If I may throw my two cents in here for the cast of the sequel...

how about Jack Black as Yajirobe

"With karate I'll kick your ass, here to Tienanmen Square! Oh yeah muthafucka, I'm gonna kick your fuckin' derrière, yeaheeaheah"

Yes. Make this happen. MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW.
Wow! This would certainly fit Yajorobies character! We should be in charge of the casting. Imagine Jack Black as... "The Bean Daddy..."
and the script writing too!!!!

Considering some of the fanfics I've read over the years, that might not be such a good idea.

He's a joke in the ring, and a joke in real life. End o' story.
Not really no.

DBE feels like--in my opinion--a bad fanfic. :( Placing people out-of-character and throwing characters who weren't originally from a high school setting into high school was a major no-no over at ff.net back in the day. Those types of fics used to get lampooned or parodied for kicks which is why it just boggles my mind that that type of story is what we ended up with.

If I was able to have one suggestion/wish/plea granted for the sequel's script, it would be for them to keep Goku in character. For the love of literature, please, please Mr or Ms Sequel-Script-Writer, please write Goku's character the way Mr. Toriyama writes him. That's all I really want. That's like, my baseline desire for this sequel. In character Goku; that's all I really need from it.

I can let ridiculous things like Mai shapeshifting, Surfer-Yamcha, and promethium orbs slide EASILY, IF I had gotten an in-character Goku from DBE, which I did not. :(

DBE is like a bad fanfic.
I mean we the fans would be more sincere to the franchise, like following the manga panel by panel as e.g. "sincity" did....

To most fans, in-character Goku equals "HAY VAGITUH BUTTSECKS?"

So, yeah, I stand by my original claim.

Hardcore fans should never be involved in anything official, for any series. TV, anime, books, whatever.

And why do you think that way? I can't see what's bad about having real fans involved in such projects. IMHO it's better having someone on board who knows the material to prevent a bastardization.

Because it becomes too personal, I suppose. What fans want doesn't always make a good product.

Well at least it seems to have taken in a lot more money the last few days (over $40m according to...wikipedia :? But I dunno where else to look for the statistics). It was only $30m the last time I checked. I'm gonna go see it again tomorrow, so that's another few dollars in bank :P

Yeah if the hardcore WATCHMEN fans could have had it their way that movie would have been 4 and half hours long. If Dragon Balls fans could have had it their way...who knows what could have happened.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.

If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

I just wish it was given an actually GOOD director and set of actors. Hell, it could have tossed "canonocity" to the side. They could have radically altered the course of events and combined two villains into one, like R'as al Ghul and Henri Ducard in Batman Begins. They could have radically redesigned some aspects of presentation. But if the spirit of the franchise and characters was kept and the movie was overall a fun one to watch, I'd be happy.

In all honesty, I think the chinese live action movie does FAR better at being entertaining as a film by itself and as an adaptation than this one ever did.

...What were we talking about again?

Oh yes. Perfect live action movie. I'd probably end up making a bad movie. Using my love of Sentai combined with my needlessly cornball humor, I'd create a Great Saiyaman film that all of 15 people would enjoy, and everyone else would go "What the fuck?"

Yeah...
A fan of the source material they're adapting could never bring anything successful to life...

I don't think it could be any worse than DBE.

I'd take fan input over whoever decided that having Goku try to open Chi-Chi's locker with his Ki was a good scene to put into the movie.

I am a fan, and I may've put a scene in like that.

I also don't mind Goku being changed, because I think original Goku is an asshole.

I swear, if anything has come out of Daizex, it's a newfound gay couple.

Now I am a homosexual all of sudden, I went from “whack-job” to “target” now I am “gay”. Yep, it is all in my mind.

Actually Zack Snyder is a hardcore fan, which is why the movie so closely resembled the comic, and the final cut of the movie is three hours and fourty minutes. He updated the costumes so they wouldn't look ridiculous, while for the most part still capturing the feel of the original costumes and looking similar. I don't think it's fair to compare Dragon Ball and Watchmen though. :P
