And THAT is the single exception I was referring to. Maybe it has something to do with the quick succession...caejones wrote:"Goku-sa! Piccolo-sa!"

My Japanese is very basic and someone might correct me, but I think 'yo' at the end of a sentence is when you're asking a question or making a request.Bejiita wrote:I never pictured ChiChi as a hick, she is the daughter of a King, she's kind of like a princess then. She is a bit of a hick as she's always lived in the country not the city, I doubt her saying Goku sa is a reason for that though. I always found it nice when she says 'Gohan-yo' in the first episode, I can't think of her using 'yo' after anyone's name after that.
Also, Chichi is totally a hick like Goku. It's her speech pattern that gives it away.
... a king that's a total hick. =P I don't know if he's portrayed any differently in the manga (Hell, I think he barely shows up past his introductory chapters), but the anime version of Gyumao couldn't be any more redneck if he tried.Bejiita wrote:I never pictured ChiChi as a hick, she is the daughter of a King

It's a shock that Gohan wasn't named "Son Nemechek Earnhardt"Dr. Casey wrote:... a king that's a total hick.

She was saying 'Gohan Yo- when she was calling out for him right near the start of the first episode before Goku punches down that tree.Bussani wrote:My Japanese is very basic and someone might correct me, but I think 'yo' at the end of a sentence is when you're asking a question or making a request.Bejiita wrote:I never pictured ChiChi as a hick, she is the daughter of a King, she's kind of like a princess then. As for Ox-King being a hick as well, well, even in the manga he is kind of the same, but I always pictured him as a very 'all-over-the-place' character until Z, he is just nuts, and I never understood why he was the Demon King, what kind of evil was he ruling over?

I was going to bring that up. Damn you.obiwan23s wrote:That "Gohan yo" in the first episode means "Time to eat," it's not a suffix attached to Gohan's name.
I've always found that pun rather amusing, though. Very clever, I must say.
