for me to rewatch the series with less undesirable filler. I absolutely love the opening theme but the look of the new animation kind of irks me. I like the new delivery for most of the lines, especially for Kuririn and Bulma, but as some have said, some of the voices were off or disappointing like Radditz and maybe Roshi. In any case I'm just thrilled to hear these people in their old roles again!

What bothers me the most probably is the choppy pacing, but that might just take some getting used to? I still think the transitions from scene to scene could be handled better... Also, I felt the BGM really overpowered some of the action going on on screen and it wasn't very inspired BGM either.

Though seriously, watching DB and OP back to back is gonna be like the highlight of my week. (that's sad isn't it?)

I don't know yet, but I think I'm going to love Kai, more than Z, for one main reason: less fillers.

I don't know why but I have always hated non-canon material, from whatecer show it comes from

Hearing Piccolo, I'm automatically hearing Portgas D. Ace more than Piccolo. That's what it comes across more to me, due to his tone.

Liking Roshi's voice. Very tolerable and sounds like a genuine old man that can be serious, rather than having a screeching, goofy voice trying to pass off as being serious like the recent voice we had before.

Masako Nozawa and Mayumi Tanaka once again do very well. Especially loved how great Ms. Nozawa's shout for Kuririn sounded after Raditz smashes him into Kame House with his tail.

Overall, I liked the episode. Loved the farmer's reaction. XD Probably my only gripe was them forgetting that Raditz makes a note of the fact that there's still life on the planet upon him landing.

Hell no, it's definitely awesome. Was giddy as hell seeing the new opening for One Piece and Dragon Ball Kai's.

I really enjoyed watching the episode. The pre-episode hype in the chat was a great thing to be a part of even though some of us couldn't keep up with how fast-paced it became in there compared to the usual.

I hope to have just as much fun next week!

The short little clips that play after the opening and after the next episode preview to this image are acknowledgments of the sponsors for the series. GT had this same thing (though I don't know who the sponsors were), yet it was excluded from the GT Dragon Box.

Just thought I say it in case anyone else was wondering!

I noticed that too, I just gave it little thought.

*let's out a thunderous primal scream*
It figures that just a couple of days before this premiers that my computer would get some kind of virus or some such bastardness that causes my computer to freeze while watching video (be it from a file using a media player, youtube or...well, anything else).

*sigh* I managed to watch the opening at least (and loved it! :D ).
I can sometimes manage a maximum of 17 minutes of watching something before the computer freezes so maybe I'll try watching as much of the episode as I can before it locks up, restart the computer and jump back to the point that I got cut off at...*groan*. This is gonna be a pain in the ass  .

Mainly because it's usually not necessary to keep 'em around. Seems odd to have still frames with nothing there (this is generally done whenever these scenes are kept for DVDs, they don't show the sponsors for home releases) right before an episode starts.

In all honesty, I really don't think his whopping 2 drunken lines in Movie 13 was enough to judge this Seiyuu on. We really never got to hear him try anything else.

As far as the cast goes, I really liked them. It'll probably take them a few Episodes to get back into the swing of things fully. As far as Raditz went...I immediately noticed more rasp. Uh...It's different...But I still like it. It works well for him IMO.

Roshi sound great until after his drunkenness. He was just ok after that. Raditz on the other hand was great! I liked that he had more rasp and he played it really well. No complaints from me about Raditz.

By previous Roshi voice, I meant the one we heard in the games and DB Movie 4 (I think he was in movie 4). :p

The one we have now is the one from DBZ Movie 13, who I thought was actually pretty decent back then, even if he did have two drunken lines.

As long as he doesn't snort, or start thinking Goku's saying he has a big, red nose, I think Raditz was alright.

Hey, what did everyone think of the piece of BGM that played during the Piccolo/Raditz confrontation? Much different than anything else in the Episode but I really liked it. The BGM seems to give the feel of the Original Score but with a more modern tone.

That's true, but they would have been nice to have one included as a bonus feature in the GT Dragon Box, just so that we can know what it was like and what the BGM for it was...

NOTE: I finished documenting all of the BGM in the first episode and all four promos over in the Kai Music Thread.

I felt it started to venture into Budokai territory.

But I'm really digging the new music. Can't compare it to Kikuchi's work, but it's definitely great.

LOVED that! I mentioned that in my review as well.

Yes, she was clearly out of practice with that voice.

Was just about to say after reseeing the episode, Bulma was definitely the weakest in the episode. Points where she was supposed to sound aggravated, she didn't show it (namely her griping about Yamcha) and her shock towards Raditz telling Goku they're brothers was rather weak.
