Re: Kaioken?....
"Taiyou-ken" ("Fist of the Sun") is one of Tenshinhan's special moves (later used by Goku, Kuririn, and even Cell). It works by blinding anyone who didn't have their eyes closed/wasn't wearing sunglasses, so the user can get the jump on their opponent, or just run away.
"Kaiou-ken" ("Fist of Kaiou") on the other hand, is the strength/speed-multplying technique that Goku learned from Kaiou-sama, and used against Vegeta and Freeza.
Hopefully that's a little clearer.

Taiyo-ken is actually used quite a bit, from what I've seen... it must be a rather easy ability to use (we even see Bebi use a modified version in DBGT).
As for Kaio-ken... it's not really ever used after the Freeza battle, is it? I do know that Goku uses it still in Movies 5 and 6, but that's about the end of it. Sort of a shame, as I always thought flaring red Goku looked neater than Golden Warrior Goku.

Kaio-Ken doesn't simply add to your power... it strains your body in the process. Goku was able to control straining his REGULAR body, but to strain his body while in SSJ? Probably too much.
The only time a "Super Kaio-Ken" is used (being Kaio-Ken while in SSJ) is while he's dead in the Afterlife Tournament. In fact, that's probably the reason we only see it used (despite it being filler) while SSJ... he's got no living body to worry about straining.
Not to mention various SSJ levels later making Kaio-Ken irrelevant
. I agree on the red-hue, though... it looks pretty badass.

Kaio-ken is said to be a terrible strain on the body. SSj already brings the body up past the power that a Kaio-ken could generate with much less strain. If you were to combine the two, I can imagine it horribly wrecking the body.
Edit: Damn it, he got to it before I did. Ah well, at least I was still right.
(We're going to ignore the Heaven's Tournament filler... Super Kaio-Ken? Psh.

"Kayoken," as it is in the new Budokai game as well >_<;El_Diablo wrote:How is "Kaiou Ken" pronounced in FUNimation's dub in the Afterlife Tournament?
Ocean pronounced it correctly, not like the "Kayoken" of earlier in the series
Also, I always thought Yamcha and Ten should have learned the Kaioken as well, perhaps perfecting it beyond the point Goku had...of course, that would mean they'd actually be in the story, and they're not Saiyajin, so...

They've already got the character named "King Kai," and they're saying the "Kai" correctly. Why is it so god damn difficult?
Why it was never said properly outside of DBZ movies 2+3 (where they got everything pronounced right), I'll never know.

Seriously, it's enough to drive a person insane. That along with the random correct attack names mixed in with the dub names (is it that hard to pick one or another?)...
