Chi-Chi's Personality In The Majin Boo Saga
Ever since the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, Chi-Chi has always been against Son Gohan fighting, and is annoyed at Son Goku for making him fight and such.
But later in the Majin Boo Saga, Son Goten mentions that he has been sparring with Chi-Chi. There's a scene which follows, which is only featured in the anime. Gohan thinks about how Chi-Chi has always had a harsh attitude towards him fighting, and that maybe Goku's death is the reason that her attitude has changed about her sons fighting.
This certainly seems to be the case, as I, for one, notice Chi-Chi's changed personality in the Majin Boo Saga. She no longer objects to Gohan's training for the tournament (although this was mainly because of the prize Zeni award), nor does she have any objections to Goten training to battle Majin Boo and entering the Tenkaichi Budokais at the beginning of the Majin Boo Saga and the end of Z. It seems that now, she realizes that fighting to protect the Earth are more important than studies. Being without a husband who has died twice for 7 years can affect someone.

I always thought her attitude change from Gohan to Goten was strange. As someone who was so focused on Gohan's studies, it seems that she gives up on Goten a little bit. My thoughts are that, maybe, we just didn't see her being strict to Goten.
Another point which was touched on was Goten being allowed to train in the R.O.S.A.T. Chi Chi did allow Gohan to go to Namek. So you could argue there was just less emphasis put on Chi Chi's parenting rather than anything else.

But Gohan had to yell at Chi-Chi to convince her to let him go to Namek.ssjcj wrote:I always thought her attitude change from Gohan to Goten was strange. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

She always wanted Gohan to be a scholar. By the Buu saga he'd been working on that without fail for 7 years. I guess she was able to cut him some slack, especially with the zeni prize and all.
She was never as strict with Goten. Let me tell you, as an older sibling myself, that this is quite realistic. Parents never seem to be as strict with their second child as they were with their first.

Chichi isn't against Gohan and Goten learning the basics, just not at the age of 4 and letting fighting be the only thing they think about. Meanwhile I think the fact that Goten being a Goku clone helped her realize that constant studying was not the right lifestyle for him, a fact she may have accepted even more easily with Goku being dead.
