Overall, they seem to vary between "bad" and "bad in an enjoyable way". I've seen larger spectrums.JAPPO wrote:The reviews for this movie are so mixed

HA! I'm the first guy that says "It's Fun." in the Reelz video. I actually fairly critiqued it right after that. Of Course they would cut it out. Although, I will admit that I did enjoy the movie. I have to say I was surprised by some of the other people around me since they seemed to REALLY REALLY seemed to like it, but maybe I'm just gullible.JAPPO wrote:Some news I found:

There was one kid who (jokingly, although with a straight face) compared it to a Van Gough painting. Classy.

The movie is a mess, not too surprising. Though it's not without its scattered enjoyable moments. I still like some of the aesthetic choices, even if most of them came out of nowhere.
The brief fight between Goku and Piccolo was actually rather nice. If a sequel comes along it should be based more along those lines, instead of emphasizing Goku's self confidence or incoherent melodrama.
It's not the worst film. Granted the script and scene-work needed some MAJOR revisions and tweaking, but I don't think Evolution is intrinsically flawed per se. Though Fox's rushed handling leaves its mark.
For what it's worth I took my brother to see it and he heartily enjoyed it. So, mission accomplished on that front.
Also... does anybody else really wish Rifftrax does commentary?

Now that is this film's major weakness.Innagadadavida wrote:I took comfort in the speculation that they knew they were making an absurdly campy kung fu movie. It was way to short though. It moved so fast too, my friend got up to go to the bathroom and get a refill when Goku passed out and when he got back Piccolo and Goku were ready to fight.

The length is, yeah. If it was longer they could correct the pacing.Pain wrote:Now that is this film's major weakness.Innagadadavida wrote:I took comfort in the speculation that they knew they were making an absurdly campy kung fu movie. And some of the acting. I just really want the sequel to not have James Wong involved...AT ALL.JAPPO wrote:The length is, yeah. Fixing the pacing (and the scenes that could be added by doing so, like Daimaou splitting the fulum maniacally) would have made it decent as a stand-alone action flic aimed at kids, which I say liking that kind of movie. There would have still been the innacuracies but they would have been much better/bearable if the characters they had in the movie were at all fleshed out.

So......did anyone find the post-credits (or mid credits?) scene completely unnecessary? It was so long and predictable....and odd. I would have much rather had something that would have hinted at the Piccolo Jr. arc such as watching the dead body of Piccolo cough up an egg or something...... oh well.

Completely goddamn unnecessary -_- And terrible. Seriously, they had that machine that made life from Daimaou's blood. The hover ship was never shown blowing up. If you have a clip at the end, show something there with sparks and flashes and something darting from the chamber or something. Don't show Daimaou as some sweet sick puppy who just needs a hug and a bowl of soup.

Yeah. I didn't know there was another part after the credits! I was going to stay for the credits, but the cleaners came in an turned on all the lights and basically made everyone leave, the bastards! Now I'm pissed.Pain wrote:What happened? It was the same for me, when I saw Watchmen! Even though there was nothing after the credits, the cleaners still made me get up! I have the right to view the credits!Kid Trunks wrote:Yeah. Two minutes is a lot, considering that it's after the credits.Velasa wrote:You didn't miss much. It was two minutes of that lady from the village that Mai robbed making soup and feeding it to a sad puppy Daimaou curled up under a blanket. Aka, absolute failure.

Wow... I don't know how they do it in whatever theater company you went to, but when I worked for Regal, we weren't allowed to do that at all. If there were still people in the theater watching the credits, we weren't allowed to really hurry them out. We might be able to discretely start cleaning under cover of darkness, but turning on the house lights was a big no-no.Kid Trunks wrote:Yeah. I didn't know there was another part after the credits! Basically it cuts to some Asian woman who is preparing a food in a kitchen and the camera slowly follows her to a bedroom where in the bed there is something large. You can't see what's in the bed at first....and the camera just sorta sits there for 15 seconds trying to build tension. Finally, the camera trucks in on the bed and HOLY SHIT its Piccolo-who turns over and looks at her!Pain wrote:What happened? CLIFFHANGER!
Yeah, I was really hoping the lady was going to care for an egg or something that would relate to Piccolo Jr. I mean, once the scene started you knew it was going to reveal a "threat", but instead of making it interesting...it's just predicable and unnecessary. Piccolo doesn't even look like he's that badly hurt. And the Asian woman isn't even in the film until this scene so we have no reason as to why she would ever take care of him.
It's just too bad that the film screws up on the one part that could easily get you a little pumped for the next movie. But why would we want to see the next movie if they have already set up the SAME DAMN villain?! Especially when DB/Z has so many good ones to choose from.

Wow. So weird that Goku would just leave Piccolo there like that, as if he were dead when he's actually not. But then that's how this whole movie works. It's so desperate to move on to the next scene that he never really deals with anything properly.Velasa wrote:You didn't miss much. Ya know, I really feel like they should have killed off that version of Piccolo. He's too one dimensional to be the Piccolo who goes from evil to good. If they do take that route with this Piccolo, it's gonna look so random and out of place. It'd almost be like taking a random meaningless henchman and suddenly givinghim all kinds of character depth.
All said and done, I'm still hoping for a sequel.
