Washed out isn't the right term. o_O

Cleaner is a better term I'd use. Skin no longer looks pinkish, Raditz's hair looks black, rather than a blackish-blue, and Piccolo's skin certainly looks more balanced as opposed to looking like someone went overboard on the green markers.

I think it's more "faded." The colors look sun bleached. Really, I can't say that I prefer the colors on one over the other, but the selective reframing isn't bad.

Well I liked the cleaner colors I think this looks better than FUNimation's season sets

Do you think that there will new eyecatchers for--if not each episode--each saga or saga portion? I mean, if they're not animating totally new footage for the show itself, then episode-specific eyecatchers would be a very neat way to provide new content and keep things fresh.

What do you think they'll be doing with eyecatchers? I certainly think it could be a good way to keep the show varied.
I think they'll at least change them every arc, but seeing how character oriented they are, I wouldn't be surprised if they changed them every saga (by "saga" I mean what is generally considered a saga by FUNimation).
The four-episode Trunks Saga!
It was eight episodes in the original run, and it will probably be eight episodes in Kai as well; both becasue there was not a lot of filler, and because that is a very popular part of the show in Japan... and America. I have a feeling that in DB Kai, eight episodes will be quite a bit of story, so it's own independant eyecatch would seem too out of place as long as the other sagas get their own as well.

Anyway, who wants to start betting on what they'll do for the Garlic Junior Saga?

A) Keep it, but cut it down.

B) Leave it out completely.

I say "A"... :x

I really hate Garlick Jr. Saga, I hope it doesn't appear on Kai :?

ONLY guessing from episode 1, I say they'll take the Garlic Junior saga out. They cut out all filler as far as I can see, and they even cut out a couple canon lines.

That's what I'm hoping, while some fillers are funny most aren't so it's not a bad thing IMO

I'm going with "B."

I'd be surprised if they didn't cut a few episodes from the Trunks saga. There's one episode I recall where they're waiting for Goku, and I swear nothing happens the entire episode. Trunks busts out a fridge in a capsule, and they sit around drinking sodas. I wouldn't be surprised if they incorporated some bits of the Trunks special into his explanation to Goku, considering how they used the Bardock special already.

The new animation in the opening and such kind of makes me wish they just reanimated everything. But then again if they were going to go through the trouble of reanimating the entire series I'd feel like that effort was wasted and they could have just made a brand new series instead.

Either way I LOVE the idea of Kai. As a video editor myself I had thought about how much the series could benefit from editing out all the filler and improving the pacing. I toyed with the notion of maybe one day tackling the project myself. It's nice to see I won't have to, though the one thing I'm not crazy about is the cropping. Why are people so scared of not using their entire screen?

Does the sexy animation in the opening and ending make anyone else want to re-watch "Heya! Son Goku and friends Return"?

I'm fine with them not re-animating the whole thing in the style of the Opening and Ending songs. While I'm very fond of them and I'm glad to have them, the "new" look would start to grate on me. New animation would only sit with me as cell animation...and they'd never do that.

It's been reformatted for widescreen TVs.

After rewatching the opening and ending (in smexy HD no less!) I noticed that they included Lunch even though a good number of scenes she's in are considered filler. Though I guess considering they kept bits of filler like Gohan in the woods, I guess it wouldn't be that be to see Lunch being um... herself.

As for stuff like the Garlic Jr. and After Life Tournament, I'm sure that those ones will be removed. I mean those story arcs are complete filler. It just makes sense, is all.

EDIT: Oh yeah, noticing that TV.com doesn't have the series added to their database yet, I figured I'd make a submission to have it added. Hopefully this'll mean the opportunity at having a dragon ball guide on that site that's actually not filled with fanboy nonsense.

Which I don't agree with. I own a widescreen TV, but if the original aspect ratio is 4:3 then I want to see it in 4:3! Black bars aren't the end of the world. Hell most widescreen movies are shot in scope and have more black at the top and bottom than is on the sides of a 4:3 show.

Keep your logic away from my fanbase. We don't need that kind of smut here.

We're talking about Kai, not the original unedited series. He would very much like to watch it in 4:3 as stated above, but that option is unavailable to him.

Glad to see someone's taking this lightly.

Is that the direction fans are going now in order to feel justified in complaining about every last thing that comes out with the name "Dragonball" on it somewhere?

Yeah I guess your right, he can just fast forward through the filler and try to tweak his TV's color settings manually.
