Sequel To Dragonball Kai A Possibility?

Post by freakofwar » Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:11 am

Hi there all. With Dragonball taking back the stage with Kai, The Movie and so forth. Could revamping the series in to Kai be an introduction to a new generation of fans and, possibly if it goes well, a brand new series after Kai. Perhaps they have an alternative agenda and pretend GT never happened, and carry on with a Z/Kai story (Sorry to all the GT fans by the way, it is just that it is my least favourite in the DB universe)

I hope not. GT was enjoyable, but a mess. If anything, get the original staff who worked with Dragon Ball that knew how much filler to throw in and how to make it good, if they're still alive.

I don't want them to make a new series. They'll probably mess it up again, like they did with GT.

I'd like them to make a new series even if it was like GT. Who cares if it's bad? It's more Dragon Ball! And GT wasn't that bad; I liked it despite the fact that it made little sense.

The problem with a new Dragon Ball series is that they'd never make what I'd want. They'd try and find a way to make even stronger villains, rinsing and repeating the formulas of the past Z and GT villains.

Still, I'd probably watch it anyway.

I don't know, only maybe if they will make re-edited version of GT and extend it, how they we're planned..... You know, Kai have now a new generation of fans, who are watching it each sunday on Fuji
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

Dragon Ball, not Dragon Ball Z. I'm not sure if they fired and hired some people in the transition to the new show, or if they all just decided to drop acid after the 23rd Strongest Under the Heavens Tournament.

Part of me wants them to stop making Dragon Ball shows, specials, etc. I kind of feel like I spent enough of my childhood on it and I was glad that I didn't have to worry about buying that other piece of merchandise, and the fact that I know pretty much everything that happened (IN THE ANIME). If they throw something else into it, I'll be that guy past 20 walking into a Best Buy to purchase something Dragon Ball related just so I could watch it for the first time. I don't want that. I can still love it, but it's time to move on. I have a closet full of DVDs and sometimes I like to whip them out and watch them, but for the most part, I liked having that closure that I had it all. Now I can't say the same.

Have you seen the Red Ribbon arc?, it's so plagued with filler it's unbearable.

Dragon Ball doesn't need anymore new material. It just gives FUNi more ways to milk the franchise and come up with more ways to mess up each time the series is (re)released.
GT is underrated and the International Channel will always be my favorite channel for foreign programming. I still miss it.

Well, I can add words to it all I want. But basically, my point IS made.

I can say, with just as much of a point as the person I quoted:

----

Toei is cashing in on Dragon Ball, too. That's what they do when they make anything for Dragon Ball. They generally do a good job of it and keep to the spirit of the series, so I generally don't mind. But they do screw up. They have bad filler sgments in the TV show, they have made movies that I don't like, and they are humans with the ability to either fuck up or just make something that a person can validly not enjoy.

----

My essentially two-word post conveyed that. But I'll do my best to word my opinions out from now on anyway.

Gohan lost in the forest is one of the better fillers, I think. It's a rare glimpse into the Son family life during times of peace, something which I always appreciate (Especially since the years between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are when the Son family life is at its healthiest; the early portions of the Buu Saga are nice in their own way, with the three remaining Son members relying on each other even more with Goku gone, but the whole having a family member dead thing is still a bummer, and while the ten years after Buu with the family whole again are okay, it's not even in the same hemisphere of peace and perfection that is post-Dragon Ball, pre-Dragon Ball Z). That's reason enough for me to value it. Of course, if you don't care about that, there's not much reason to like that scene. XD Bulma and the crab can go die in a fire, of course, and the Freeza battle should be cut down enough that it doesn't make the viewer contemplate suicide. The Freeza battle as a whole constitutes around 30 episodes. That's way too damn many.

As for filler... it actually started getting rather tedious during the 23rd Budokai. There's a lot of slow-motion pans showing the crowd's reaction in that one. Very sad that such a thing creeped into a show that was otherwise pure.

And while we're on the subject of Dragon Ball, I'll randomly throw in that I love the fourth variation of the ending. A lot of things about that ending kinda make me wish DBZ had never happened.

Honestly, I haven't even thought about such a thing. I'm still waiting to see the fight against Raditz.

Dude...Kai just started.

One of my friends said that they would make a new Dragon Ball series because of DB Evolution.

I smell a few porkie pies coming from your friend. How can they make a new series based on Evolution? Unless it's going to be a live action series based on Justin Chatwin etc. :? Now that's slightly worrying...

Don't get me wrong, Loved the movie (Want to see it again)... A series would just be a little distressing.

As for creating another series after Kai, I guess it's a possiblity that has not yet been ruled out. Toei are probably accessing how popular the new series is with ratings and sales; Then they may well decide to make a new series likely of Dragonball GT without the filler. (Although it would be a damn short new series...)
Who knows though, If this series really hits off as it seems to have done who knows what is around the corner? I doubt even Toei knows!
"Ok, use your instincts Kakarott. Right or Left? (Hmmm... I'd have to say... left.) Good. Then I'm going right!" (Vegeta to Goku as they try to find their way to free the others inside Buu - Episode: The Innards of Buu)

I agree.I was hoping at the end of kai they would announce a new series that made GT an alternate reality. Like someone comes from the future to the past and prevent the events of GT from happening. They shouldn't even bother with it if Toriyama doesn't create story for it. Or he could just create a new manga and a new show gets created off of it.

A completely new animated series with a different plot (and current music) would be welcomed following DB-Kai in my opinion. I tired of everyone going on about One Piece if no one can recognize Naruto I want Dragonball to take the throne once again.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.
