So far I've only seen one FUNi screen that I liked more. To be fair, though, the FUNi screens were good. I just like Kai more.
And... fuck Season 2!
What's bad about season 2? I never realised something, except for that fucked croping, in some scenes it really gets on my nerves.......
It doesn't have this problem on the last few discs (once the Ginyu show up), but for everything before that, the season two set is WAAAY overly bright, to the point where if you're watching it on an HD TV, you sometimes can barely see shit (it's like someone performed a Taiyoken on the film masters).
The first few discs of season 3 also share this problem, in fact to an even GREATER extent. In the Piccolo vs Form 2 Freeza fight for instance, there's an (inanely kickass) bit where they both exchange two MASSIVE Ki attacks that are both spectacular. But on the season three disc that that episode is on, the image is so bright that both Ki attacks are literally ERASED from the shots. You actually cannot see them hardly at all, and it just looks like they're both shooting giant rays of bright white sunlight at one another (when both Ki attacks are actually dark pink/purple).
Sucks too, cause that's one of the most memorable parts of that fight for me.
Not to MENTION The Lineart that would occasionally perform the Instantaneous movement!!
Watch the first few seasons. it stops eventually, and I dont remember exactly when, but I know the first 2 seasons are RIDDLED with this. Any time there's a high amount of Motion, like a rumbling or something detailed lines VANISH during the motion.
Anyone who thinks Kai is "Just as bad" as FUNi's Bricks doesn't know what they're talking about.

So far, Kai episode 1 was made up of two chapters, with the recap and little bit of Gohan's introduction. So I'd say it's about right.
Judging by the titles for episodes 2 and 3, it would seem about right that episode 2 will cover the next two chapters.

Thing is, if it covered only two chapters, the third would have to cover four chapters in order for the Afterlife to be featured in a episode with a title that mentions training while dead. If episodes 2-4 go three chapters each, Goku still dies at the time we're thinking he does and the Afterlife is still shown in Episode 4.

You know, I just realized that this is the first animated show I have
ever followed on a weekly basis.

It's been three days since the last episode, but episode two is all I've thought about since then.

Makes you think the torture it would be to watch the original airing, right?
Good thing that they're used to that.

Man, I like it and all, but I haven't been able to get that excited yet. At the end of the day, it's still stuff I've seen a hundred times. Just abridged and with new music.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

@ VegettoEX: YOU MUST EAT YOUR SHORTS!!
I just remembered reading somewhere that once said the binding words "...I replied that if a new DragonBall series ever came out in Japan, I would eat my shorts".
Now, this was way back in April of 2004 (yes, April of 2004), but I'm holding you to it Mike, and I hope others will too! I don't care how or what kind, but shorts must be eaten... or Kai will stop airing.

Maybe he'll say the article said that as a joke

Technically, this isn't a new series. Just the original series rehashed!
Thus, his shorts shall remain fit neatly around the area they were designed! DESIGNED I SAY!

Damn it! Don't tell him that! I believe many people would find it funny for Mike to eat his shorts.

Seconded, for goodness' sake! And it's no more "new" than the orange bricks (not to start a preference debate about who's doing a better job and all). And I remember when the Z dub started and FUNi had a similar pace. This was considered a travesty then. Now it's considered a fresh look at the series. *shrug*
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Back then it was the censorship that was bad. I never saw anyone complain about pacing. Sometimes I heard praise because there was less filler! These pace complaints are a new thing from people who want more suspense than action.

Yeah, I get that. I don't even have a issue with Kai, and I'm going to keep watching it. It just seems a bit redundant. Like.. an officially licensed abridged series, minus the humor. It's DBZ, except it's DBK and there's less of it.

From my perspective, less is more in regards to filler. It isn't abridged so much as it is more true to Toriyama's comic.

Well, the opening does refer to Kai as the
"Toriyama Akira Original Cut Edition".

Maybe that's it- it's not just filler. Everything got a nip tuck. The filler (primarily in this case, Gohan getting lost and foreshadowing of his hidden power) was still there. I don't have a problem with that, per se. But I keep seeing people touting this as DBZ- the filler-free edition. And that isn't exactly correct. The "manga" doesn't start until ten minutes into the episode (the first panel is the farmer working by his truck).
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Sorry for topic comment but...Mike eat your shorts! Just kidding, but series feels pretty new to me. We have new music, redone voices (some replacement seiyu), and semi-cut filler. At least for me, it feels like a completely new product.
Gohan: "You're a Buddhist." Kuririn: "A hungry Buddhist!"

From what I've seen, people have been careful before the first episode aired to note that it might not be completely filler-free. After the first episode aired, people have been careful to note (for the most part) that it is mostly filler-free and simply
closer to Toriyama's original story. Anyone who has just stated "filler free" or something along those lines are stating things in a way that I take loosely and, based on the context, I know that they mean that most of the filler is gone and I don't take them literally.

I've noted that as well in a few of my posts, but things are going by so quickly in these conversations that some stuff just gets missed completely.
