Like I said: I'm sure they're saying that.
Think about it like this though. Dragon Ball and Cowboy Bebop are aimed at two different audiences. Dragon Ball is a childrens show with a fun story and not a terrible lot of depth. Cowboy Bebop is an older-teen/adult cartoon, with lots of depth and complexities. They're both humerous and fun and many anime fans love both, but seeing as how Cowboy Bebop has a different target audience, its safe to assume that they're holding it to higher standards than Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball Evolution is a childrens movie. Cowboy Bebop will most likely be rated PG13 or R.

Not that "higher standards" would really mean much, here...

While I'm the first to jump on the "lawl u moron iz 4 kidz" bandwagon, in Bebop's case I'll agree with him. Depth and complexities might be arguable (I think it's got a healthy amount of depth, but it's not something like Texhnolyze), but it's definitely not aimed at kids. Only a handful of episodes were shown on TV Tokyo before it was moved to WOWOW because of the depictions of violence in the series. Then over here you have the Adult Swim timeslot and the movie being rated R.

Agreed about the latter, it was the former that bothered me. I guess it's "complex" compared to Dragon Ball, but...

And the initial run was heavily edited, too.

83.4% drop for DBE this weekend, grossing $280,000, bringing the domestic total up to $8.7 million.

That's exactly what I meant. Compared to Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bebop does have depth. Each character is well developed, as the series progresses you find out more about their past and their motives. There is a bit of that in Dragon Ball but it all takes a back-seat to the action and potty humor.

Just that caring even less about Cowboy Bebop than Fox apparently cared about Dragon Ball would be quite the achievement...

EDIT: Wait. Fox is making that one too? I somehow assumed they'd give us a break...
Ah, well. It was probably going to suck anyway.

Keanu Reeves as Spike. 'Nuff said.

What are you sayin? Cause I've heard that as a positive thing and negative.

Personally, I think Keanu can pull off the whole distance-in-personal-relationships thing, but I'm not so sure about the goofy-but-smart.

I'm sure Mr. Reeves will make a fine Spike. I'm looking forward to the Bebop movies just as much as I did with DBE.

I meant it as a negative. Having seen many, many movies with Keanu I can't see him pulling off a good Spike Spiegel. His acting range is very limited, whereas the character has many facets. Kōichi Yamadera and Steven Blum both did excellent jobs of showing this in their portrayals, but I don't see Keanu being able to do so. And that's even if they did a decent script.

Err, I don't think it'll be a plural since Keanu already said the movie will end where the series did. Honestly though, I wonder, what does it take for you not to be optimistic about a film?

He's also 27. Now, I really wouldn't mind looking like Reeves when I'm 44, but still...

Oopsie, typo. My bad.

Er, let's see... either the source material being bad to begin with (i.e. Twilight), or the name "Uwe Boll" attached to it, for starters.

I wonder if they'll be able to fit in the humor with all the drama that took place at the end of the series. I wonder who's gonna play Jet. Or Fay. Or Ed. I can't wait to see Spike's Lupin shoes in live action.

Is DB:E showing in any theater close to you guys anymore?

After 2 weeks, I can't find a showing within 10 miles from my location.

It's playing in the value theaters in my area, which usually play films well after the movies have left other theaters. Sometimes, a movie has been on DVD and in these theaters at the same time.

I learned through the chat that its no longer at my local theater.

A part of me wants to see them redeem themselves (in my opinion) in a sequel where I'd get to see a respectfully done Goku, but another part is relieved that if there is no sequel, I won't have to worry about how they'll explain Vegeta. (Because just watch them butcher his backstory AND pick some guy who's 7 feet tall to portray him. >_O )

I'm vaguely curious as to where these actors next set of roles will be. (Will they still act in movies? Will some gets shuffled off to TV? Will some of them have a hard time getting roles and disappear altogether ala that one guy from Super Mario Bros?)

I have to give them a small amount of props for starting this during DB instead of Z though (and for using "Son", "Oozaru", and the names of the individual balls) because in all other cases its almost always Z first.
On hiatus.

Chatwin has starred in a few other movies, so I'd expect to see him in a few more movies. Chung is currently starring in a TV series on ABC Family (I think?) and I've only ever seen Emmy Rossum in some made-for-TV ice skating movie. Hope that helps.

Jamie Chung was recently cast in Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch" for next year.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
