Moments you liked/tolerated your least fave. characters?

Were there ever some moments in the series in which characters you otherwise dispise or dislike, had a moment that actually made you like or tolerate them more? (for examples: Rocketman - Gohan? Saiyan-Professor - Kakkarot and Gohan?)

Ah, good question. I'm especially interested in the responses of those you called out, emphatic as they are in their dislike.

... it's hard for me to respond to this question, though, because I don't actually dislike any of Toriyama's characters. I'm not even indifferent. I like them all.

Oh, wait... come to think, I kind of dislike Bacterian. Anyone that coughs up loogies can go straight to Hell, those things are disgusting. In which case I'll say whenever he gets revived in the Piccolo Daimao arc, because his response is just as touching as that of everyone else that gets revived. I really like that scene, the "Yay we're not dead" reactions from people around the world.

I hate Teen Gohan. I like Gohan as a kid, and I like him as an adult. But Teen Gohan (the age he was when he fought Cell) is a bitch.

That being said. There was only one time that I thought he was a bad ass. And that was in Bojack Unbound. When two of Bojacks henchmen started charging at him, he KICKED them in half... Let me repeat that... Motherfucking kicked. them. in. half. That's the only time I stopped hating on him for a split second.
Even though he still needed daddy to break the laws of the universe to help him do it.

Anyhoo, I figure Vegeta has two of these moments. His dying words, and that AWESOME scene where he reveals his newly acquired Super Saiyan transformation.

You can blame the video games for that shit.

I never really cared for Vegeta until he began caring for people other than himself, particularly when he exploded in anger over Cell killing Trunks during the Cell Games, and then the father-son moment he shared with Trunks as a child during the Buu Saga. Great stuff.

I honestly don't hate any Z characters, to me it's always had a fantastic cast of characters who all have their shining moments despite there being a general bias the series has toward Goku, if you get my meaning.

I absolutely can not stand Mr. Satan. He is selfish, self aggrandizing, and mostly useless.

But the two times he puts that aside and helps the heroes, I forgive him for just those moments. When he helps by tossing Number Sixteen's head at Gohan, which helps turn the tide, I like him better. When he helps raise the genki for the Genki Dama, I like him better. Otherwise he annoys the hell out of me.

I never knew this. That means Cell got his ass whopped by a 9 year old kid. Mind=Blown.

Anyways I've always hated 17 and 18 and the only time I liked them was when they were getting beat up. Piccolo vs 17 fight and when Trunks went back and killed them. Hope that counts TC.

Yeah, back in the day I used to hate Vegeta with a fiery passion. Now I just like making fun of him for being a total ass.

So a time when I thought he was alright? I thought it was pretty cool of him to buy Gokuh some time for the Genki Dama by fighting Kid Buu, not to mention the speech he made to the people of Earth asking for their help. It was around this time that he finally admitted that Gokuh was the best too, so I thought that took some major balls. Yup, I'd say by the end of the series Vegeta was almost a likable guy.

I liked Freeza the most when he was reduced to a mere shell of a galactic tyrant. Well, two haves a shell, thanks to Trunks.

Yeah... Freeza sucks. I guess I tolerated him the most in GT. I guess teaming up with a superior villain made him look better in my eyes.

I usually say Pan in GT. But in second place for me would have to be Mr.Satan during the Cell Games. I have no problem with him during the Buu era. I like him in GT. But he drove me crazy during the Goku vs Cell fight because his pointless scenes kept interrupting it, and he just bored me to tears.

Really, the only time I felt something like this was for Mr Satan when he grabbed Vegeta out of the path of the final Genki-Dama. It was just such a noble, selfless (not to mention dangerous) thing for him to do, and for a guy who he had previously just considered one o' those gang o' super-freaks. My respect points for him increased by 367 points. And his heart grew three sizes that day. Not unlike the Ginch. Who happened to steal Christmas. But I digress.

Can't say I have any beef with ol' Mark. He gave the world Videl. That absolves him of any and all hatred from me.

...Although, he was quite annoying in the Cell Arc.

Oh. Um...Okay. I've been thinking about it for a few minutes now and the only thing I can come up with is one little moment. In that scene right after the Baby saga when Trunks and Giru got out of the car and Pan was glad to see them. She was kinda nice there.

I mean, I didn't like Mr Satan, but that was only really until they made him a real character.

Since I've been called out in the OP, I better respond.

There are actually two places where I like Gohan - the Future Gohan, and him in the Saiyaman through Babidi arcs.

That's because, for all my thunder, I don't hate Gohan as a character. What I hate are two things that are tied closely to Gohan:

1. Him getting bullshit powerups to justify his being shoved in our faces as the hero, and

2. After getting those powerups, being a whiny fuck, but still getting hailed as SUCCESSOR TO GOKU YAYS

Neither of these occur in the future timeline, so he's alright there.

And in the Saiyaman saga, he's effectively retired. That's cool, let the boy do something he wants to do. If the whole Buu thing never happened and the last bit of the series was just Adventures of Teenage Gohan, I'd like it better than what we got.

It's the complete and utter bullshit of the Cell Games and the Mystic powerup I hate with a passion, not Gohan himself.
