Yeah...
A fan of the source material they're adapting could never bring anything successful to life...
Having a Director who is a fan of the source =/= to having fans write it.

He wrote it, too. Along with two other fans dedicated to the source.

I am pretty sure people are referring to the whole fan community writing the movie, not a select few.

I think the point being that someone who's both a fan AND a talented/trained movie maker would be far better qualified to do it than someone who's "just a fan." They would know what to do and not do to strike a good balance between respect to the source and just being a good movie. Fans would just throw everything that they want in there and end up with a muddled mess.

How does a whole community write anything together? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

He said hardcore fans shouldn't be involved in any medium of adaption in any way. I gave an example why I disagree. You'd now like to clarify that it'd just be stupid to have a few hundred thousand fans have creative input on the project... yeah, that'd be a bad idea beyond something like opinion polling.
But the idea that adaptions shouldn't be helmed by fans or made with fans in mind is a bad excuse not to try.

Actually Zack Snyder is a hardcore fan, which is why the movie so closely resembled the comic, and the final cut of the movie is three hours and fourty minutes. He updated the costumes so they wouldn't look ridiculous, while for the most part still capturing the feel of the original costumes and looking similar. I don't think it's fair to compare Dragon Ball and Watchmen though. :P
Not to mention Watchmen takes place in a quasi-realistic world, thus making it much easier to adapt than Dragon Ball, which is fantasy to a T.

On the subject of fans...

"Yes, I have seen the New REBOOTED Enterprise… at any rate, I don’t like it. It is supposed to be NCC-1701, no bloody A,B,C,D or E! and it sure does not look like the 1701 I grew up with!

I have seen what was purported to be the final design of the New Enterprise, and I don’t like the changes. Period." -James Cowley, a fan who's produced his own Star Trek series

If that were the case, then it would take a few hours for the credits to list all the writers.

Too many DBZ fans.

Of course! Freeza's mother ship is the Star trek enterprise!

As for a whole community writing things together, I can see how it would partially work; However as the old saying goes... "Too many chefs spoil the food." - Or something like that...

I guess everybody has a different opinion, and what some may deem acceptable and humorous others may find a waste of time. Even something like shooting a scene. In one persons opinion it could be just right, In anothers it should be shot from a different angle. There would still need to be somebody who is solely in charge of the production and who has the final say. With anything there will always be people who are unhappy with the result. (Some people are just no-good grumpy old codgers.)

Then those bleeps in the "OVER 9000" video would really make sense.
No, Stone Clod seems too overpowering. He seems like he'll try to steal the show(Figure Of Speech). Goldberg works. He seems like more of a dumb buff guy.
How about Hulk Hogan playing Mr. Satan? I can see that working if he changed his hair a little.
Uh, Randy Savage? :D

Sam Raimi is a fan of the older Spider-Man characters, but not of Venom, so his fandom clearly went a long way.

A long way to making bad Spider-Man films, maybe.

Good effects, sure. Quite excellent effects. But everything else is bullshit. From the minor fanwank quibbles like organic web shooters to real problems like completely missing the point of characters and adapting a scene just to rob it of its significance.

And as everyone knows, that third film was a train wreck...

EXCEPT the "emo" scene. That part I liked.

Well in the end DBE will have made a little success. Box Office Mojo had the budget wrong by $10 million so now it's made $42 million worldwide. By next weekend it will probably surpass its budget. Also DVD sales and other merchandise will have made this movie a small success. I'm sure the DVDs will sell a fair amount to.
Aka gtadbzman.

I am happy to hear that, now I can see the one I have been waiting on. The one and only live action Vegeta, the best part about it is that he will be in the (hopefully) better quality movie. :D

I just don't understand it. The movie does bad and it gets a sequel. It's like I woke up one morning and the world turned upside down... :?
