It even tells you that right before the OP begins:MagicBox wrote:Didn't the advertisements say "now closer to Toriyama's original cut"?

Is there a list of things they feature? I'd love to know more about this.In the DragonBox release of the original DragonBall there was an extra feature showing off (or making fun of) how America censored some things, one of which being Goku's penis.
Under construction.

Yeah, I get that, and I don't need it 100% to enjoy the series. It's just disappointing.Tsukento wrote:Closer doesn't mean exactly 100%.
But when you really think about it, the Raditz fight in DBZ had almost no filler to begin with anyway, so it was pretty much a given we were going to lose some Toriyama-written material. I'm sure once we get into the year of training and the filler kicks up a TON, then we'll see less and less manga scenes cut out. I still just think it's very disappointing that we lost the ones we did, though.

Yeah, it's not a huge thing to me either, but the title cards are like the face of the episode, and they used to be very interestingly done, and I love looking through them; but it seems like now that will be pretty much pointless...Saiyavenger2941 wrote:Eh, not a big deal for me. I'm more concerned with the show itself than the title cards.Hujio wrote:It was the exact same, except with a different title... Well, at least it's better than all of those pathetic excuses for cover-ups FUNi and Sabban pulled (with crayon-drawn cut-out flowers and bushes).kei17 wrote:No wee-wee again

Honestly, I always felt like the digital paint fellas at Funimation deserved props for at least making the image blend in with the original so well. I can't think of an edit that was obvious and obnoxious, other than due to the unavoidable fact of its placement.SSj_Rambo wrote: Well, at least it's better than all of those pathetic excuses for cover-ups FUNi and Sabban pulled (with crayon-drawn cut-out flowers and bushes).
Assuming that wasn't sarcasm, here's some of the many examples I can think of off the top of my head:Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Honestly, I always felt like the digital paint fellas at Funimation deserved props for at least making the image blend in with the original so well. I know there are a ton more (one about a flower comes to mind), but I know there were some where they did a good job on the coloring, or a good job and the initial drawing of the cover-up, but I've never seen a cover up of theirs that was perfectly (or even "darn good") done; especially when compared to what the people at Toei are doing now (but that doesn't make it right).
NOTE: Big thanks to Tanooki Kuribo and the videos he has on his YouTubethat help me stay on top of these!

Alright, now back to episode 002 of DragonBall Kai!!
Ok so wait... they didn't fix the Ugly Vegeta Colors?!
UUUGH... NOW I'm a bit disappointed in Toei... You fix Piccolo's blood in the recap to fix the continuity problem, but you don't fix arguably your biggest screwup?!?!
I wish Wasted Wisher had done that scene... he seems to know what he's doing when he does the redrawing...

I quote Kanzentai.RattleMan wrote:Is there a list of things they feature? I'd love to know more about this.
Kanzentai wrote:Special 4: A look at some of the censorship from the early episodes of American DragonBall. There are four small clips, each introduced in a comical fashion, essentially mocking the American censorship.
The first clip is from the original 1995 dub and shows Goku catching the fish with his digital undies!
"From the 1st episode 'Bulma and Son Goku'
Underwear was put on"
The second clip is from the 2001 dub and shows Goku diving after Oolong in his digital undies, as well as the "fish full of dollars" scene!
"From the 5th episode 'The Strong Villain of the Desert, Yamcha'
The underwear becomes a roll of bills!"
The third clip is from the 2001 dub and shows Goku and Chi Chi are flying on Kinto-Un. Chi Chi seemingly throws Goku off the cloud for no apparent reason...
"From the 7th episode 'Gyuumao of Mount Frypan'
Goku does not do pat-pat..."
The final clip is from the 1995 dub, and shows the scene where Chi Chi throws her helmet-knife-thingy at Kame-sennin, and he shows her his license to prove that he's a real hermit.
"From the 8th episode 'Kame-sennin's Kamehameha'
Kame-sennin's license"
I'm gonna have to watch episode 2 this evening and return with a review. :3
I too am disappointed that they didn't bother to fix Vegeta's haircolor/armor.

On hiatus.
Um, no they didn't. o_O That's clearly edited by Tanooki.SSj_Rambo wrote:They tried to play Cargo off as a robot, so when he was killed it didn't look like child murder (note the still green edges of his face).
The joke was that Nappa blew up a news reporting helicopter. To dance around the fact that he just killed a bunch of people, they claimed it was a "cargo robot." As in, it was supposedly a machine carrying their cargo (equipment and what not). Tanooki took that line and made it into a pun.
We never saw Cargo get killed at all in the edited dub. In fact, they just forget he was there, sooner than Toriyama did. And no, he wasn't a robot. Cargo was always Namekian and referred to as Dende's brother by Krillin, who claimed he would "help him get back to his dad and brother soon." Another evasion of deaths, since we clearly saw Dodoria kill Cargo and the elder.

No. That was user-made. In the censored dub of Season 2 Freeza fires a "warning shot" and Cargo is just magically never heard from again after running away.SSj_Rambo wrote:Bussani wrote:What the crap!?SSj_Rambo wrote:I don't want to derail this thread, so I just want to explain this and end it here.

Alright, now back to episode 002 of DragonBall Kai!!
The whole joke behind that picture is when Nappa blew up an aircraft in the censored Season 1, someone yelled, "They blew up the cargo robot!" So, as a joke, someone edited a picture of Cargo the Namekian to look like a robot. Har har. Funny funny.
Glad I'm not the only one who remembered.
And for further proof:

Also, the digital painting FUNi used to do stuck out like a sore thumb due to the footage shaking. Case in point, refer to Reacoom's ass and Gurd's head still being connected to his body.

the things i noticed:
Piccolos blood in the brownisch toned flashback seems to be browned red, not browned purple

and other thing i noticed is the hair of raditz in the closeups: you can see dirt/scratches, witch is very sad because that would have been very easy to recolor....this maybe sounds not so importend, but its very clearly visible in HD and looks terrible^^

and the color of vegetas hair, but that has already been noted

Glad to see they got ''paradise'' and Kame-Sennin's name right this time.
Quite disappointed about the title card being the same and some animation frames that weren't improved (mentioned above). Didn't mind the pacing although I wished they would have kept the scene where Goku smacks against the water and Raditz being shocked about his scouter not malfunctioning. Music? Still in queue for approvement. Voice acting? No problems there. Sponsors? Dislike McDonalds...I know I know, who gives a damn... but still, yuck. Overall an average OK.
