Saw this in my Deviantart messages, and had to post it.

OMGGG IT'S SO AMAZINGGG.

The first rule is... there are no rules.

And who the hell was that chick helping out Piccolo? They never said her name throughout the entire movie. Wtf? D:

But I kept thinking, "Oooh! Piccolo is amazing! And to think he loves a lil' four year old boy C:"

Sequel? Yes? Please? Gohan. I want. Do want. Gohan in sequel, pl0x.

A sequel. With one of my favorite characters. CANNOT FUCKING HAPPEN.

The mere thought of how they'd probably rape Gohan's character, not to mention how they'd probably tramp up Videl, just makes me lose my will to live.

I think the problem with the fans' view of the movie is due to preconceived expectations. We all take Dragon Ball VERY seriously. To see something like this handled by clearly non-fans, and marketed to children is offensive.

The acting is pretty bad, but what made it tolerable for me was adjusting my view of the movie. Once I heard a couple of cringe-worthy lines I was like... "Wait... I'm supposed to cringe... This movie's plot is about as thick as the film it is printed on."

I also realized that I would have thought this movie was the shit back in the day. I liked Power Rangers back then and a lot of the movie reminded me of Power Rangers.

I guess you should take comfort in the fact that they won't get far enough to include Videl. Shit, they already shot even the concept of my ship to hell by deleting one of its principle characters. We're all gonna end up in pain as the show goes along, might as well enjoy everyone else's pain. I know I'm never going to be able to stop laughing at the seizing Vegeta fangirls when they screw him over.

I've been watching the early parts of the Buu Saga lately (Japanese, of course). Videl's got to be the cutest character in the series, beating out even the little kids like Goten and Chibi Goku/Gohan. She's so earnest and serious, and her voice is one of the best in the series. I haven't watched the dub in years, but from what I remember she was treated fairly well in the English version, too.

Definitely. She does have that kinda arrogant side to her, but aside from that, there's not a single flaw to her, really. She's honest, upstanding, and would easily take a bullet for those she cared about. Case in point? Movie 10. Yeah. She knew she was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overmatched by Broly, but she still kept trying to help Gohan out whenever she was conscious enough to make a move.

And both her voice actresses were just stellar as her. Well, her original English actress, at least, was on par with her Japanese. I still can't believe they recast Videl for the final episodes of Z and for GT over here...

Warning: Chatku rant ahead. As long as everyone else is ranting on various characters I'm gonna try and get this out of my system once and for all.

I hate what they did to Goku and I will hate them forever for it.

It's not a soul-crushing kind of pain, but more of a bitter "what COULD'VE been" pain. In that, had they picked a different actor, and actually given a damn about keeping Goku in character, things could've turned out really nice.

Geez, Hollywood, you're so LAZY! Always going for the cliche "high school" story instead of actually flexing a creative muscle--if you even have any creativity left.

Its not like Goku's DIFFICULT to write for. He's a cheerful, naive mountain kid who loves to fight strong guys and has a huge appetite!

But NOOOoOOOOooooOOooo, they gotta pull the damn "depressing, horny, lonely, loser kid" card because YOUNG CHILDREN can't relate to a happy character who's surrounded by friends.

*Looks over at how insanely successful cheerful character Spongebob is*.
Yeah, happy characters never sell. You gotta be all angsty and emotionless and crawling in your skin. XD

The worst thing is there's not a thing I can do about it. I can ignore the movie. I can hope they actually keep Goku in character for the sequel (HAH! Fat chance in hell.) if said sequel actually gets made.

I still attest that it IS possible to write a live action Dragon Ball movie with an in-character Goku, but its likely I'm never going to see that because whoever the big dog of that studio is doesn't care about being respectful of the source material. Nameless, soulless, jerks.

Yeah, to be completely off topic, I thought Videl was a pretty cute character in the manga since she was kind of tomboyish, brooding, and competitive, a very unlikely candidate for Gohan's girlfriend. However, I found her characterization in the anime a little annoying since she was reduced to the usual overly emotional, overbearing harpy that is always favored for some reason. Oh well, I think #18 got away with her dignity at least.

On topic: The movie still blows but "Rule" is growing on me a little.

Yes, this is true, but remember, I'm a Gohan fan too, and if there is a sequel, there's no way he's escaping it.

What they did to Goku? That'll be nothing to the inevitable ruination they bring upon his firstborn.

Wow... I don't know how they do it in whatever theater company you went to, but when I worked for Regal, we weren't allowed to do that at all. Yeah, I work for a Keresotes theatre, and that is definitely not allowed.

However, if you've ever had a job at a theatre, and had to clean up afterwards...it is pretty annoying when people do that. >.<

No way! That same thing happened to me!! I was rather pissed, The credits started and the lights all boomed on, Just in time for the special ending scene in the middle of the credits to come on. I could vaguely make out the picture, but some big lights were causing some nasty visual effects and the cleaners were making to much noise.
I guess I'm just going to use that as an excuse to go and watch it again! Yes people... You heard me.

Seriously, a happy bright-eyes wide grinning guy woulda been a lot more attractive to kids. As it was there were exactly three to four children in the theatre I was in. The other 20-so were all high school and college kids laughing at it or burying their faces in their hands.

I really think the kids would've enjoyed a happy Goku more than a depressed one. I know I would. It's one of the things that drew me to the character in the first place. That and watching him kick the stuffing out of the Ginyus while rescuing his son and childhood friend at the same time.

(And all while Vegeta stood there agape at the entire event. XD )

If this is indeed going to be the Saiyajin arc, what age will they stick Gohan at even, I wonder. I doubt he'll be 4 or 5.

Oh man, I hope they don't have him all back-talking and whiny and ranting at Chi-Chi for making him study. I don't want to see Gohan snapping angrily at Chi-Chi.

Not to mention that Gohan's relationship with Piccolo in the proverbial sequel is now completely wrecked because its Piccolo Daimao, not Piccolo Jr, who's going to be around for it.

And Piccolo Daimao does not seem one for making friends with small children--especially his enemies' children. @_@

Also, how AWKWARD is that gonna be, even in movie continuity? I mean, Marsters!Piccolo KILLED Gohan's namesake and great-grandfather.

Of course, there's always the possibility that they'll pull a Kuririn and not have Gohan appear at all; or if he does he won't get to take part in the battle against Nappa and Vegeta because little kids aren't allowed to be put in those violent situations in live action movies. o_O

OR, maybe Gohan will simply be played by a baby and won't have any actual role in the film other than some family scenes with the new parents.

OR Chi-Chi and baby Gohan will be kidnapped together at some point by one of the bad guys.

There's so many scenarios for Gohan running through my head; but I'm kind of hoping I won't need to worry about them because I don't want to see a sequel to this movie unless the people behind it get their act together and actually keep the characters in character.

I'm worried sick about Pic and Gohan. They’re my favorite characters, my favorite part of the series for so many reasons- now Gohan's likely to become some emo boy who shows up at 13 and Pic's gone, replaced with his neutered father who has zero reason to have any measure of compassion for these people- there isn’t even the vague link Pic had through Son sparing him because Son thought he killed Daimaou dead without any compassion or second thought. What the hell is possibly going to connect to begin to save this relationship?

I don't know what to do about Gohan. Chatku's like an amalgamation of all the uninteresting, stereotypical protagonist types I can't stand (it's like they purposely wrote Chatku with the goal of 'how can we best piss off Goku fangirls' in mind) so I can't imagine Gohan faring much better if they start off with him as a teenager.

For Piccolo Jr, the only, ONLY thing I can think of is if in the beginning of the next movie we see at some point Piccolo Daimao giving birth to Piccolo Jr's egg while Daimao himself gives last gasp of life and dies in that bed in the village.

The woman who was attending him enters bringing something to drink and finds Daimao dead with the egg beside him. It cracks open, Piccolo Jr comes out, and something similar to what occurred in the anime's filler starts up.

I do remember Gohan saying "Urusai!" (Be quiet) to Chichi at some point in the Cell Saga, though I'm not sure what exactly the circumstances were...

It was probably justified, though, since TOEI did some character raping themselves with Chichi. She's fine in the Buu Saga, but everything before that... too bad she's not a relatively normal human being like in the manga.
