Ando auditioned? Hell, they could have given him Goku!

James could've been a good pick for any of the main male roles, really. Would've made the movie a great deal better in my opinion.

Of course, we ended up with the stereotypical american movie hero... *sigh*

And then...what? No one will suddenly mind a horribly out of character Goku? Come on man, if the character traits stay the same it won't matter if the writing's better, the acting's better, or even if they stay more faithful to the DragonBall plot. The characters mean everything. If you don't have that, then you have nothing. The characters are what makes the series, without them you just have a general concept. That's what DBE was...A general concept. 7 Wish Granting Balls.

THANK YOU FOR GETTING THAT REFERENCE.

I can't wait to see if Mike and The Bots put out a "Rifftrax" addon for DBE.

Yamcha? I liked him. He was in no way faithful to the character from the anime. But in his own right, he was pretty cool. I surprised myself when watching the movie how little I actually cared about how unfaithful the movie was.

Its also weird that, despite how much I condemned this movie in my own mind before its release, I'm now feeling a certain sentimental attachment to it that I just can't help. But in a way I kind of knew this would be the case. My main worry all along was that this would be Dragonball's exposure to everybody and that I'd have to protect it. In my mind, if we just kept Dragonball hidden, it'd be nice and safe. Dumb, I know, but that's how I felt.

Yeah, that'd be me, and I think Mike might have been wanting to do something too. But it's still far off, since I gotta wait 'til there's a DVD, after all. For the time being, I'm just trying to come up with jokes by memory.

But as of right now I'm not signing on anymore co-hosts. Last time I started up an A/V related project and just let anyone and everyone join... well, it didn't end well. It's just a fun project that I'm gonna keep mostly to myself and one or two folks already chosen, because we already click with each other humor-wise.

(EDIT: Also, they're folks that will do the riffing in the spirit of having fun instead of "bash the film outright.")

But of course whenever it's done it'll end up in the FanWorks section.

Yamcha would have been awesome, except for Joon Park being about 20 years too old for the role. And I'm sorry, but I simply cannot get over his Chris Sabat impersonation.

I can't beleive I forgot this exchange from our viewing earlier.

Did he ever mention studying the anime for his role? At this point it wouldn't surprise me at all if he popped in the season 3 dub saw Yamcha and went "ooooh so he's a long haired surfer dude, gotcha."

Or maybe he read the first couple volumes of the manga and got the impression that Yamcha was a bumbling goofball.

From what I understand, and I could be wrong, they never even watched the dub.
No dub terminology appears in the movie, at least none that I remember. Hell they used Mafuba instead of "Evil Containment Wave".

From what I understand, they went mostly off the Manga.

Joon Park's interpretation might just be coincidence.

Personally, I liked Yamcha in the movie a lot, he seemed very likable to me.. The only thing being he is too old. Also he didn't fight. I mean if he at least had a minute long battle with Goku where he does the Roga Fu fu ken, I would have been happy. I actually have no feelings for Yamcha in the Manga/Anime, I personally don't care for him at all and he is down there with Chaozu for character I care about the least, yet I thought he was cool in the movie.

As For Chatwin's Goku, I liked him, I feel people are blowing the "self doubting" thing out of proportion. I think he was an OK choice, and with a better script he could be pushed into "good" choice category.

As for Chi Chi, she was likable. I don't really care about Chi Chi in the show, so the fact that Jaime Chung is really hot, well to me anyway, made her at least fun to look at. I know that's a terrible reason but at least it's some thing.

Bulma and Roshi were both Good. I just don't understand why Roshi couldn't have looked more accurate, I mean seriously, how much is a bald cap and fake beard, he looked younger than Gohan.

Speaking of Gohan, he was really good.

Piccolo was awesome even with his short screen time. Marster's delivered his few lines so well that they were all pretty memorable.

I thought the Ki effects looked good, but some of the other effects were not really up to par, mostly anything that happened while they were at the Volcano. Although when the first Fulum is created the CG was actually quite good, but then after that, well, not so much. Although I don't really care about CG anyway, I thought they did a decent enough job with a small budget.

The fight scenes were ok, I feel they were highly unimaginative though. This is something I will say, I could have come up with better fight scenes. Hell, I could have done cooler stuff without wirework, but tis is life.

I can not comprehend how people think a sequel might be good, let alone with that same cast. These actors have proven not to be good enough to play their manga counterparts, not even James Marsters. Yes, I said it. Not even him. Don't come at me with the "but the script didn't allow them!" bull$hit. They're called ACTORS for a reason.

Well, they're actors, yes, not miracle makers...
But yeah, the script being terrible doesn't mean the actors can't be criticized as well, I guess...

This is your personal opinion only, not fact.

I think the actors did ok, with a better script and direction they could have been good. Do you understand how much the writing and directing really matter? Seems like you don't.

Yeah, I was under the impression that they got nothing from the dub. Also, I'm very curious of where this "Yamcha is a surfer in the dub" idea came from. Maybe Ocean group? Honestly, I've watched the dub many times and aside from Yamcha saying bro a couple of times in Z, I would have never pegged him as a surfer.
