My Japanese is very basic and someone might correct me, but I think 'yo' at the end of a sentence is when you're asking a question or making a request.

Also, Chichi is totally a hick like Goku. It's her speech pattern that gives it away.

... a king that's a total hick. =P I don't know if he's portrayed any differently in the manga (Hell, I think he barely shows up past his introductory chapters), but the anime version of Gyumao couldn't be any more redneck if he tried.

She was saying 'Gohan Yo- when she was calling out for him right near the start of the first episode before Goku punches down that tree.

As for Ox-King being a hick as well, well, even in the manga he is kind of the same, but I always pictured him as a very 'all-over-the-place' character until Z, he is just nuts, and I never understood why he was the Demon King, what kind of evil was he ruling over?

That "Gohan yo" in the first episode means "Time to eat," it's not a suffix attached to Gohan's name.
