Error on Season 2 box set...

Post by GroundZero0215 » Sat Apr 18, 2009 12:21 am

I'm new to the forum, and have a question regarding something that is probably old news to this place, but I'll give it a shot anyway. After months of deliberation, I purchased the first 2 season sets. In just about all of the episodes on season 2, the audio for Head-Cha-La is not synced up properly with the animation. Has anyone else seen, or heard of this problem? Was it possible I got a newer release of the set? Thanks for your responses in advance.

I noticed it with season 4. So it started with season 2?

I can say that from volume 2 on up I've had the same issue. I believe starting with season 4 there was a horrible dip in audio quality for the opening only. It's highly annoying.

Yeah, from season 2 forward the audio is slightly delayed for the opening sequence. Also, the audio is pretty bad for Cha-La starting with season 5. I don't know if there's any problems with We Gotta Power though. Hopefully not, but this is FUNi after all.
GT is underrated and the International Channel will always be my favorite channel for foreign programming. I still miss it.

Yeah, it's very annoying when you know exactly how the opening should be, and then you see that the music and animation aren't lined up correctly. At least they have all the voice acting synced up!

I am kinda disappointed with the way Funimation handled the DBZ Ultimate Uncut singles and Season box set.

1. Way too oversaturated.
2. Singles have spanish audio but not on Remastered!
3. Vegeta II saga and Remastered both have English translation subtitle for Japanese but not for English! Sucks, man.
4. Singles don't have HD. Remastered do. Not to mention they discontinued releasing rest of 40 episode on 4:3 ratio.
5. Remastered dont have DBZ imported items included.
6. They didn't selectively cropped the footage. They just set in dead-on screen.
7. They handled Remastered GT better than DBZ! What the heck?!
8. "The way it was meant to be seen." They lied to us.

Funimation totally ripped us off. I feel sorry for them who have DBZ singles of Ultimate Uncut Edition but never got rest of 40 episodes. They had to buy Season 1 again. Jerk.

regarding your 4th point, I'm pretty sure that you can have the English translation subtitles on the screen with the English Dub, to compare script accuracy...I noticed that you can do this with the remastered sets, but I'll have to check again...it's very useful if you want to see how inaccurate the English dialogue is

Now, is this FUNimation's error? Or that's how was the audio of the episodes originally? Like the issue of the EyeCatches of early GT

Not sure...Season One didn't seem to have the problem, and nor does the double feature with the TV specials. Knowing their track record, it's very easy to place the blame on FUNimation. I'm pretty sure that on the original releases for the episodes, the audio was synced properly with the animation. So this just may have been laziness on their part with the remastered sets.

I have all Remastered Season sets except 9th. Trust me, there is no subtitle for English at all. Only for Japanese. Same with Vegeta II saga.

As I recall with the older DVDs, you can play the english audio and use the subtitle button to manually add subtitles to the dub version.

You should be able to do this with these, as well, considering the nature of how DVDs work.

As far as the opening music, I haven't noticed off-hand if the openers are off. I usually skip through them, but I have noticed that on the later releases the sound quality is awful and the volume is substantially lower than the voice and bgm tracks.

sorry about that...I may have misread your point...are you talking about the subtitles for the english dub itself?

I have determined that Funimation has a terrible quality assurance team. If they didn't I doubt we would have had dropped out lines and crappy sound quality.

The pre-Ultimate Uncut Edition has English subtitle for English Dub and early UUE but UUE in Vegeta II saga does not.

I understand your point now...I guess they figured that most people who can understand English, don't want to see the actual words on the screen at the same time haha...although, it is useful to have them, in the event something is wrong with your ability to hear the audio clearly

Are you positive? I swear I've watched them before and realized that I had the wrong subtitles on. I recall they took the "dubtitles" out of the GT season sets, and that stuck out in my mind because the Z sets had them.

None of FUNi's new releases contain dubtitles. FUNi did away with them three years ago.
